Video Game Quick Hits

Back again with some fast tidbits about upcoming games. Mostly did this today because of a Batman character I don’t recognize and I know I can count on our readers to enlighten me.

Let’s get to that one first. Apparently some people have been paying serious attention to the footage of Batman: Arkham City released at the VGAs over the weekend. Doing so has released a few pictures of someone many believe to be Calendar Man. Any news regarding this game is cool to me, but I’m about to lose some serious geek cred. Who the hell is Calendar Man?

Next up, Mortal Kombat. I already reported Kratos’ inclusion on PS3, but there is now a trailer making the circuit showing him in action. Also on PS3 will be stereoscopic 3D, if you’re into that sort of thing. And, just because this is how games come now, there are two special editions and some pre-order exclusives. Preordering at Gamestop (Scorpion), Best Buy (Sub-Zero) and Amazon (Reptile) will get you a classic costume with original fatality. Additional costume DLC is available with the Kollector’s edition, which also features Scorpion and Sub-Zero figurines as well as the prerequisite art book. If you love MK way too much, there will also be 20,000 Tournament Editions available; these will include a portable fight stick.

If you play games on XBox 360 or PC you already know cool Mass Effect 2 is. If you play on PS3, like me, you’ve been thinking you have to wait until January to experience it. Good news. There will be a demo available on PSN next week. I can’t even imagine how big it will be but it’s probably worth it if the game is as epic as I hear.

This next bit wants to be news, but there just isn’t enough to get too excited. Alan Pritchard from SEGA has told Game Informer that they do have plans to release a Dreamcast Collection. He just didn’t say when, what will be on the disc, or how much it will cost. Early rumors are February 2011 at a price of about $30.

That’s it for now. Please don’t hate me for not knowing Calendar Man. I’m hoping this is good news.
