Ready for some Sailor Moon? I know I am, and the debut of “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal” is very close now. The cast of the new anime was announced at the Niconico Chōkaigi 3 convention, held this past weekend in Japan.
Kotono Mitsuishi will be Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon. She is returning to the role, as she voiced Sailor Moon in the original anime. A familiar voice in the lead role seems like a good choice, but thus far she’s the only actor from the original series set to return. No information has been released about who will be cast as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask, Luna, Artemis, or Queen Beryl.
The Sailor Scouts are:
Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars
Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus
I’m sadly not familiar with any of their previous projects, but I’ve linked each to their IMDB page if you want more information.
The looks of the characters are a bit different in the new series. The eyes in particular seem to more closely resemble creator Naoko Takeuchi’s manga artwork than the original series did. I think the scouts look great, and if it’s any hint of what’s to come, I think the animation will look incredible.
I hope that in the near future we’ll be able to view a trailer or get a better idea of what to expect, but for now information is still very limited. It’s only a little over two months away, though! The wait is almost over.
“Sailor Moon” will air the first and third Saturday each month, beginning July 5. Actual time will differ based on your time zone, but it will stream worldwide via niconico.
Additional information can be found on the official site.
