Nintendo Wii WiiWare/Virtual Console Releases 8/25

This week Nintendo released 3 games 1 being WiiWare and 2 Virtual Console games.  The 2 Virtual Console games are the remaining 2 games that were unreleased when they changed there line up a couple weeks back.

WiiWare

Helix (Ghostfire Games, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Helix is one of the most innovative music-rhythm games ever designed for the Wii console. Use the Wii Remote? controller to do dozens of exciting moves, including punches, circles, back fists, hooks and more. Be mesmerized by the eye-popping background visuals, which pulse to the beat of the music. Enjoy incredible replay value with 26 songs to play and three difficulty levels. Try to unlock all of the songs. This game is great for getting exercise plus having fun. No buttons are required, so it’s easy for anyone to pick up but difficult for even the best players to master.

This game seems really interesting because it’s a body movement rhythm game.  Although i don’t really understand how it works.  You can see some game play here. If you like game like DDR you would probably like this type of game.

Virtual Console

Ys Book I & II (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Ys Book I & II chronicles the first adventures of Adol Christin, a young, red-haired swordsman on a quest to unlock the secrets of an ancient kingdom. As Adol, you search the island of Esteria, gathering clues to unravel the mystery of Ys. Fight monsters that lurk in caves and towers with physical or magical attacks, and use your brain to make your way through dangerous areas filled with traps. In Ys Book I & II, the first titles in the Ys series were put together as a single TurboGrafx CD-ROM. They awed players with their gripping story lines accompanied by fully orchestrated soundtracks, wonderful voice acting and amazing special effects. Don’t miss out on your chance to experience this wonderful piece of gaming history.

This is supposed to be one of the best rpg’s made.  I couldn’t tell you for sure because I’ve never got around to playing it.  I would recommend this game solely on reputation.

SAMURAI SHODOWN 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Blood, Language, Tobacco Reference, Violence, 900 Wii Points): First released in 1994, this fighting game follows 15 samurai in their individual quests. The rage system, which was popular in the first game, has been further enhanced. Not only does attack power rise when the gauge is full, but the player can also use a special technique that can break the opponent’s weapon and force the opponent to fight unarmed. The game also allows for more movement techniques such as back-stepping, rushing forward and ducking, allowing for even more strategies. A fun and important detail of this game: One of the new characters, Cham Cham, was voiced by voice

This is one of the better 2D fighters from back in the glory days of 2D fighters.  If you don’t have at least one 2D fighter on the Virtual Console this one would defenitly work to fill that spot.

UPDATE: Ghostbusters the Game Script

Proton Charging’s latest post reveals a little more of the plot for the new game. As well as ties to the original Ghostbusters 3 script. Winston has finished school and has a PHD in Engineering (this is a little bizarre since the game takes place just a few years after the second movie).

This makes you wonder what else Akroyd is salvaging from the Ghostbusters 3 script for us in the game. From what I understand, the first draft of script for the third movie was very technical. More of an emphasis on props and theories than gags. The script followed Winston, Egon and Ray on their way out as Ghostbusters. They’ve turned their small business into a franchise.

Basically Hell starts to fill up. It is represented by an alternate dimension of New York, called “Manhellton.” Hell is run by a Donald Trump style mogul named Mr. Siffler (Lou-Siffler?). Of course the boys in grey aren’t going to stand for this going down in their town. Egon creates some portal technology which they use to bust into Manhellton gangbusters style.

Although I haven’t read this script myself, I wouldn’t mind tracking down a copy to review. We should all keep in mind that this was a first draft that only Akroyd had touched. The previous films were in the hands of Akroyd, Ramis and Reitman before they were filmed. One particular scene that really caught my attention was an army of Ecto-1s crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. How cool would that be? As well as a large truck called the Ecto-50 which was used as a portable containment unit.

Mario Super Sluggers!

i_15718.jpg

Mario Super Sluggers is coming on the 25th.  If you liked the previous incarnation of the Mario Baseball series you will love this one.  Some of the new features are like the Wii Sports baseball mini game i.e. pitching and batting with the Wii Remote.

Let the Wii Remote be your bat as you join Mario, Luigi, Peach and the rest of the gang in a rocking, socking baseball extravaganza.

  • Newcomers to gaming or sports titles will be up and running on Mario Super Sluggers in no time. Simply swing the Wii Remote to smack a home run, or use a pitching motion to toss the ball over the plate.
  • Two, three or four players can pick up Wii Remote controllers and challenge one another to a full baseball game or compete in a host of baseball-themed mini-games. There’s even a home run hitting contest.
  • i_15703.jpgMario Super Sluggers boasts more than 40 playable characters, all Nintendo favorites. The single-player adventure mode allows the player to explore Baseball Kingdom, tackle dozens of fun baseball challenges and unlock new characters that can be used in any mode. You can also play with your Mii characters in Exhibition, Toy Field and Minigame modes.

Some of the returning features are things like gameplay modes, and Special Powers.

  • Challenge
  • Exhibition
  • Minigame
  • Toy Field
  • Training

i_15711.jpgSpecial powers/items/moves/features: This isn’t your typical baseball game. From special moves to obstacle-filled stadiums, there’s always something new around the corner.

There are going to be more than 40 characters from the Mario universe.  This will more than likely include characters like Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxies.

So for all of you that like the Wii Sports Baseball and Mario Baseball this seems to be combination of the two.

Wii WiiWare/Virtual Console Releases 8/18

This week 3 games came out 1 WiiWare and 2 Virtual Console games which now seems pretty standard but today had one great advantage over other weeks Mega Man.  That’s right the game that Made the Blue Bomber what he is today came out today.  But we’ll talk about that last so you don’t loose interest.

WiiWare

i_16071.jpgMidnight Pool (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Suggestive Themes, Simulated Gambling, 800 Wii Points): Take a trip across America to make your dreams come true in a pool tournament worth millions. Visit the most colorful bars and meet seven of the coolest players on the circuit, from country music star Travis to Alison the biologist and John the sheriff. Learn the tricks of the trade through tutorials along the way, while advanced players can take on challenges to show off their trick-shot abilities. Keep things interesting with three sets of rules.

This is a prime example of a game that reduces outside contact.  But if you like Pool This game might be worth checking out. You never know this could be a good emulation of real pool.

Virtual Console

i_16086.jpgNEO TURF MASTERS (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 900 Wii Points): This is a golf game that was first released in 1996. The player picks one of six available golfers and competes on a number of golf courses around the world, including Japan (Fujiyama Oriental Golf Club), America (Grand Canyon Golf Course), Australia (Blue Lagoon Golf Course) and Germany (Baden Golf Course). The game features two modes of play.i_16085.jpg The first is Stroke Play, in which the player attempts to get the best score by playing all 18 holes. The second is Match Play, in which two players compete to see who can win more of the 18 holes. Grab a friend and get ready to hit the fairway.

some of these old school Golf games are pretty good.  The problem is you can’t tell until you try them, so if you like old school golf game go for it other wise don’t worry it’s not worth it anyway.

i_16078.jpgMega Man (NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): Join the blue bomber in his first-ever adventure as he battles the evil Dr. Wily and his robotic henchmen to restore peace to a troubled world. Mega Man is a super-robot created by the genius scientist Dr. Light. Wheni_16077.jpg Dr. Wily goes rogue with an army of six of his own devious robot masters, it’s up to Mega Man to put a stop to his nefarious plot by traversing a series of stages rife with enemies, traps and perilous platform challenges. At the end of each stage, conquer one of the robot masters and claim his weapon as your own, using it to your advantage in subsequent fights.

I was mad the last couple weeks because they pulled this game for Okay ports of games they already had on the Virtual Console.  Now that it’s released I find that I’m just as happy as I was when they announced they would be releasing Mega Man 9 on the WiiWare.  This is a Great game and everyone should get it so we can get more games from Capcom on the Virtual Console and WiiWare.

On Capcom Unity a post was added from the producer of Mega Man 9, Hironobu Takeshita

Greetings everyone!

Hironobu Takeshita here, producer of Mega Man 9. I’d like to take advantage of this blog format to reveal bits and pieces of Mega Man 9 information directly to fans.

I don’t need to tell you, but it’s been more than a decade since we’ve created a new installment in the original Mega Man series, and – believe me – we’ve put 10 years worth of pent up creative energy into it! Keiji Inafune, the “father” of Mega Man, is very deeply involved in this project.  Better yet, we’ve created the entire game to resemble an NES game in both the graphics and sound department!

For the rest of that post you can go here.

Update: MegaMan 9!

Capcom announced some of the Specifics of Mega Man 9 namely three Bosses art/abilities.  It looks like this game Is coming to all three major consoles sometime this Fall.  Click on the images to enlarge.

tornado_blow_psd_jpgcopy.jpgWeapon: Tornado Blow

With these types of Robot Bosses This game is looking like it will be really cool and have the right kind of feel.  These are the basic elements to original games and it seems to suit this new one great. if there is anymore news to come up I’ll post it as soon as I can. I just felt that everyone would like to see this picture with the coolest enemy ever. concrete007_bmp_jpgcopy.jpg

Prince of Persia Movie

JoBlo posted a set pic on their site.  I used to play this game as a kid on my 486, but I have no real afinity towards the series.

It looks like shit.  Feel free to discuss below because I have no desire to do so.

Wii WiiWare/Virtual Console Releases 8/11

This Week there were 3 games released 1 WiiWare game and 2 Virtual Console games

WiiWare

i_16035.jpgStrong Bad Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner (Telltale Games, 1 player, Rated T for Teen-Crude Humor, Mild Cartoon Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,000 Wii Points): Charming. Suave. Awesome. These are the words Strong Bad would use to describe himself. In a world gone mad, only one man can be trusted to save the day. A man with an attitude. A man called Strong Bad. As the star of the Homestar Runner Web cartoons, Strong Bad has been answering e-mails (in boxing gloves), pranking his friends, pummeling his enemies, and making people with questionable taste snort milk out of their noses for years now. And he’s branched out to star in Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, a monthly five-episode series. In Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner, Strong Bad’s plans to beat the snot out of Homestar backfire, and he ends up with an unwanted houseguest cramping his style. Now he needs to get life back to normal by any means possible. But wait, there’s more: Teen Girl Squad comics, achievements, funny costumes and arcade games. You can even send pictures and messages to Wii Friends using Strong Bad’s computer. So how about it? Can you handle Strong Bad’s style?

I don’t know what to say about this game.  It sounds like it could be pretty fun,  Though it looks really nerdy.  There is a Video here.  There is a demo here. I would recommenced that you get this if you like the Strong Bad series.  It is 5 “episodes” long so be prepared to spend a bit of money for the full series.

Now on to the Virtual Console.

Virtual Console

Break In (TurboGrafx16, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Tobacco Reference, 700 Wii Points): Gather up to four players for an authentic game of pool right in your own home. Choose from six billiards games including 9-Ball, Rotation and Carom (a game played without pockets). Use Simulation mode to calculate the perfect shot, or select Action mode and checki_16042.jpg out what went wrong with your missed shots. With all that to choose from, Break In gives players-from beginners to experts-all the elements necessary to enjoy a great game of pool. But it doesn’t stop there. Select Technique to practice your angles or even go for a trick shot. Get some help from the CPU and hone your skills. With Break In, you’ll be a pro in no time.

This game sounds lame and if you like pool so much I would suggest that you go down to the local pool hall and play, or buy Wii Play and play 9-ball.

i_16050.jpgStar Parodier (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 900 Wii Points): Star Parodier is the hilarious spoof of the classic Hudson shooter Star Soldier. In this parody, there are three playable ships for players to choose from: the ingratiating PAROCEASER, the hot-headed BOMBERMAN, and the ever-so-introverted PC-ENGINE. Players control one of these unique and original ships and set off to blasti_16049.jpg their way through eight stages on the planet PAROSON. The comical characters take the color and flavor of the Soldier series to the next level and are guaranteed to leave players mesmerized. In addition to the normal game mode, there are also the familiar two-minute and five-minute attack modes, making Star Parodier the complete package that is sure to have players coming back for more.

This game is like 1942 with a more of a cartoon feel to it, and cool enemys like a giant Bomber Man.  You can see some game play here.  If you like top down aircraft shooters I think you will love this game.

All in all Nintendo did a better job with there releases this week.  I’m still majorly dissapointed with them from last week bu these releases make up for it a Smidgin.

HALO Movie: What’s Going On?

HaloPic

I’m sure most of you Halo fans remember a while back when there was a lot of speculation about a Halo movie; there were even some people and a studio attached to the project: FOX/UNIVERSAL, Peter Jackson, Neil Blomkamp, with the script by Garland and rewritten by DB Weiss. I’m also sure that most of you are well aware that this project is now dead, everyone previously attached has picked up and moved on to other projects.

But yesterday latinoreview.com broke the story that while the previous incarnation of a Halo Movie is dead, there is another version floating around that is very much alive, with concept art and all. The script has been written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral, Derailed, 30 Days of Night, & Australia as well as the upcoming G.I. Joe and Spy Hunter movies) and is based on the Halo novel The Fall of Reach. Now, I love the Halo games as much as the next guy, but I haven’t gone as far to read any of the Halo fiction, but here is a summary of the 2001 novel from amazon.com:

“As the bloody Human-Covenant War rages on Halo, the fate of humankind may rest with one warrior, the lone SPARTAN survivor of another legendary battle . . . the desperate, take-no-prisoners struggle that led humanity to Halo–the fall of the planet Reach. Now, brought to life for the first time, here is the full story of that glorious, doomed conflict.

While the brutal Covenant juggernaut sweeps inexorably through space, intent on wiping out humankind, only one stronghold remains–the planet Reach. Practically on Earth’s doorstep, it is the last military fortress to defy the onslaught. But the personnel here have another, higher priority: to prevent the Covenant from discovering the location of Earth.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the soldiers seem to have little chance against the Covenant, but Reach holds a closely guarded secret. It is the training ground for the very first “super soldiers.” Code-named SPARTANs, these highly advanced warriors, specially bioengineered and technologically augmented, are the best in the universe–quiet, professional, and deadly.

Now, as the ferocious Covenant attack begins, a handful of SPARTANs stand ready to wage ultimate war. They will kill, they will be destroyed, but they will never surrender. And at least one of them–the SPARTAN known as Master Chief–will live to fight another day on a mysterious and ancient, artificial world called Halo. . . .”

Latinoreview.com claims that this is legit and that they have gotten their hands on 5 pieces of concept art by conceptual artist Kasra Farahani (Wolf Man, Hancock, Spider-Man 3) that they will be debuting every Monday for the next 5 weeks (including this last Monday) so be sure to keep checking in over the next four weeks to check out more concept art!

As far as this bot’s feelings towards a Halo movie? Eh. Could be good, could suck, no one really knows. Maybe if this actually gets picked up and has a director and studio attached to it I may have feelings one way or the other, but until then this is all speculation. Check out the concept art below and click the picture for a bigger version!

Wii WiiWare/Virtual Console Releases 8/4

This week there were 3 games released 1 WiiWare and 2 Virtual Console games.  This week was also a big disappointment because 3 Virtual Console game were announced and not released.  Those games were Mega Man, Samurai Shodown II and Ys: Book I & II.

WiiWare

Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen—Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Draw your revolver to see if you’re the fastest gun in the West. Adjust your speed and precision as targets or enemies appear in front of you. Point and shoot to earn more points. You can aim at anything, so be sure to explore the environment for elements that will earn you more shooting points. Identify your enemies among the characters you encounter, but don’t shoot at innocent citizens. Take part in an Old West-style train attack, or challenge your skills in a variety of increasingly difficult shooting challenges in other beautiful, classic and lively Western environments. As you progress through challenges, you’ll earn medals and rewards, making for nonstop, addictive action. Play in a two-player multiplayer mode where you and your partner can combine points, or play against each other to find out who’s the fastest gun in the West.

Wild West Guns looks to be a pretty standard Arcade style target Shooter,  Although with the Wii Sensor bar and Wii remote it’s not going to be the same.  If you like Target practice then this game is a totally great choice.  You can see some game play here.

Virtual Console

Sonic The Hedgehog™ (Sega Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the original Sega Genesis version, Sonic The Hedgehog was re-created as the first Sonic game for the Sega Master System. Not just a straight port, this version includes new stages, bosses, some different zones and a level map. The most noticeable difference, however, is that the Chaos Emeralds have to be found within certain stages other than the Special Stages. Dash through six Zones (including special zones that were only available for the Sega Master System version) and face Dr. Eggman (a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik) at the end of every Zone.

Ok this is just lame.  They didn’t want to release games that like Mega Man so they could release a game that’s just a remake of a game that is already on the Virtual Console? Although the Sonic games are good I wouldn’t want to buy this one for reasoning of I already have the Original version which is considered better anyway.  If you don’t remember what it looks like you can see the game here.

SPLATTERHOUSE™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated M for Mature—Blood and Gore, Violence, 800 Wii Points): SPLATTERHOUSE 2 is the sequel to SPLATTERHOUSE, released only on the Sega Genesis. A few months after escaping from the first mansion in SPLATTERHOUSE, the main character, Rick, once again encounters the Terror Mask and must use its powers to rescue his beloved Jennifer. Rick will need to punch, slash, smash and even chainsaw his way through a haunted mansion against unspeakable horrors and terrifying bosses to make it out alive.

If you liked the first SplatterHouse you will probably like this one as well.  This game wasn’t too bad of a release but it’s still not as good of a choice as Samurai Shodown II.  Here is some game play of the game.  I’m sure this game is as fun as the first of the series.

This week Nintendo did some weird crap.  Which leaves me thinking that Nintendo didn’t know what they were doing today.  They told companies like Capcom that their game(s) were going to come out today but they released totally different games.  Although these games are fun, I’m sure, there are games that Nintendo had been planning on releasing I believe they would have had a better reception.
