It’s Thanksgiving and this is probably overdone and stereotypical, but I’m doing it anyway. As geeks, we have lots to be thankful for this year and I’m going to list my top five.
5. Iron Man 2 – It has Scarlett in skin tight leather. Isn’t that reason enough? Maybe it is just an overly long commercial for the Avengers movie. So what? That just means the Avengers will be even more awesome. Thank you Marvel Studios.
4. Scott Pilgrim – Pick your media. The comic ended this year. The movie released (but you didn’t pay to see it). The blu-ray is also out. It’s even available as a River City Ransom ripoff on PSN or XBox Arcade (with recent DLC to include playable Knives Chau). Oh yeah, and it’s AWESOME! Thank you Bryan Lee O’Malley and Edgar Wright.
3. Fallout: New Vegas – Did I hate the glitches and constant freezing? Yes. Did I still sink over 70 hours into the game and smile the whole time? Yes. It may not be the best in the Fallout series, but it’s not the worst. And anything Fallout is always welcome. Oh yeah, three words: Grenade Machine Gun! Thank you Bethesda and Obsidian.
2. The Walking Dead – Sure there’s the comic. But I mean AMC’s incredible series. This is seriously the best thing on TV right now. I have my small gripes with it, but I haven’t been this drawn to a television show in years. Thank you Robert Kirkman and Frank Darabont.
1. Star Wars Celebration V – There’s way too much to say about this to even express in a single post. In fact, it took four posts just to tell of my own trip to Orlando. Those posts, despite raising some ire among a large group of fans, directly led to me becoming a contributing ‘bot here on Big Shiny Robot! Even without that, being in Orlando for this party was amazing. We almost didn’t make the trip despite having been to the previous four. I’m so glad we decided to do it. I don’t see myself backing out of any future Celebrations. They are just too fun to ignore. Thank you George Lucas and the city of Orlando.
Special mention: Thank you to all the founders and contributors of Big Shiny Robot! I appreciate the opportunity to write here and I’m grateful for everyone else that makes this site succesful.
