The image you see above was passed onto me earlier this morning. It came from the sharing site, ow.ly. At first I assumed this was a really killer custom LEGO kit from the community. Upon further inspection, I really think this is an official LEGO kit. I think what stands out most are the custom pieces that LEGO would have created specifically for this set. The turtle’s heads, the skateboard, the large furry mutant yet to be revealed on the tv series. I think the biggest clue is Mike’s new weapon from the new cartoon.
To try and verify wether or not these were legit, I stumbled upon a story on RRROtoku. The French LEGO fan site Hoth Bricks reported earlier this month that a TMNT line would be released to coincide with the new cartoon on Nickelodeon. Here is what the French site had to so, translated, of course:
A highly reliable source tells me that LEGO will offer products based on the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) license with an official launch date announced for January 2013. No details on the contents of this range for now, but we can assume that the line will be based on the animated series that launches on September 29th on the American channel Nickelodeon.
The NYCC is also going on right now, and it is very likely it was announced there. Just when I thought I was done buying LEGO kits…
