On the heels of this morning’s announcement from Amazon, not to be outdone, Netflix flexes its little red envelopes and shows why they’re still the big dog in the streaming content world. This includes CBS’s back catalogue, which has a lot of great sci-fi, including the holy grail: Star Trek.
From the press release:
Beginning in early April, dozens of hit shows from CBS will join the extensive library of television shows and movies available to watch instantly from Netflix for only $7.99 a month.
Content covered under the new deal includes the long-running drama, “Medium” and the summer season favorite, “Flashpoint.” Also covered under the agreement are episodes from some of television’s most iconic franchises. Full seasons of sitcom greats “Frasier,” “Family Ties” and “Cheers” will be streaming instantly from Netflix. Episodes from the original “Hawaii Five-0” are included in the package, as are episodes from all generations of the definitive sci-fi series, “Star Trek,” and the cult favorite, “Twin Peaks.” Installments of ’60s classics, “The Twilight Zone” and “The Andy Griffith Show,” will be available as well.
So, aside from sci-fi and enough awesome 80’s nostalgia to make you want to vote for Reagan, there’s something on there for Grandma, too, it seems.
Unfortunately, no word yet on what episodes of Trek will be available (just give it all to us– come on!! You know you want to!!!!), and in what format. You may remember the Trek remastered episodes that began airing a few years ago, It would be great if these were available, as the effects updates were a huge improvement.
So what are you robots most excited to watch? Personally, I’d like to sit down and watch both The Trouble with Tribbles and then the Deep Space Nine where they travel back in time to meet Kirk and deal with the Tribbles. Anyone else? A marathon of all of the best appearances by Q?
Or, watching all of Twin Peaks to finally figure out who killed Laura Palmer and just why everyone in that town was so weird?
