The iPad Mini Cometh

After the press invites went out speculation ran wild, most of which, was right.

The iPad Mini:

The announcement everyone expected finally came through. The iPad mini will begin pre-ordering the wifi versions on Friday, October 26. It will have 3 models available to order 16gb, 32gb, and surprise!!! 64gb. Their pricing will follow the usual Apple structure, beginning at $329.99, and increasing $100.00 as you double the memory capacity.

The Specs:

  • 7.9″ Display same tech as iPad 2
  • 5 mp camera
  • Apple A6 Processor
  • 23% thinner, 54% lighter
  • LTE (On Cellular Models)
  • Dual band wireless g/n/b for better performance

I was pretty happy with the announcement overall, aside from the price I feel Apple has nailed down an incredible product. When the WiFi + Cellular models launch (sometime in November) they will be $479.99, $579.99, $679.99. Putting a mere $150.00 division between the two types of iPads, and only a $50.00 difference between the iPad mini Cellular, and the iPad 2 which will remain on the market. In a world where tablets are so competitive, price could offset the sales numbers for the new tablet. I think #329.99 is a good value, but when put to the choice of operating systems, and depending what Windows tablets begin flying out in the next few months, the market may not be as friendly to Apple as it usually is with this launch.

The iPad with Retina (AKA 4th Gen iPad)

Replacing the current generation iPad this will feature similar specs to what’s on the market now. They did however upgrade the processor to the Apple A6X. Making it twice as fast without sacrificing battery, and a 720p front-facing camera.

There you have it folks, your tablet dreams have been fulfilled, or have they? Anyone carrying a 3rd generation iPad planning to move to the 4th? Doesn’t seem like an intelligent upgrade to me, but you never know these days. Or are any folks planning on snagging a budget-friendly iPad mini? It’ll surely be the top holiday seller this year.
