Koji Igarashi’s Castlevania games were like a major event to my friends and myself. IGA (as his fans call him) and his team’s mastery of the genre was present in each release, whether it was sticking to tried and true ideas or trying out new gameplay elements. The guy is a LIVING LEGEND. He is the name and face of a genre. “Metroidvania”…”IGAvania”…whatever you want to call it, he is the Godfather of the exploratory 2D platforming game. IGA has returned to gothic horror with his new project, Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night. Now that the ultra successful Kickstarter campaign is finished it looks to be on track to launch Spring/Summer 2018 on a wide range of platforms, including Switch, PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Vita. We got a chance to speak to Mr. Igarashi at PAX WEST 2017. We chatted with him and his translator about the inspiration for the game (as well as the mythology behind it), the crowd funding experience and how far he can actually get on ‘Castlevania Chronicles’ – This one is a MUST listen.
