The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the “Ghostbusters” are both celebrating 30 years of pop culture domination and what better way to celebrate than a joint birthday party within the pages of IDW comics.
In this crossover story, the turtles are transported to an alternate dimension by way of a faulty invention and find themselves in a New York similar to the one they know. But if “Sliders” taught us anything it’s that when you jump dimensions, there is always at least one major change and this time it’s a rampant ghost problem plaguing the city. The turtles are hosted by the Ghostbusters (after they mistakenly try to suck them into a ghost trap, probably) and they team up to tackle the task at hand. Things get complicated when they discover that the turtles didn’t make the jump on their own.
Cue tense emotional music.
This team up seems a match a long time coming, written by Tom Waltz and Eric Burnham, both of which have experience on both franchises.
“A couple of years ago, Tom Waltz and I chatted like the fans we are about how insanely fun this crossover would be if we ever got the chance to write it,” said Burnham, and now that dream is finally coming true.
Sometimes a crossover or mashup feels forced or unnatural, not so with the turtles and busters… Ghostbusturtles? I’m still working on it. Both franchises exist in New York and have a certain goofy yet series flavor that will mesh will together.
The four issue series will start in October, shell up and don’t cross the streams.
