TRAILER: Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

I’m excited to see this game. I think overall, Star Wars video games have been a cut above most video games and this one looks like no exception. It would also seem as though the game designers have been given access to all of the assets from the TV show to give us a truly unique Clone Wars gaming experience.

From the official press release:

Fans of the popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars™ TV series can continue the battle for galactic peace this September in an all-new videogame from LucasArts and Krome Studios. Based on the Cartoon Network series and utilizing materials straight from Lucasfilm Animation, Star Wars® The Clone Wars™: Republic Heroes™ allows players to take up arms on behalf of the noble Galactic Republic, while pursuing the mysterious bounty hunter Cad Bane and combating the all-new Skakoan super villain Kul Teska.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes allows players to fight as both Jedi Knights and clone troopers through over 30 unique missions, all created from shared visual assets from the TV series. Featuring a brand-new storyline, players will get the chance to take part in the key events that lead directly into the highly anticipated second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Jedi characters can slice and dice their way through countless enemies, commandeer droids and show off their combat prowess on foot and in a variety of vehicles. Clone troopers fire things up with a heavy weapons armament that includes rocket launchers, thermal detonators and even jet packs in levels built specifically to take run-and-gun gameplay to exciting levels.
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes will release this September for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Nintendo DS™ and PC.

More information about the game can be found at the official website, http://www.clonewarsgame.com.

REVIEW: Crystal Defenders R1

Crystal Defenders is the new addition to the Final Fantasy universe. It takes place in Ivalice (The same world as FFT, and FF12.) which is irrelevant because it doesn’t establish, build, or tell any sort of story at all.

I know some of you robots are immediately turned off when someone mentions “Final Fantasy” but this is an exception to the rule. It is what’s known as a tower defense game. Which is basically a very simple strategy game in which you place units at strategic points of a maze so that when the enemies run by you can route them. You can level up your troops, and there are seven different types to choose from. Another cool feature is that when you defeat certain monsters, you can summon them to help you later. The problem with the summon ability is that if you use it in a stage, it automatically takes away your perfect score.

There are 12 stages, and a special secret stage that you can unlock when you get perfect scores on all the stages. The R1 means that this is the beginner difficulty, they are going to release R2 later and I hope that it is a little bit tougher to beat. This one was actually quite easy, but really fun. It’s something that you can just shut your brain off and play through. The only problem is that once you know how to win a stage it’s really easy to repeat your success, and since there is no variation in the game play, I would say this has very little replay ability.

On the plus side it’s only 800 Wii points ($8) so it’s not like you are sinking a lot of money on it. It offers at least a few days of playability, so I think it’s totally worth it. I hope they expand the online features when they release R2 because this would be a really fun game to play two player. Right now the online features consist of score comparisons.

Apparently they are releaseing some other games similar to this on some of the other systems. So if you don’t have a Wii you aren’t completely out of luck. I think this is a fun game and if you have a day to kill, there are far worse uses of your time. The game runs really smooth and the artwork for the game is really cool. It was released April 20th

Cory Walker Back on Invincible!

It has been announced that Invincible co-creator Cory Walker is coming back for a two issue arc. It’s leading role none other than Invincible’s father himself, the viltrumite Nolan, possibly better known as Omni-man. He will be teaming up with his new partner Allen the Alien. Apparently if I can read correctly it will take place starting in Invincible #66.

From the press release:

15 April 2009 (Berkeley, CA) – Yesterday afternoon during G4 TV series Attack of the Show’s Fresh Ink segment, Blair Butler announced acclaimed artist and INVINCIBLE co-creator Cory Walker will return to illustrating INVINCIBLE in a two-part story setting the stage for the upcoming ‘Viltrumite War’!

“While Cory has been working behind the scenes in the INVINCIBLE crew, it’s great to have him back for these two very special issues,” INVINCIBLE co-creator and writer Robert Kirkman said. “They’re going to be pretty damn momentous in the grand scheme of INVINCIBLE as we place the spotlight on INVINCIBLE’s dad, Nolan, and his new partner, Allen the Alien, while they seek the only weapons capable of taking down the Viltrumite empire. It’s gonna be awesome!”

Walker and Kirkman’s newest creative collaboration takes place after the fan-favorite issue in which Invincible’s father, Nolan, broke free from Viltrumite prison with the assistance of Allen the Alien. Their successful escape led to Nolan joining forces with Allen and the Coalition of Planets in their efforts taking down the Viltrumite empire. Walker’s new action-packed two-part shocker will have ramifications leading up to the major confrontation the entire series has been building towards as the ‘Vitrumite War’ begins in INVINCIBLE #75.

INVINCIBLE #66, a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be in stores September, 2009.

Street Fighter 4: Gouken

I just wanted to offer my congratulations to Clang! Boom! Steam! for his skill at unlocking the most impossible character on Street Fighter 4: Gouken.

photo7

I don’t know if you guys understand how much is involved in unlocking him or why this should be impressive, but it is.

Gouken: After unlocking Akuma, Sakura Kasugano, Dan Hibiki, Cammy White, Fei Long, Gen, and Rose. First finish the arcade mode (on any difficulty) with Akuma, and watch (not necessary to watch everything) an ending. In this case to play also use a character you already finished arcade mode with, and with which you watched the ending once, for his/her second or later playthrough. Then fight Gouken on arcade mode, to do that get: at least 1 perfect round on 1-round matches (or 2 perfects on 3-round matches / 3 perfects on 5-round matches / 4 perfects on 7-round matches), plus at least 3 Super Combo or Ultra Combo Finishes on 1-round matches (or 5 super/ultra finishes on 3-round matches / 7 super/ultra finishes on 5-round matches / 9 super/ultra finishes on 7-round matches), and at least 5 First Attacks — meaning you must score the first strike in a match — in 1 match (or 10 first attacks in 3-round matches / 15 first attacks in 5-round matches / 20 first attacks in 7-round matches). But you can’t lose any matches/rounds nor use a continue when you die. Beating Gouken will unlock him.

This feat has eaten up far more office time for Clang!, PencilBot and myself than I would like.

CHUD.com Ghostbusters Interview

Here’s a snippet below:

…and when we do the Ghostbusters 3 movie, hopefully, Sigourney will be in, I know. We’ll make that happen.” That ‘hopefully’ was in reference to making the movie, I believe, not to Weaver’s role in it. He followed up with, “but there’ll be a whole new generation that has to be trained. And that whole new generation will be led by an individual that you’ll all love when you hear who it is, but I’m not going to tell you now. There will be lots of cadets, boys and girls, who’ll be learning how to use the cyclotron, the accelerators, and the new stuff. The nuon splitter, the inter-planary interceptor, all these great tools they’re going to have to flip from dimension to dimension. Anyway. Game number two, maybe.

Nine Inch Nails’ Year Zero In Developement

Digg founder, Kevin Rose and Nine Inch Nails figurehead Trent Reznor sat down recently and answered questions submitted (and voted for) by fans for the fourth ever Digg Dialogue. Year Zero television series is topic of discussion and is described as “a dramatic unraveling of the end of the world.” Reznor will oversee the project at an executive producer, most likely with NIN art director, Rob Sheridan. The rest of the dialogue is fantastic, as Reznor is a selfproclaimed geek, you can check the whole thing out here.
