@Starwarsactionnews tweeted some interesting information from the C2E2 convention earlier this week during a Star Wars book panel.
Star Wars Action News is a podcast about Star Wars collecting, so be sure to check it out!
The first bit of news is: 20th Anniversary of Heir to the Empire to be annotated and have a new Zahn short story. No surprise there, as StarWars.com mentioned that some time ago. And how surprising that Zahn will be writing a short story about Thrawn! OMG! Seriously, does the guy write about any other characters? (excluding Mara and Talon Karrde). YAWN.
James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis Novel is done and will be out in the next year!! This novel was scheduled to be released years ago, according to Wookieepedia, but it was decided at the time not to delve into Palpatine’s back story. Looks like they’ve changed their minds now. This one could be pretty interesting.
Making of ROTJ by J W Rinzler officially announced! Well, after writing The Making of Star Wars and The Making of the Empire Strikes Back, it only follows that Return of the Jedi would be next. I haven’t read any of these books, but they look stunning when I’ve browsed through them at the bookstore. Maybe I’ll be them as a set when the third one is released.
Original short stories back in Insider. Next will be “First Blood” by Christie Golden then “Buyer’s Market” by Zahn featuring Lando!! Ahh, so the great and powerful Zahn CAN write about someone other than Thrawn. Maybe after 20 years he’s learned to diversify his writing just a bit.
Phantom Menace and Shadowhunter paperbacks to be reissues and each have a new James Luceno short story starting Darth Maul I can’t work up any energy to care about this. I think I read Shadow Hunter, but I’m not a Maul fan. However, this is probably thrilling if you are a fan of the character.
Aaron Allston’s new Wraith Squadron novel next summer! Again, could be interesting.
“Unfortunately Clone Wars TV series is making glitches in the canon”–Del Rey rep at panel understating it majorly This comment is for those who are sticklers about canon and the EU to fight over. I’m not getting involved in that. I’m of the opinion that it’s Lucas’ world, and he can do whatever he likes to it (except anything with Jar Jar Binks). We as fans just have to choose to continue supporting his vision or not.
“Big things coming after Fate of the Jedi” Del Rey when asked if LotF will bridge to Legacy comics. “Conversations have been had” Feel free to speculate on whatever this means. Sounds like a tease for future projects.
So, there you have it. Frankly, it doesn’t sound like there is anything earth-shattering on the horizon. More of the same old stuff, but if you’re really into the EU, then this may be just the thing to make your day.
