This is the new trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” It premiered tonight at the halftime show for Monday Night Football.
The world watched and we all cried.
I’m struck by just how emotional this trailer is. It’s sad. There’s a gravitas to it, a forlorn quality. It seems as though everything the Rebellion fought so hard to achieve never quite materialized. The galaxy is in turmoil and the Jedi, who I thought would have been a major force in this timeline, are merely legends no one believes.
There are a thousand questions raised by this trailer, which makes it the perfect trailer. I have no idea what this film is really about still. I know that the Knights of Ren are bad. I know the Rebellion is desperate. I think the climax might be them attacking Starkiller base. Luke is lost.
Why?
I have no idea.
And what better way to sell us on the danger and reality than to have Han Solo, the biggest skeptic in the galaxy, tell us the story?
I have a hundred crazy theories. But I don’t want to give them away here. You can listen to reaction on the next two episodes of The Full of Sith podcast.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” comes out December 18, 2015, which isn’t a moment too soon. In fact, it’s decidedly not soon enough.
