The world could not stand another me. I would not want another me running around as I like to be my own person. With that being said, I think would be FRESH to have another me in the house to play video games with. OR better yet, the other me could work my nine to five jobby job while I reap all the benefits of pixelated bliss that lies ahead in 2015. There is a overload of excellent games coming this year, and this time, all the best titles aren’t being pushed to the holiday season. In fact, some of the most anticipated video games are launching in the first six months of 2015 alone, making it a great time to upgrade to a PS4 or XBONE if you haven’t already (like myself).
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (PlayStation 4)
An older and more grizzled Nathan Drake returns for one final adventure in “Uncharted 4.” After surviving a trek through a sprawling desert and a jaunt through an ancient crumbling city, Uncharted champion Nathan Drake returns for his first quest on the PS4. This time, the smart-alecky treasure hunter will be joined by his brother, portrayed by omnipresent video game actor Troy Baker. Developer Naughty Dog’s last game, “The Last of Us”, won multiple game of the year awards. If they can channel some of that greatness in “Uncharted 4”, it could easily be the best game in the franchise yet.
Quantum Break (Xbox One)
From “Max Payne” and “Alan Wake” developer Remedy comes one of the seemingly most innovative experiences of the year. “Quantum Break” features protagonists involved in a botched time travel experiment that grants them time-manipulation powers, which they’ll use in combat to evade capture. And the game is tied into an ongoing TV series, with the two pieces said to blend together to provide the complete narrative. Consider myself intrigued.
Until Dawn (PlayStation 4)
This PS4 horror game is built on making split-second choices, which can mean the difference between your entire group of characters living or dying. It has been said, the game will go on no matter how many of your characters die. This means that some players will finish the game with all eight characters, some will finish with none, and others will end up somewhere in-between. Fans of games like “Heavy Rain” and Telltale’s “The Walking Dead” will feel right at home, as you’ll inspect objects and engage in reflex-testing quick-time events in order to survive.
Life Is Strange (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC)
Dontnod’s “Life Is Strange” is an episodic choice-and-consequences drama due for release at the end of this month. Based on the search for a missing teenage girl and set in the Pacific Northwest it’s been compared to “Gone Home”. While there are comparisons, the big difference is that this game features human characters in-situ interacting with one another. It looks more like a cross between (again) a Telltale adventure, A YA drama slash mystery and a touchy-feely coming-of-age indie movie, with time travel. Again, I’m in.
Bloodborne (PlayStation 4)
The pet project of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mind behind “Demon’s Souls” and “Dark Souls”, two hits that spawned a new genre of ultra-challenging role-playing games filled with both action and exploration. But there’s one key difference with this newest game: It’s going to play much faster. The combat in “Bloodborne” is delivered at a staggeringly feverish pace. The battling remains as satisfying—and as unforgiving—as ever, but the new elements of speed should push this game to have even more appeal.
