“Calvin & Hobbes” remains one of the most beloved comic series of all times, and my personal favorite to date. The shenanigans of young Calvin and his imaginary best friend, stuffed-tiger, Hobbes were some of the most well drawn, written and engaging stories ever to grace the pages of a newspaper. When Watterson announced his retirement well over a decade ago, fans were distraught at not being able to live the new adventures of their favorite characters, and the reclusive writer has never been heard from since.
Until now.
Over at Stephen Pastis’ blog (the writer of “Pearls Before Swine”), he recounts a tale of how he was able to get in touch with Watterson and convince him to work together on a short run of “Pearls Before Swine” strips that were recently published. The funny thing is, if you’re a fan of that comic, you probably already read the ones Watterson penned as part of the deal was that no one could announce who had really worked on them until after all three comics had been published.

Below, you’ll find the three comics, and with the advance knowledge of who wrote and penned them, you can easily see Watterson’s influence. Sure it’s not new “Calvin & Hobbes”, but it’s still really cool and just makes me wish for Watterson to start writing again.
