Some might say that “The mobile platform is incapable of producing quality games.” IMO, this is Incorrect. “Plants vs. Zombies,” “Robot Unicorn Attack,” “Hitman Go” and numerous others provide plenty high-stakes, quality fun and on the go excitement.
I have played a bunch of games on my iPhone & iPad and enjoyed many, MANY of them, despite whatever “money-grubbing trajectory”that some seem to perceive. Do the developers and publishers of mobile games want to make money? Of course, but no more or less than the devs/publishers of console and PC games. Mobile games can be LOTS of fun – when not ruined by “freemium” pay-to-win schemes or oversimplified controls.
We were lucky enough to meet up with Tim Ernst (Kabam’s General Manager) & Daniel Erickson (Director of ‘Star Wars: Uprising’) at Pax Prime this year. They let us pick their brains about Star Wars lore as well as the opportunity for an exclusive hands on with ‘Star Wars: Uprising’.
My takeaway…’Uprising’ feels like ‘Diablo’ meets ‘Star Wars’ for mobile. Think laser pistols instead of crossbows and Stormtroopers instead of demons. A cooperative dungeon crawler where players work together to battle various Imperial enemies using their unique skills, and upon defeating those enemies are rewarded with items of various quality to improve their characters. This game is a no brainer for me. I love ‘Star Wars’ and I love the action RPG genre. Games like ‘Diablo’, ‘Torchlight’, ‘Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance’, and ‘EverQuest: Champions of Norrath’ have given me hundreds, thousands(?) of hours of enjoyment.
‘Star Wars: Uprising’ will launch on Android/iOS on September 10th -here is a link to the interview/hands on/meet and greet with the good people at Kabam.
