COMIC OF THE WEEK: Star Trek / Legion of Superheroes #1

It’s Wednesday– the best day of the week for geeks because that means it’s new comic books day!  And while we’re sure you’re picking up the climactic end of Fear Itself, Batman #2, Justice League #2, a new Fables, Wolverine, and B.P.R.D., and some others, I wanted to point out something you might otherwise overlook.

IDW is your home for Star Trek comics (as well as some other beloved properties– Ghostbusters, for example– which you should be checking out) and this week brings us an amazing crossover of Star Trek vs The Legion of Superheroes. One of the main reasons I’m recommending this is it’s scripted by Chris Roberson, who has been doing amazing work on I Zombie with Mike Allred and I think did a fantastic job of trying to save Superman from the hole JMS put him in with the Grounded storyline, not to mention his work on Fables and various Fables spin-offs.

Plus, this will is worth checking out just to see what they’re doing. Somehow, members of the Legion of Superheroes have transported back in time to the 23rd century– but it is a 23rd century different from the one they expected and Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the crew of the Enterprise are used to.  Time Travel!! Yay!

Plus, this is interesting to see DC allowing their characters to roam around another comic book universe. I don’t think we’re likely to ever see a “Hulk vs Superman” or “Iron Man vs Batman” but maybe that means DC would be willing to lend some of their other characters to IDW comics.  Ghostbusters meet Deadman or they track down The Gentleman Ghost? Transformers or GI Joe meet. . . whatever.  The possibilities are great.  So let’s support this while we can.

This will be part one of a 6 part series, so check it out today when picking up your comics and maybe add this series to your hold/pull.

So, until next week, there’s your comic recommendation for this week. I’ll see you next time.
