LOST Episode 511 Review

Proletaria-Tron- Fuck this episode. There was a grand total of 4 minutes of entertainment. 2 minutes of Hurley and Miles joking around about how ridiculous and confusing the timeline can be, and the last 2 minutes when we find out Kate’s stupid ass is the reason that Ben is a horrible person and everyone on the island suffered at his hands. Richard Alpert says Ben is going to “lose his innocence” which was creepy. Guy who looks like he’s wearing eyeliner talking about children losing innocence…I’m just saying, a little creepy. Also we got to see Ben wake up to John, which was pretty awesome.

Other than those 4 minutes this episode was boring as can be. I didn’t give a second thought as to what Kate did with Aaron, I really didn’t care about Sawyers kid or the chick he had it with. It has nothing to do with the main story and was boring. Episode Fail. Get your shit together J.J.

Arse-Bot- I am mostly going to agree with Proletaria-Tron here. Week after week I keep waiting for something big and profound to happen, but it never does. I understand the story is moving along (all be it at a slow pace) gradually, but I really have yet to be “wowed” with any episode as I have in seasons past.

This episode focused on Kate, which means I knew it was going to suck. I was massively disappointed to find out that what Sawyer wanted Kate to do was to take care of his old flame and daughter; yeah, I was a little shocked he had a kid and knew about it, but I wasn’t that interested. I felt like that as with any episode focused on Kate, it was just a bunch of her crying and tyring to make a decision.

What I did like about this episode was Hurley and Miles talking about Back to the Future, time travel, time lines, and joking about how some of it didn’t make sense. I felt like this was a nod to the viewers like, “We know, it doesn’t make sense… yet. Just hang in there.” I really felt like this episode could have benefited from more Hurley/Miles interaction, as they were inadvertently shedding some light on all this time travel business in a very funny way. By the way, where the hell is Faraday?!

I also find the role reversal of Sawyer and Jack to be pretty interesting. I like asshole Jack much more than “old” Jack. And I like the Kate doesn’t like new Jack, to hell with her, she can go cry about it like she does everything else. You can tell Sawyer is kind of the “leader” now since he has been building this whole other life for the last three years, but I notice that the more and more he interacts with his old survivor friends, the more he slips back into classic Sawyer. More over showing that so far, them coming back to the Island has done nothing but mess things up. Judging by next week’s preview, it appears that possibly Ben may have just used them to get back to the Island for his own reasons, to be judged or something (surprise!)…

In the end, I’m not sure I buy this whole “Sure, this creepy little kid is going to turn into Ben, a man who put all us survirors through hell for months, manipulated us, let his own daughter die, and messed up time, but he’s just a kid right now, so let’s save him…” Have they honestly just forgotten all of this?! Especially when Richard explicitly tells them he will lose his innocence! Overall, it seems like this season is just kind of lumbering on, and while we do find out a little more with each episode (good and bad), I feel like some of these stories could be reconciled into one episode because some of it just feels dragged out. Hopefully JJ breaks into a sprint for an episode or two soon…
