The new “Sailor Moon” anime is now scheduled to premiere July 2014!
The popularity of Naoko Takeuchi’s manga-turned-anime probably has not waned since 1992, when the manga first appeared. And to celebrate that anniversary, a new series based on the adventures of Tsukino Usagi was announced in July 2012. But the premiere date kept changing, and I doubt I was the only one about to give up hope of ever seeing the Moon Princess and her loyal companions ever again.
Now, two years later, will our patience finally be rewarded? I certainly hope so, because I love “Sailor Moon.”
The news comes by way of the anime’s official site, (thank you Google translate!) which also credits Toei Animation with animation production and Momoiro Clover Z with the show’s theme song. Toei Animation is not a new name to me—the company animated the original series, and I wonder if that means the look of the show will be similar in style to its predecessor. But I’ve never heard of Momoiro Clover Z, so a quick google search revealed the video below, where the group of five girls (which is rather appropriate, since there are five Inner Senshi) sing the “Sailor Moon” theme song “Moonlight Densetsu.”
So, perhaps that gives us an idea of what to expect.
But what else do we know? Not much. The series will be shown on niconico, and it will stream simultaneously worldwide. That’s pretty exciting! We also know that the new anime is less a remake and more a reimagining of the manga..
If the manga is followed more closely, will that mean no Doom Tree or Alan and Ann? If I recall correctly, that storyline was never in the manga but it was part of the anime series. I only saw the Dic dubbed version of that arc, so I’m not sure how it differed from the original Japanese version, but does Alan’s flute music still play in your head sometimes? Because I find myself humming it on occasion. I hope I’m not the only one.
I know I’m not the only one excited about this new series. What do you want to see in the show? What are your expectations? And can anything live up to the original?
