Actually, to be more precise, the TV series is based on the 3 books that Del Toro wrote with Chuck Hogan after pitching it as a TV series unsuccessfully.
I have read approximately 2.125 of the three books in totality. The first one is great, but the second and third get a big bogged down in melodrama. Having said that, the version of the Vampires that del Toro has created here are pretty awesome, in a terrifying way. Kinda take the Uber-Vamps from “Blade 2” and remove all of the humanity, and then you get kind of an idea on how scary these things can be.
This extended trailer comes across as pretty faithful to the opening of the first book. And really, any serial monster television is welcome to help us get the droopy, lethargic taste of “Walking Dead” out of our mouths.
“The Strain” premiers on the FX Network on July 13.
