We all know that “Flash Gordon” inspired generations of storytellers, most notably George Lucas, who used that inspiration as fuel to create “Star Wars.”
But that’s not the only person who found inspiration there. Robb Pratt, an animator for Disney who worked on films like “Atlantis: The Lost Empire,” “Hercules,” “Tarzan,” and “Pocahontas,” as an animator was inspired by “Flash Gordon.” And he’s given us this brief glimpse into what it would look like if he animated it by hand.
If I were a movie studio that had the rights to “Flash Gordon,” I’d be hiring Pratt immediately to produce an animated feature. I’d love to see him take on the “John Carter” series as well.
3D animation is all well and good, but there is just something unmatched in the charm and brilliance of hand-drawn animation.
