There was little change from last week especially with only 1 new movie opening. That movie, “I, Frankenstein”, bombed. Averaging just $3,000 per theater and with bad reviews, you can read ours here. With “Ride Along” maintaining it’s success I expect we will hear about Another Ride Along or something like that soon enough. Ice Cube loves to do sequels. “Frozen” is also still chugging along and taking over the internet, and has a sing-a-long version coming out soon. I think it will continue to gobble up money for a few more weeks.
- Ride Along: $21.1 million and a total gross over $75 million.
- Lone Survivor: $12.6 million and a total gross of over $93 million, on pace to surpass “Zero Dark Thirty.”
- The Nut Job: $12.3 million, doing OK with a 37% drop and totaling $40 gross after 2 weeks.
- Frozen: $9 million, starting to slide out of theaters but close to $350 million domestic gross. Juggernaut.
- Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit: $8.8 million with a 43% drop from last week. Not a good sign.
2 new films are hitting wide release this coming weekend. “Labor Day”, a drama starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, and “That Awkward Moment”, a rom-com starring Zac Efron. Not sure how either will do but Efron’s movie definitely has the stronger marketing.
