Klei Entertainment’s first PS4 release, “Don’t Starve”, is hitting PSN today, and is free on PlayStation Plus (joined by “DMC” on PS3). But what are the possibilities of it coming to Vita? When asked about that on Twitter, Klei responded with “We’re focusing on getting PS4 out first, but we think it would be neat too. We’re looking at if it’s possible to do. Maybe?” So, it’s not, unless they say it is.
Five new characters are joining the roster of “Street Fighter IV” with the Ultra edition in June (via DLC for $14.99) / August (standalone $39.99). Elena, Hugo, Poison and Rolento are announced, but the fifth character is a mystery. At Capcom Cup, a few hints to the fighter’s identity were revealed. It will be a female competitor that has been seen in the SF universe, but never as a playable competitor. Capcom says she’s a “perfect fit” for the series. The most common guess on the internet for now Sarai Kurosawa from the UDON comics and various in-game cameos.
The LinkedIn profile of Richard Knight indicates the next-gen “Hitman” title from Square Enix Montreal, for which he was Senior Designer, has been canceled. Not much has been heard about the game since it was announced as being developed in November 2011. Square Enix has not made any official statements about the title, though they have affirmed to Polygon that IO Interactive is still currently at work on a PC and next-gen title in the franchise.
Telltale Games is on a roll, with their numerous 2012 game of the year awards for “The Walking Dead”, the first episodes of “The Walking Dead Season Two” and “The Wolf Among Us” getting rave reviews, and the excitement for the upcoming adventures set in the “Borderlands” and “Game of Thrones” universes. But CTO and Co-Founder Kevin Bruner isn’t relaxing on those titles. He’s already talking another dream franchise he’d like to develop, James Bond 007. According to Bruner, he’s “a giant James Bond fan and… always frustrated by games that make him a mass murderer. He’s a super-spy, and that’s a different skillset. The films make him less of a mass murderer, and there’s not much killing in the books – more spying and intrigue.” Which sounds right up Telltale’s alley. Killing in their games can happen as necessary, but the focus is usually much more on getting through a situation using wits and dialogue. It’s an intriguing thought, but for now a thought is all it is. Licensing would be everything for that project, and they’re clearly quite busy at the moment.
2K Games’ licensing agreement with MLB has expired, effectively ending the “MLB 2K” game franchise. According to a 2K Sports’ rep, “We have decided not to renew our “MLB 2K” series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including “NBA 2K” — our industry’s #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise.” This means the only licensed MLB video game franchise is Sony’s “MLB: The Show”. What are XBox playing baseball fans to do? That’s unknown, but they may want to start shopping for PS4s.
The second DC Comics costume pack for “LittleBigPlanet” is coming in today’s PSN store update. This second pack is very Gotham-centric, featuring outfits for sack-Batman (mask, suit, gloves, utility belt, trousers, boots, cape), Joker (hair, eyebrows, teeth, suit jacket, gloves, suit trousers, dress shoes, make-up), Harley Quinn (hair, eyes, cape, corset, skirt, hammer, skin), Poison Ivy (hair, suit, gloves, skin), and Batgirl (mask, suit, gloves, cape). The add-on is cross-buy for “LBP2,” “LBP Karting,” and “LBP Vita.”
That’s all for this week’s early edition. Check back Friday for more news.
