Marvel has officially announced the casting of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in their upcoming Netflix Series of Daredevil. Charlie might best be known to genre fans for his lead role as Tristan Thorne in the big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. Not to be confused with Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories. Though it would be pretty funny if he played Matt Murdock as Woody Allen.
This comes on the heels of the announcement that Drew Goddard would not be the official show runner on the series.
In the official press release from Marvel:
Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Stardust,” Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series.
Always the important thing to keep in mind when discussing Marvel properties for Film and Television is that they are two separate Entities, though there is some cross over. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is run by the imposing and regal Kevin Feige, while Marvel TV is run by Jeph Loeb of Heroes fame. They might share a common continuity, but the resources, vision and finances behind each are quite different.
