As with everything in life there just never seems to be enough time to do everything we would like to. Between new tv shows, movies, comic books, and video games; sitting down and reading a book normally takes a backseat. I however, love to read and try and find time to read just for a few minutes each day. Patrick Rothfuss’s “The Name of The Wind Day One” was a book that made everything take a backseat.
This is the first book in “The Kingkiller Chronicles” trilogy and it is simply amazing. I won’t spoil anything in this review, but I will say that this book went above and beyond all my expectations. The plot is simple, it is a first person narrative of the worlds greatest magician Kvothe. He is telling his story to a scribe and says that it will take him three days to do it properly. Each book is a day and the story is so compelling that you won’t be able to put it down.
The characters are real and I found myself caring about the things they cared about. The action is very convicting and Rothfuss does an amazing job of writing action scenes that put you right in the middle of the story. The magic is consistent and makes sense when explained.
Another reason to pick this up is the price. Amazon has it for just $8.09 in paperback. I read it on my iPad and other than a few spacing errors didn’t notice a difference.
If you are someone who loves to read and are looking for a new book I highly recommend picking this one up. The good news is that when you finish the first book you can jump straight into book two with the third book probably coming out in 2014.
