The Eisner award winning team of Brian K. Vaughan, Marcos Martin & Munsta Vicente are back with a new digital only story on panelsyndicate.com. The trio’s award winning work “The Private Eye” began on Panel Syndicate and was a critical darling. It continued to be a digital only work through the completion of the comic and never lost steam along the way. The site also added another storyteller in Albert Monteys and then went quiet for a few months. On the eve of the physical release of “The Private Eye” in a hardcover collection through Image Comics, the creative team behind “The Private Eye” has announced a new 5 issue series called “Barrier”.
“Barrier” is a dramatic story with illegal immigration as the backdrop. There’s violence and language barriers as well as fantastic art and coloring by both Marcos and Munsta. As with every issue purchased from panelsyndicate.com, the creative team allows everyone to “pay what you want” for their comic books. Brian K. Vaughan has been a creative power-house in this era of creator-owned stories with “Saga”, “Paper Girls”, and “We Stand On Guard”, but he’s not alone when it comes to traditional publishing. He and his compañeros are taking a large risk by allowing their work to potentially sell for nothing.
I encourage everyone who loves stories to give “Barrier” #1 a read. I also encourage everyone who loves “Barrier” #1 to reward the creative team and follow them on Twitter @PanelSyndicate to let them know you can’t wait for issue #2. “Barrier” #1 is available now for download in .pdf, .cbr, & .cbz formats at panelsyndicate.com. “The Private Eye” and “Universe!” are also available for download at Panel Syndicate but the special edition hard cover published by Image Comics will be in comic book shops every where tomorrow.
