AMC announced earlier in the week that they would be renewing The Walking Dead.
“Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s President. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make The Walking Dead a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”
But I’m missing a part of this. If it’s breaking viewership records around the world, why did they have to cut the budget and fire the most creative mind behind it, Frank Darabont?
It still doesn’t add up. Darabont developed the show as a labor of love and was let go for reasons still unknown. And the budgets have been cut.
Is this bad news for us? We still don’t know, since we’re still watching Darabont era episodes. If after a few more episodes the show starts to turn south, we’ll know that renewing for a third season might have been premature.
In any case, what I’ve seen so far this season has been dynamite and we’ll be back to reviewing individual episodes again. And for those who don’t know, Brewvies Cinema Pub (our Big Shiny Base in Salt Lake City) has been showing the episodes on the big screen every Sunday night and that’s where you can find most of us. For the Halloween episode (10/30) I would get there early though, since The Geek Show Podcast will be screening Creepshow at 5, with a costume contest after.
We want to see you there!
