Big Shiny Robot Attacked by Katamari!

This is pretty cool. If you are unfamiliar with the series of games by Namco called Katamari Damacy, you play as the Prince of the Cosmos. You are tasked by your father, the King to use your magical ball called a katamari. to collect as much junk as you can on Earth. The goal of this is ostensibly to make new planetary bodies, but to be honest, the fun lies in just roaming around and trying to pick up random stuff. You know, paper clips, erasers, the mailman.  The katamari picks up any and everything it sees, and gets larger accordingly. It’s a very charming and addictive game, and now thanks to the efforts of the Katamari Hack, you can play it on any website! Of course I couldn’t resist playing ir here at BSR, and here’s the result:

Just as in the game, you start off with a tiny katamari, but as soon as you start letting it pick up words and images it gets progressively bigger. Best of all, it is accompanied by the game’s distinctive theme song! If you’re curious as to how it works, here’s the skinny straight from the source, but to be honest, I can’t makes heads or tails of it.

Short version: css transforms (for things stuck to the katamari), canvas (drawing the katamari), and z-index (illusion of depth).

Long version: The bookmarklet loads jQuery and kh.js into the current page. jQuery is used mostly for.offset() and .css().  kh.js is where all the action happens:

  • Splits all the text on the page into words/spans. (StickyNodes::addWords)
  • Builds a grid data structure so that intersections with elements can be found quickly (StickyNodes::finalize). Essentially grid[floor(x / 100)][floor(y / 100)] is a list of elements in a 100×100 pixel block. This should probably be an R-tree, but the hot-spot in this program is definitely in the rendering.
  • The ball and stripes are drawn in a canvas that gets moved around the page (i.e. position: absolute; left: x; top: y;). See PlayerBall::drawBall.
  • When an element is attached to the katamari, a clone is made. The original element is hidden. The new element is moved around by setting -webkit-transform. The transform rotates the element about the rolling axis of the katamari and scales the element to make it look like it’s coming out of the page. See PlayerBall::drawAttached, transform_test.html, andtransform_test2.html.

So, there you have it. The bookmarklet works best on Google Chrome and Firefox 4, so if you have a few spare minutes, give it a shot. I myself am going to eat more text so I can pick up the Big Shiny Robot himself!

And what’s with the PSP? Do they only release crazy Japanese anime stuff with unpronounceable names now?

Saturday’s Top Ten: SNES

Today we have my top 10 favorite games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

10. Super Mario RPG

Mario decided to get into the world of RPGs with this game. It introduced some really odd characters like the lovable cloud and a doll which knew magic. Plus you could get Bowser and Princess on your team as well. This game even made fun of the Power Rangers. Somehow they were able to keep the Mario worlds intact and add a RPG flavor which worked out quite well. The story was compelling and trying to get everything was tough and fun at the same time. There were certain things which you could only get once and if you didn’t do it then you couldn’t get it, and any time there are those things in a game it does get a little annoying. But overall this was a very fun game and yet another RPG I loved in my youth. I’ve played through it twice and I think I’d like to give it another try.

9. Super Mario World

When you beat the whole game your score would come out as 96 with a star next to it. Then there was also that level where you could get over 100 lives. Mario games like this were really fun. I got 96star about 3 or 4 times.

8. Kirby’s Dream Course

It’s like Golf but with Kirby as the ball. Oh wow this was a good thought for a game. Golfing with Kirby and getting certain super powers. This game was just as fun when I last played it six months ago as it was when it first came out. Kirby is such a good character and golfing with him was the perfect way to have his character. Endless fun in this one.

7. Secret Of Evermore

Most people would disagree with me putting this on my list and not Secret of Mana, but I didn’t play Mana nearly as much as I played Evermore. I owned this one and I thought it was a really interesting story which I still sometimes find myself thinking about. The system was great and having just a boy and his dog was even better, a changing dog depending on the world. The ending was a little lackluster because of the bazooka, but other then that it was a really fun game and one I enjoyed a whole lot.

6. ClayFighter

This game needs an explanation on this list further then I like it because I’m sure many to all of you will look at this and say “what?” This game is specifically on my list because of it’s impact to my overall gaming life. Right about the time the super nintendo came out, I had 8 games on the NES and my parents had no need to buy me a new gaming system. I was still a pre teenager then and didn’t have my own source of income. It was then that Blockbuster video created the “Video Game Championships”. Each individual Blockbuster had three games for you to play. NBA Jam, TMNT Fighters and Clayfighter. Whoever got the highest scores combined on all three games became that specific store’s champion and went on to the state competition. I played Clayfighter and found a cheap move with the character Tiny where you could kick the other character up to the other side of the screen and win with out getting hit. I scored so many points that when I finally went to NBA Jam I was told I would only need 8 points to win my blockbuster. I scored 18 to be safe and became my city’s Video Game Champion. My parents saw this and rewarded me with a super nintendo so I could practice the games. Unfortunately the state competition had my worst of the three games as the game of choice NBA Jam and I lost in the first round. However for making it to State I was rewarded with one of the three games for free. Clayfighter was the easy choice.

Because of this game I obtained a super nintendo and was able to play all the games on this list. This game was my gateway drug. And I love it for it.

5. Super Metroid

This game was one of the best action adventure type games of it’s era. It was a maze of wonder with so much to do and so much to explore. Trying to find everything and having to go back to places you had already been. It was such an adventure. I never really got into the original Metroid but this one was and is such a good game. Really well crafted and still fun and challenging now.

4. Earthbound

An RPG where you are some little kid with a yo-yo and you battle monsters and go back in time and all sorts of nonsense. This game was so quirky and random and it worked so incredibly well. The fighting system was lacking a bit but the story was phenomenal. Even the soundtrack was awesome. Take some time for those who played this one and think about the randomness of this game. There was so much to it. Incredibly intricate and divine.

3. The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

This is my favorite Zelda game of all time. This one was the one which brought me the most challenge and the most fun through out the years. Having two worlds which you had to go between to accomplish all the things you needed to was such a nice plot point that made things hard and yet solvable.

2. Chrono Trigger

The Super Nintendo was the king of RPGs. Traveling through time and having the things you do in the past affect the future is so incredibly cool. Also this game has many different endings depending on which path you take or different ways in which you can beat the game so it was fun even when you had played it a couple of times and you wanted to try for a different ending. Even the music was stellar in this game. I had Frog’s theme as a ringtone on my phone for 2 years and was so happy when it played. I’ve played through this game about 10 times and am getting a hankerin’ to play through it again.

1. Final Fantasy 6

Here it is, the best Super Nintendo game and one of the greatest games of all time. Final Fantasy 6 convinced me that video games could have story lines. This game didn’t just have one story line, it had a good story line for every character they had. Beside just that the overall story line was so incredibly epic. You gather your team, you fight within the world given, and just when you think the game is over, the world changes and you find you’re only halfway through the game and you need to go find all of your old team again. Finally ending the game with one of the most epic final bosses in creation. I have played through this game so many times and have gotten just as excited each time. There is just so much to do and all of it seems worthwhile to do. Best console game ever.

Agree or Disagree? What would be on your list?

Megaman Legends 3 announced for 3DS

Against flimsy sales of the second entry in the “Legends”, Capcom has finally started production on Megaman Legends 3 for the 3DS. Known as “DASH 3 PROJECT” in Japan, creator Keiji Inafune has been talking up the sequel nearly ten years in the making all over the internet. Sadly, his departure from Capcom has fans of the series worried, especially since it has come to light that the game has not yet been green-lit.

I’ll be the first to admit, I was a sucker for its cel-shaded, anime plotline, exploration heavy gameplay. I loved finding that one piece I needed for my next gun, or a large cache of zenny, the in game currency, deep underground. However, recent statements from Inafune are causing some distress on my part. The creator has gone on record stating that fans will be co-developers on the title. Now, hear that? It’s the shrieks of every depraved fanfic writer combining in pure excitement, and I’m not sure a game, unless it exists as a creation tool, should have any fan input. There is a reason why everyone on earth is not working in the game industry.

The above picture is an actual contest, involving choosing the game’s main heroine in ML 3. This move all together feels pretty cheap and objectifying. It’s like a Miss America Pageant, choosing one out of a group of girls who is prettiest. Again, not something fans should have any say over. A subsequent contest let fans design one of the game distinctive reaverbots, which is reminiscent of the fan design robot masters in the original Mega Man series.

Will Megaman Legends 3 be worth our time? At this point, it’s hard to tell. No screenshots or plotline has been leaked, but it’s assumed it will follow up the cliffhanger ending on Legends 2. A progress link on the Japanese website has a countdown timer reading “13%”. So settle in, and wait for more news right here as they are announced. If you want to find out more (in English), be sure to check the Legends 3 Devroom Blog!

Video Game Quick Hits 3/11/11

What a seriously slow week. Nothing truly major to report, but some nice screens from a few upcoming titles.

I never quite know what to make of Suda51. It would be easy to write Shadows of the Damned off as just another zombie shooter, but do so at your own risk. This is the guy that made killer7, No More Heroes, Flower, etc. The game has been given a release date of June 7, 2011. You can figure out why your girlfriend has demons bursting out of her skin then. In the meantime, where can I get my hands on an anthropomorphic shape-shifting skull gun named Johnson?

I mentioned on Tuesday that Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a release date of August 23rd, but I’ve gotten some more information to add to that date. First, there will be an “Augmented” edition available at release for an extra $10. This edition will include a bonus DVD (making of special, soundtrack, motion comic, trailer, and storyboard) as well as a 40 page art book. There are also two preorder bonuses possible, The Explosive Mission Pack (GameStop) and the Tactical Enhancement Pack (“participating retailers”). The Explosive pack includes a new mission, special grenade launcher, M-28 remote detonator, and an automatic unlocking device. The Tactical version will get you an exclusive double barrel shotgun, silenced sniper rifle, damage weapon upgrade, reload speed upgrade, and 10,000 extra credits.

I noticed Wednesday night that there is yet another firmware update for the PS3 required. Turns out 3.60 is primarily for PlayStation Plus subscribers and adds cloud saving. Members can now go to their Save Data Utility option, highlight the save, press triangle, choose “copy” then “online storage” and the game will be loaded to the cloud server. Each member can store up to 150 MB of save data and load them up anytime, anywhere (assuming you’re signed in) using the same method in reverse. This is great news in the case of a hardware failure or if you like to take your games to a friend’s house. If your membership expires they’ll still save the data for six months, but you’ll have to renew before you can access it. You’ll have to wait 24 hours after the upload to pick up any copy-protected saves. The update also includes an option for all users to set a shut off timer for their idle controllers to preserve battery life. Why hasn’t this been there all the time?

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating DISSIDIA 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy for PSP on March 22nd, you can actually get started a week early. Next week, exclusively on PSN, you’ll be able to download DISSIDIA duodecim prologus Final Fantasy for $2.99. The prologue focuses on Lightning’s (FFXIII‘s main protagonist) adventures and will enhance the player’s experience of the PSP title. The prologue will have both story and arcade mode where you can unlock items that will carry over to the full PSP game. Plus, simply by buying prologus, you’ll gain FFVII‘s Aerith as an assist character. I am now so confused by the repeated typing of an insane title that I can’t even decide if this is a good thing or not.

The lead villain for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has been revealed. And it’s a woman. Odd choice for the series but I’m definitely excited to see what comes of it. I can’t even fathom what the final boss battle is going to be like if you’re fighting a woman that looks oddly like Helen Mirren. You can get more info and check out the GDC trailer over at the PlayStation Blog.

Does anyone remember Ape Escape? If you’ve been wanting more ape catching fun, it’s high time you invest in the Move. Released in December in Japan, Playstation Move Ape Escape is on its way to North America this summer through Playstation Network. The game does have multiplayer modes, but it’s unclear if this will be local or online.

I mentioned in a recent edition of VGQH that Volition had officially announced Saints Row: The Third. Details are starting to release and they’ve recently told Game Informer that the underwhelming competitive multiplayer component of the second game has been cut. In its place will be drop-in/out co-op play. This is brilliance in my opinion. The Saints Row series has always been naturally compared to GTA, and for good reason. But it’s way more over the top with a crazy, action, arcade experience to it – making it less serious than Rockstar’s franchise, but just as much fun in its own way. Considering I’ve been a loving fan of all things co-op since the original Contra, this is a fantastic change. Now I just have to find someone whose life is as empty as mine to play along with me.

I’ve been trying to follow along with the soap opera that has been LG v Sony and I thought for a moment last night that it was over. Then my wife finished reading the article to me (don’t ask, it just happens sometimes) and I realized it’s only the beginning. Via reversal of a decision in Dutch court yesterday, the 300,000 PS3 consoles that were being held up in Europe have been released. Additionally, LG has been order to pay approximately $180,000 (USD) in court fees. But it’s not over yet. Sony has yet to drop its case of LG’s cell phone patent infringement, so they’re continuing to press back claiming Sony infringed some blu-ray patent. LG’s case is claiming $150 million plus in lost revenue over the infringement and may lead to a similar blockage of US imports as well. I’ll still try to keep this up to date as things change, but it’s starting to give me a headache. When two companies make more money than some US states, do they really need to fight over an extra billion or two?

Somehow I’m actually going to leave it at that. I really should reorganize these bits so the legal brief doesn’t cap it off but I’m feeling pessimistic today and now you are too. Ha.

REVIEW: inFamous #1

Ah, the video game tie-in book… They really vary in quality, most of them can be called, well, not great. When DC Comics solicited a comic book version of the hit PS3 game inFamous, I was understandable skeptical at first. Then I gave it some thought. inFamous the game wore its comic influences on its sleeve. It was in my opinion, well written and I am eagerly anticipating the sequel. Long story short, I am glad I did, for a few reasons, and I am happy to share them with you.

First off, the game shares the same storytelling style as the game, probably due to the fact that the writer, William Harms was the writer for both. Consistency is always a good thing when it comes to cross-media adaptation. Another strength the book has is that you don’t have to have played the game to follow the story of the comic. Everything is laid out for you, even the game’s major twist. You can come in fresh and know everything you need to know about Cole, the electricity-based protagonist, Empire City, and all of that good stuff.

The art by Eric Nguyen is ok. It isn’t bad by any means, but the gritty style that’s used is not my usual cup of tea. I would have much preferred the interiors to have been done by Doug Mahnke and Jorge Gonzales, who furnished the cover. The onlt real complaint I had about the book was while this issue does a great job in getting you up to speed, it doesn’t offer much for people who already know all of this due to playing the game. In all honesty, that is a really minor point, and there is a tidbit revealed in this issue that shows someone game players are used to as being on the forces of “good” may not be now or in fact may never have been so.

If you aren’t familiar with the story, here is a brief synopsis: Cole is a courier/delivery guy. He is given a package by the mysteriously Kessler who does shadowy genetic work for the government. He sends Cole a package to deliver to himself (in more ways than one). Cole does so and it turns out it is a bomb-like device called the RaySphere and Cole is at ground zero. After the explosion, Empire City is quarantined by the government, and there are many conspiracy theories as to why. Cole recovers from a coma to find he has lightning/electricity based powers. From there, Cole uses his newfound gifts to uncover the conspiracy behind the quarantine, and finds him face to face with Kessler, who has orchestrated all of this to make Cole a stronger hero for what lies ahead. What exactly lies ahead? Well friends, it isn’t pretty.

Of course there is more to it than that, but you’ll have to pick the book up to find out the details. It is definitely worth your time and money to do so!

inFamous #1 retails for $2.99 and is available now at your local comic shop.

The Old Republic in Comics Form

This was announced this morning. Dark Horse Comics will be publishing comics that tie into the upcoming MMORPG. (You can sign up to be notified when you can preorder the game here.) I’m having reservations about playing the game, knowing that my productivity will suffer immensely, but I might be convinced to read about the goings-on in comics form.

That and the art they provided looks great.

Dark Horse Continues its Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ Series with new Miniseries The Lost Suns

03/09/2011 11:20am

MARCH 9, 2011, Milwaukie, OR—Dark Horse Comics, in collaboration with LucasArts and BioWare, is proud to announce a new chapter in Star Wars: The Old Republic, the comic series that acts as an invaluable companion to the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game of the same name. Featuring a story by BioWare’s senior creative writer, Alexander Freed, that runs concurrent to the game’s plot, The Lost Suns comes straight to you with new twists, a new mission, and a new hero!

“The Lost Suns is our chance to craft an Old Republic story we could never tell in a video game,” Freed relayed. “For readers familiar with the setting, the comic starts when the game starts and showcases events and mysteries key to the battle between Republic and Empire. For readers who’ve never heard of the game, we want to recapture the Star Wars® sense of adventure in a strange universe, where the stakes are impossibly high and treacherously personal.”

Featuring art from George Freeman (IDW’s Angel) and Dave Ross (Star Wars: The Old Republic—Blood of the Empire, Star Wars: Dark Times), with covers by Benjamin Carré (Star Wars: The Old Republic—Blood of the Empire), the five-issue miniseries focuses on a time of tense peace. Thousands of years before Darth Vader and the events of the Star Wars films, the Republic fears a second war with the Sith Empire, and only Theron Shan, son of legendary Jedi Master Satele Shan, will keep both sides at bay. He’s a spy, not a Jedi, and his newest assignment will be a true test of his skills! Find out in The Lost Suns if Theron Shan can discover the dark secrets behind the treaty that brought peace to the galaxy as he searches for Jedi Master Ngani Zho—thought lost in Sith space—while dealing with a troublesome thief, as a crew of Sith Knights begin to tighten the noose in their pursuit of Zho!

Providing key plot development for the soon-to-be-released online game Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Lost Suns from Dark Horse Comics premieres in June with an all-new story that helps unfold the actual events in the game! This unique tie-in series also marks the debut of the Sith Knights!

‘Tomb Raider’ Getting Reboot Treatment

Seems like everything these days is getting the “reboot” treatment, and it looks like everyone’s favorite sexy British archaeologist is no exception.

Producer Graham King and his company GK Films have acquired the rights to the Lara Croft franchise, which reverted back to Eidos a few years back. GK Films may not sound terribly familiar to everyone, but they are the ones behind some pretty good films as of late including the newly released Rango, as well as The Town, and The Departed. As of right now, the plan is to have Graham King himself and Tim Headington produce the first film in the rebooted franchise.

Angelina Jolie starred in the two previous big-screen adaptations made by Paramount, and with King having produced The Tourist, the Jolie-Johnny Depp thriller, some tongues were wagging about the potential for a new Jolie Raider movie.

But sources say GK Films, which has not hired a writer yet, may be looking to do a Lara Croft origin story rather continue her adventures.

According to GK Films, the goal is to “create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.” – THR

Coincidentally (or not) the Tomb Raider videogame franchise is getting the reboot treatment this year with a new console game coming out simply titled, “Tomb Raider”. In this iteration, Lara Croft has been made over into a bit younger version – ditching those trademark khaki shorts (pictured above, courtesy Game Informer). The easy bet is that this new movie franchise revolving around the character will most likely follow this latest look.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Tomb Raider games, and I thought the movies were mildly entertaining, but for some reason the idea of a production company with a strong track record like GK Films getting behind a potentially exciting franchise peaks my interest. I’m definitely open to seeing what they come up with.

No writers have been hired as of yet, but GK Films is aiming for a 2013 release date.

Video Game Quick Hits 3/8/11

It was a bit of a slow weekend for me, I burned through The Force Unleashed II and made a few more crawling steps on my second New Vegas‘ playthrough. It seems the video game news circuit also decided to relax. Still, there’s a few interesting bits here that might get you through to Friday’s update which will hopefully be more exciting.

The new world of video games has created a positive trend. Small, independent game developers have so many tools and outlets that the quality has really gone up. That boost in quality has captured the attention of major publishers who also have an outlet for smaller, high quality games with XBLA, PSN, and WiiShop. That’s what led to the relationship between Brad Borne and EA. This spring, Borne’s hit Flash game, Fancy Pants Adventures will be making its way to XBLA and PSN thanks to EA. If you missed out on this game’s Flash craze suffice to say it’s a very dynamic side scrolling platformer with an appealing art style. The console version will feature two-player co-op and plenty of special secrets. No official date or pricing has been announced.

In one of the strangest stories out of the weekend, Bungie, creators of Halo, can’t decide if it’s serious, funny, or unemployed. David Aldridge, lead network engineer, mentioned in a GDC panel that the developer is working on a “massively multiplayer action game” that will not be “WoW in space.” Supposedly it’s set for a 10 year publishing deal with Activision and planned for multiple consoles. The project is called “Tiger” internally and the game is known as Destiny. The studio then stated on their website that David was joking, but he apparently has a bizarre sense of humor that no one understands. The post on their site, of course, didn’t say what they were actually doing. My inclination is that Mr. Aldridge let a little too much cat out of the bag and the studio’s simply backpedaling. They’re surely working on something and Activision won’t settle for anything less than a title that can be exploited for a decade or more.

Venturing deeper into the world of rumor and unconfirmed reports takes me back to Rockstar Games. I mentioned last week the developer had picked up several domain names that have a distinctly GTA feel to them. On top of that, a minor league professional wrestler, Robert Esparza, recently tweeted that he’d had his body scanned for a game called Rush, coming from Rockstar. The tweet has since been deleted. This could match up with an industry casting call from February for Rush. The casting call was looking for “a weed evangelist”; “a Welsh monk/cult leader/yoga teacher…very into exploring your personal tension through gripping massage”; “an old unshaven female spiritualist”; an “annoying, wise-cracking, highly successful FBI agent”; a “neurotic soccer mom”; an illiterate “English hardman actor, 35, who acts tough but wants to do the serious work”; and someone named Nervous Jerry. These sound like GTA characters. So is Rush actually an internal codename for GTA V? That’s the theory of twitter detective Superannuation, who found all of this evidence. I don’t know this person from Adam, but he seems to know his schtick. Maybe I’m blinded by my love of the series, but I hope he’s right.

If you’ve been waiting for SOCOM 4, scheduled for April 19th, you’ll want to know the beta schedule which has just been announced. The private beta will begin next week on the 15th. Playstation Plus members will get access on March 22nd. If you bought Killzone 3, you’ll get to redeem your beta code on March 29th. Finally, the open beta will begin on April 5th. The beta will include Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink, and the new mode, Bomb Squad. Two maps will be available and all modes will have standard or classic variants. The beta will end on April 13th.

Things are looking up in the world for Lara Croft. The Tomb Raider Trilogy is coming to PS3 on March 22nd. Crystal Dynamics is hard at work on the series’ reboot, expected next year. And GK Films recently acquired the rights to the film franchise. It will be co-produced by Tim Headington and Graham King (for whom GK Films is named). Headington and King recently produced The Tourist with Angelina Jolie, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s coming back to the role. It appears they also want to reboot the series and tell an origin story for Lara. [Side note: Graham King seems to be a busy fellow. According to his imdb page he’s working on the Dark Shadows and Hugo Cabret films, and has recently completed The Rum Diary, which I’ve been hearing about for over ten years and I think is just a lie.]

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has finally gotten a release date from SquareEnix, August 23, 2011. Yeah, it’s still quite a ways away, but at least you can circle that date on your calendar now.

And that’s it for now, minor news about some possibly major titles. Come back Friday for the updates from the rest of the week.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest

Do you remember that moment as a kid when you finally beat The Legend Of Zelda. You stuck the silver arrow into the large snout of Ganon, you snagged the Triforce of Power and you walked into the next room to find the Princess Zelda awaiting you. You had finished that fateful quest when suddenly, you go back to the player select screen and find that you were not done with the game! There was a second even harder quest awaiting you, the levels were in different spots, they were harder with new puzzles to solve. You thought you had conquered the game completely and now you had even more game to play.

We play games now and wish for those days, you have just finished a good game and you wish you could play through again with different puzzles to solve, well now the Zelda franchise has done it again and with one of the greatest games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games, in fact on my top games list it made it to number 18 (Yes I have a top games list). It’s easily one of best reasons to still own a Nintendo 64 but now it’s become the best reason in my opinion to buy the new Nintendo 3DS. This game is slated to come out in June of this year and it’s going to include a Master Quest where each of the dungeons is done differently with new puzzles to solve, so if you’ve already played the game around 5 times like me or around 20 times like many Zelda fans you now have new puzzles to solve. The graphics on this game look improved as well and the menu screen will be on the bottom screen so you no longer have to pause the game to see where you are on the map. Overall this is looking to be a very good game and a must buy for any Zelda fans out there. I hadn’t really planned on picking up a 3DS but now it seems I have no choice.

There are some gameplay videos over at The Zelda Dungeon though none of them contain new footage, it just looks really cool. Also you can find the original video announcing the new Master Quest at Gameinformer.com

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/03/06/ocarina-of-time-3d-to-include-master-quest.aspx

So the real questions is, if you name yourself Link will you be able to go straight to the Master Quest?
