E3: Microsoft Leaks Halo 4!

Microsoft doesn’t present at E3 for about another 15 minutes, but anyone visiting who was visiting xbox.com around 7:30 MT this morning may have caught a glimpse of what they will be presenting – including Halo 4!

For a brief moment this morning the xbox.com was giving a recap of what Microsoft “had” presented at E3 and on that page was a mention of Halo 4!

When clicking the link though, visitors were just directed to an error page and then xbox.com was shortly reverted back to a page not containing any of this information. In short though, it looks like we will be hearing about Halo 4 at E3 this morning! (Kotaku)

You can keep up to date with all the E3 goodness, including a liveblogging of Microsoft’s E3 presentation by Zombietron right here on BSR!

In Stores This Week: Video Games

Sony PS3:
inFAMOUS 2
Kevin Van Dam Fishing

Seriously, inFAMOUS 2 is the reason you’ve been saving your money for the last few weeks. Between this and Uncharted 3 coming in fall, you have two good reasons to buy a PS3 if you haven’t already. Despite the problems Sony’s had recently, the first inFamous was one of my favorite games this console generation and I can’t be more excited for this sequel. And if you haven’t played the first game but already had a PSN account prior to April 20, 2011 you can download it free until July 3rd as part of the Welcome Back program.

There are two other games worth a look this week: Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters and Red Faction Armageddon. The first is probably just a crappy licensed title like games based on comic movies always are, but this is Big Shiny Robot! and all of us fangeeks (which is the non-gender-specific term for “fanboy”) want to play it anyway. The second looks like an interesting update for the franchise. It’s still open world, but it seems much more claustrophobic, with much of the action taking place in underground caves and chambers, as opposed to the vast, open areas of Mars in Guerrilla.

Considering those three games, this is a pretty big week. Makes me wonder why those other two games are even going to bother. But I guess somebody somewhere can’t actually get to a lake so this is the best fishing experience they’re going to get.

E3 is upon us! What are you excited for?

For gamers and tech-heads alike this week is heaven. With E3 and WWDC upon us we here at BigShinyRobot are bracing ourselves for a surge of incoming information. While we are dealing with our own bouts of gadget and game related excitement, we want to bring all the news to you. To kick off the festivities we figured we’d share a small list of what we hope to see at E3, and ask you what you’d like to see. So here goes!

  • Kill-tacular-tron:

The New Bungie Project, Super Mario 3ds, and naked..or semi-naked women, what’s a trade show without some of that?

  • Citizenbot:

Nintendo HD, and dual core android phones we can outsource our brain functions to….. The latter might be a while.

  • Roboshinobi:

What will Rockstar due to top L.A. Noire? Which game studio will get the rights to Kill Bin-Laden. Is Sony going to have a clear the air booth in regards to their recent outage? Or more accurately how will they handle the issue in a public forum. (Zombietron votes they’ll just ignore it).

  • Zombietron:

I also want to hear about Nintendo’s new console. What we can expect for the 3ds for the next few years. Where is the NGP? What titles will be ready at launch, when will it be out, and what will the price be? After that I’d like to see anything and everything there is to know about Rage. I know ID boycotted last E3, but even if they simply release a new video this week, i will be happy.

  • So there is our small list of what we’d like to see from E3, with the week coming up, keep checking back with our nightly summaries and fast information on what releases will be coming. What are you looking forward to at E3? Comment below.

Square Enix Combat Evolved Master Chief

Holy crap factory! Square Enix sent over this press release for their next line of Halo figs:

In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the HALO franchise, Square Enix Products expands the HALO action figure line beyond the successful HALO: REACH PLAY ARTS® -KAI- series in a continued collaboration with 343 Industries.

HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED PLAY ARTS -KAI- MASTER CHIEF (Envisioned by Square Enix Products) is an original take on Master Chief based on the iconic character from Halo: Combat Evolved. The robust build adds a sense of fictional reality and massiveness present in Japanese sci-fi entertainment.

In addition to HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED PLAY ARTS -KAI- MASTER CHIEF, Square Enix Products is scheduled to also release a limited edition SPARTAN MARK V (Black). Both figures are slated for a late 2011 release.

Video Game Quick Hits 6/3/11

Hello and welcome to the first edition of VGQH for June 2011. Like that really matters. The important thing is that it’s actually the last edition before this year’s E3 destroys the squishy stuff in your skull. While that could mean that this will be full of salad and no meat since the industry is saving the big news for next week, I’ve actually come across some pretty cool information.

You may have heard about Project Beachhead from Activision and have been wondering what it is. They’ve finally unveiled it as Call of Duty: Elite. While it is software, it is not actually a standalone game. It’s actually a subscription based service that tracks your CoD play across multiple platforms and games. The service has been tracking stats since the release of Black Ops in 2010. Elite doesn’t just track stats either. It also gives tips (specific to your play style, location and nature of death, typical loadout, etc.), clan support, and offers prizes for players. Prize competitions could be things like best headshot video or artistic screenshot, with prizes ranging from Starbucks gift cards to iPad 2s. The price has not been announced but it does appear there will be at least two pricing tiers, free and premium. The paid service will include leagues, clans, free Modern Warfare 3 DLC, and other benefits. You should be seeing a beta this summer, with full release in fall. [If this all looks familiar you’ve probably already been using bungie.net or Bungie Pro.]

If you enjoy online multiplayer, but not the FPS variety, you might want to get in on the Uncharted 3 beta. The beta will include two maps, the Airfield and the Chateau – both of which change throughout the round. Only having two maps won’t limit variability too much though, as it will come with nine different modes (Team Deathmatch, 3-Team Deathmatch, Team Objective, Free For All, Plunder, High Stakes, and three unidentified co-op games). Playable characters include Drake, Sully, various treasure hunters, and customizable pirates. To mix it up during matches, one minute “events” can begin to change the flow – like adding a higher point bounty to one player. The open beta will run July 4th to July 13th. You can get early access on June 28th from buying inFAMOUS 2 or joining PlayStation Plus (which you’ll have free for 30 days with the Welcome Back program).

Throttling back a bit from the ever exciting world of online multiplayer, Zombie Games (best known for Blacklight: Tango Down) has made a pretty big announcement about their next downloadable game. Partnering with Top Cow they’ll be bringing the Hunter-Killer franchise to XBLA and PSN. Very little information is available right now, but I’d expect to hear some news from E3. The game is described as being an “all out Ultras battle.”

Remember last issue when I told you it looked like Carmageddon was making a comeback? It’s true. With the franchise now back in the hands of the original developer, Stainless Games, Carmageddon: Reincarnation “will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success,” according to Neil Barnden (Executive Director and Founder for Stainless). The game is still in the early stages, but they are seeking a publisher to bring the game to your download service next year.

We haven’t heard much about Aliens: Colonial Marines since it was announced, and I still dont’ have much now. But I would expect more next week as SEGA and Gearbox have announced they will be showing it off at E3. They’ve also confirmed it for Spring 2012. Based on the enthusiasm from the developers, this looks like a must buy for any fan of the series, as well as most fans of action shooters and co-op.

If you enjoyed playing as War in Darksiders, I’ve got good news for you. Darksiders 2 is coming in 2012. In a story that runs parallel to the first game, the sequel will see players controlling a new character, Death. Danny Bilson, VP of Core Games, says they “have taken the best parts of Darksiders and improved on them with a host of new mechanics and features. You will see great things from this epic game.” You’ll find more information in the cover story for the next issue of Game Informer and you should probably pay attention for more news from E3. What I’m really curious to see is how they plan to make additional games based on Famine and Pestilence, the dullest of the Four.

There are few things more exciting than news about Batman: Arkham City. The latest bit may be the most exciting news yet. Not that playing as Batman could ever get boring, but just in case you need a little change up, Rocksteady’s just announced that you’ll be picking up as Catwoman for some of the game. Selina will have her own set of moves and weapons, including her signature whip and claws, as well as a bolo and even improv weapons like steel pipes. And this isn’t just a challenge map character like Joker was on the PS3, her story will actually comprise about 10% of the overall game. I have no idea what she’s after, but Selina Kyle is never completely selfless. She definitely has an agenda. Personally, I never thought I could get this excited to be a pussy in a Batman game.

Good news everybody! If you haven’t completely given up on Sony yet, the PlayStation Store is back. And rumors of semi-weekly updates to get it current were false. That means it’s back with a ridiculously massive update. I’m not listing everything here but I will give you some highlights: “Honest Hearts” for Fallout: New Vegas, demos for Red Faction: Armageddon and MotorStorm: Apocalypse, a full game trial for Dante’s Inferno, Oddworld: Abe’s Exxodus, Back to the Future episode 3, the Fantastic Four table for Marvel Pinball (which I love even though I’m terrible), 40 songs for Rock Band 3 (not counting plenty more from RBN), and a veritable plethora of videos, themes, avatars, etc. That’s just for PS3 too. You’ll also find plenty of new items for your PSP, particularly for Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy. Check the PlayStation Blog for a full list. Unfortunately the Welcome Back package is still getting final testing so you won’t get those benefits quite yet. There will be an additional update of new content today and updates will be back to normal starting June 8th.

If you’re not older than video games themselves, you may not remember a little game from 1982 known as Choplifter. But that’s okay. Because you’ll soon get to experience Choplifter HD on PC and PSN (with XBLA likely to follow at a later time). The game casts you as a helicopter rescue pilot working up the ranks. You’ll get a variety of helicopters in a healthy mix of real world rescues and fantasy missions (zombies, of course). Series creator Dan Gorlin is on board with inXile Entertainment’s relaunch of the franchise. You can get your rotors spinning this fall.

Speaking of old franchises being done in HD, Konami dropped a hell of a bomb yesterday, especially if you like Hideo Kojima (and who doesn’t). Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, and Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker (but not the first MGS or its Gamecube remake, Twin Snakes) are being re-released as Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. If you’ve still got your PSP save of Peace Walker, hang onto it. The HD version will connect with this in some way on PS3. But that’s not all. Zone of the Enders HD Collection is also on its way, remastering the first game and The 2nd Runner. But wait, there’s more. Konami also has plans for a Silent Hill HD Collection with remastered versions of the second and third games in the franchise. All three collections are planned for PS3 and 360 in 2012.

As a final note on E3, we’ve got the list from Square Enix on everything they’ll be showing. It’s a pretty diverse mix so you’re bound to find something to catch your eye. I can think of at least three games not on this list I would expect to them show. I mean it is Square Enix, and they’re flagship title isn’t here:

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Dead Island
  • Dungeon Siege III
  • Wakfu
  • Heroes of Ruin

It looks like that wraps this final pre-E3 issue. I’ve certainly missed something, but we’re all about to be overloaded next week anyway.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime DLC

Surprising everyone, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is dropping some new downloadable content for their game today. A podcast or two ago, I had reviewed this arcade title giving it some pretty unkind marks. Overall I felt let down as the game seemed to be a cash grab.

At first I wondered if I was alone in this feeling. Maybe my expectations were too high? But that would seem odd since I went in with the knowledge that this was an arcade game. And then I started reading the comments on the FaceBook fanpage regaurding this game:

The risks of Social Marketing… You are on the front lines. It’s hard to hide those black eyes when your fans give you a good right hook in front of the world wide web. Especially when it’s not just one fan, but the majority.

Video Game Quick Hits 5/31/11

It’s the last edition of VGQH for May. It’s certainly been a wild month, what with the continuing PSN soap opera and the release of LA Noire, sure to be one of the top games of the year (despite any overheating issues it may cause). Now we’re leading into June, meaning E3 and the start of the summer game releases, so the newsfeed isn’t likely to go quiet anytime soon.

What is that? It’s a screenshot from the trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot. Square Enix isn’t releasing the trailer until June 3rd, but they have released a couple screens. Tomb Raider fan detectives have been trying to decipher the numbers and discern every little detail they can from this shot. The most common theory I’ve seen is the numbers are coordinates, pointing to the Dragon’s Triangle south of Japan. Secondly, the tea mug has connections with Artemis, the Greek goddess. There’s history with Artemis in the franchise so that could be a major clue. If deciphering those clues isn’t your thing though, check this screen shot to get a feel for the mood of the game:

The Nintendo Wii had the possibility of a great game in 2009 with House of the Dead: Overkill. It got good reviews, but didn’t gain much sales traction with the family-friendly console’s owners. SEGA is trying again, by making some additions and bringing it to PS3. This extended cut will add two more levels, HD, 3D, and Move support. It may be too little too late, but this could give the title a second life. There are hardcore gamers who own Wiis, but most of them would have preferred this one on an HD console from the get-go. The grandparents who bought a Wii surely passed on it.

Bethesda’s big online action title Brink came out a few weeks ago and has been plagued by lag and a tenuous online service. Good news for the early adopters, a patch is on the way, as well as a thank you gift from the developers. “Agent of Change” will be available for free in June. This add-on will increase the level cap to 24 and include a host of stuff: two new maps (Founders’ Tower, Labs), five player abilities (Field Regen Unit, Napalm Grenade, Pyro Mine, Tactical Scanner, and UAV), two weapon attachments (Bayonet, Weapon Shield), and two character outfits (Sad Punk, Limey). That sounds like a pretty robust package for no charge.

The recent announcement of Hitman: Absolution has many fans shaking in anticipation, while many others are shaking their heads at the memory of the crushing difficulty and trials of patience it took to get the perfect kill. The series has always provided interesting ways to kill via stealth or slaughter. The gunplay in shootouts could be problematic, but sometimes it was so annoying to find the right mix of disguise and “accidental” explosions that the only way to complete it was to go in with Ballers blazing and slaughter everything in the way. IO Interactive’s Game Director, Tore Blystad, has a few comments about this dichotomy and what to expect of it in the next game.

The Hitman games of the past have been very hardcore. Even though the fantasy of the Hitman universe has a very universal appeal, the games have been so difficult to play, that it’s been more of an acquired taste.

The biggest challenge that we had with this game was to make it much broader in every sense, so that it was easier to play and more accessible, but still retain a very strong, hardcore side as well. We don’t want to alienate any of our fans who have been extremely loyal for so many years.

That doesn’t actually tell us much about what will change, but it does tell us that they are trying to appease long time fans and lower the bar for entry to the series. My theory is that it will be much like Blood Money‘s gameplay. You had the option on every job for 47 to get away scot-free making the kill look like an accident. It was also possible to perform the assassination in a more grandiose fashion, but at significant penalty. If they take away the penalty, it makes it a fun puzzle challenge to get the “perfect” kill, but still makes the game enjoyable if you prefer using your twin .45s.

In the growing trend of collector editions, you can add one more to the list. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll definitely want the expanded version of Driver: San Francisco. While the announcement of a collector’s edition has been known for some time, Ubisoft has just recently revealed what the package includes. Not only will you get a replica model of the 1970 Dodge Challenger, it also comes with a collectibles map, comic book, three in-game cars (’63 Aston Martin DB5, ’66 Shelby Cobra 427, and ’72 Lamborghini Miura) and four in-game challenges (Mass Chase, Relay Race, Russian Hills Racers and Taxi). I like the mix of real world and in-game items, plus the collectibles map will be much handier than buying a guide or playing with your laptop open the whole time.

One of the first games I’ve seen confirmed as playable at E3 is Square Enix’s Heroes of Ruin for the 3DS. In what sounds like a classic RPG synopsis, “four unlikely heroes [are] brought together to form a fearsome alliance.” Extra features for the game go far beyond classic RPG tropes. The game will use “StreetPass to create an inventive in-game ‘Traders’ Network’ where players can buy and sell rare and powerful items picked up in battle. With an ever-changing inventory updated from each player passed in public, character strengths and abilities can be greatly enhanced by accessing items from other players’ games.” You’ll also be able to use your device’s SpotPass to gain items or challenges via Wi-Fi. In regular gameplay, you can adventure alone or with friends using drop-in/out co-op. It’s scheduled for an early 2012 release.

Ready for some big DLC news on one of the biggest recent releases? All of L.A. Noire‘s preorder bonuses you got at various retailers will become available to the late arrivals at a fee. Which also means you can pick up the special items you didn’t get from the other store. The Nicholson Electroplating Arson Case and Reefer Madness Vice Case will be available June 21 and July 12, respectively. The two preorder cases will be $3.99 each. The other two extra cases, A Slip of the Tongue and The Naked City, are also currently available for $3.99. Other DLC includes the Badge Pursuit Challenge ($1.99), the Broderick suit ($0.99), Sharpshooter Detective suit ($0.99), and Chicago Piano (free). According to my math that means about $20 for the whole package. And here’s the great news. Starting today, for a limited time you’ll get the whole kit at half price ($9.99) with the Rockstar Pass. If you don’t jump on it prior to June 14th, you’ll still get a great deal buying the Pass for $11.99.

Oh yeah, that “starting today” thing currently only applies to XBox 360 because the PlayStation Store is still down. Which brings me to Sony’s oddly-worded press release about the the restoration of the remaining PSN services: “Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week.” That’s not so oddly worded, except that it was released on May 31st, a Tuesday, and also the date they had previously confirmed for the actual restoration. So, are they saying the Store and Qriocity services will be back today as planned, or did they just announce a delay to June 4th without actually saying so? Considering how long the service has been gone, and the gravity of the attack, I suppose four more days goes in the “could be worse” category.

That wraps May I guess. It’s a little bit of a shame that I couldn’t end it with some of my most-anticipated games, Mass Effect 3 and Arkham City. But fret not, E3 is coming!

Video Game Quick Hits 5/27/11

It appears I need to start with an apology. I reported in the last couple of issues that the PlayStation Store was set to return on Tuesday. That did not happen. I’ve since picked up from Sony that the plan has always been to return the store by the end of the month. I’m sorry. It seems I’ve trusted the wrong source on that one. I’m not the only one either. Plenty of outlets had picked up on the bi-weekly update plan just as I did.

Sony has announced a scheduled PSN outage on May 31st, the date previously planned for restoration of all services. Sony has not said that this maintenance outage will bring back the store or anything else, but that seems reasonable.

The latest game casualty of the PSN debacle is DiRT 3. Codemasters included an “online pass” function for the game, as is growing more popular among publishers. A new retail copy of the game includes a code to redeem the pass for free on the PlayStation Store (where it will also be available for purchase by renters or used game buyers). But, since the store isn’t up yet, those passes cannot be redeemed. This means the game is effectively offline only on PS3 until the store returns.

In non-gaming but Sony-related news, it appears the assholes hackers have not finished their mission. The Greek site for Sony Music Entertainment was shut down after having some user information compromised (no credit card numbers, thankfully). Additionally, various Sony sites in three other countries have also been attacked. I’d really like to know what it is the hackers hope to accomplish with these assaults. If it’s really about the “other OS” option for PS3 they sure haven’t proven their point very well. All they’ve shown is that Sony’s security has been lax, and that hackers are criminals. I certainly hope they aren’t trying to win my sympathy by stealing my credit card number and crippling my online service for a month.

So, on to better news:

Details about Assassin’s Creed: Revelations have been coming at a slow but steady pace. Since we already know we’ll be playing as Ezio, Altair, and Desmond, we need to know where their adventures will take us. It seems Ezio will be heading to new territory, though it’s familiar to the player. His adventures will begin and end in the Assassin’s Fortress in Masyaf. The main focus of Ezio’s tale, however, will be the four districts of Constantinople (Istanbul), Turkey. Each of the four districts (Beyazid, Constantin, Galata, and Imperial) have their own visual style. Additionally, you’ll be taking the hero to the underground Templar stronghold, Cappadocia. For multiplayer fans, get ready to head to Rhodes, a fortified island full of castles. This sounds exciting. Now where do we take Altair and Desmond? Also, it seems the game has been confirmed for November 15, 2011.

Fans of sports games have probably noticed that I don’t tend discuss their genre often in VGQH. I have a hard time getting excited about annual roster updates but I do enjoy a good football or hockey game every few years. It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a hockey game, but I’m starting to consider NHL 12 from EA. The game has just been confirmed for release on September 12. It features an updated “Be a Pro” mode as well as a new physics engine, Full Contact. The new engine means everything (glass, helmets, nets, etc.) reacts in a realistic fashion. If you get physical with the goalie, he’ll return the favor. A new in-game presentation and Action Tracker means more visual excitement as well.

Now we move from a confirmed release date to another delay. And, really, what’s a week of video game news without a delay? Take Two has released a new financial report showing Spec Ops: The Line has been pushed back into the first half of fiscal 2013 (April 2012-March 2013). It was previously expected to ship this fall. Whether this is a monetary decision, or a technical delay is unclear.

In the same report, Bioshock Infinite is still set for 2012. And to celebrate that fact, a new screenshot:

Sticking with Take Two for the moment, contracts have been renewed with the Housers (Sam and Dan) and and Leslie Benzies, key personnel at Rockstar. This bodes well for the still unannounced GTA V. With offers to purchase Take Two still outstanding, I’m curious whether the trio had any opt-out clauses included in the contract.

The latest Mortal Kombat game is satisfying the old school fighting game addiction on all fronts. Except, perhaps, for those who really love the old costumes. Enter the DLC package coming in two weeks. The three klassic fatalities that were available for preorder will be coming to the Marketplace and PS Store (assuming it returns in a timely manner) along with “seven” klassic kostumes. It’s actually only two costumes in range of colors, the ninja suit (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, etc.) and the girl outfit (Kitana and company). Most, but not all, of those costumes were also available through a combination of preordering or buying special editions as well. The costumes and fatalities appear to be one DLC package, though no price has been set.

Since the Mortal Kombat story was vaguely related to collector’s editions, I’ll use my poor transition skills to lead into the announcement of a collector’s edition for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It’s a fairly standard collector’s edition, with a fancy box, soundtrack CD, and art book. The set of 25 character cards and replica Purity Seal make up the game specific portion of the set.

Fans of DeathSpank rejoice. A new game in the series is on its way this summer for 360, PC, and PSN. Although creator Ron Gilbert is no longer with the team, DeathSpank: The Baconing seems to have all of the zany adventure and humor you’ve come to enjoy. The title features improvements in combat and a new sidekick (Bob from Marketing) with a taste for the flesh of his enemies. I’ve known about the series since its launch, but have somehow never actually played it. I think I have to get this one based solely on the fact that Bacon. Is. Awesome!!! I love bacon.

If zany combat and bacon aren’t your thing, maybe you like flight sims? I’ve tried a few flight simulator games over the years and they just never caught my fancy, so I’m honestly not sure how big of a deal it is that Konami has a World War II flight game coming. Birds of Steel will have 20 historical missions (Midway, Guadalcanal, etc.) and even more fictitious ones. You’ll also have over 100 different, damage susceptible airplanes to fly. Co-op missions, unsure if local or online, will also be featured. While this isn’t my typical game, it does look pretty good for those that enjoy the genre.

As if Fall 2011 isn’t looking too packed with games already, the latest announcement will perk up the sensors of almost all the ‘bot writers here at Big Shiny Robot!. Disney Universe appears to be a cross between Little Big Planet, Kingdom Hearts and the LEGO games. Up to four players control some odd blue creatures that look suspiciously like Sackboy. Each character can dress up in a Disney/Pixar character suit (which levels up for additional benefits) to solve puzzles and beat up enemies. I know that sounds pretty vague, but it’s all I’ve got for now. Disney has only confirmed the Stitch, TRON, Alice, and Mike (Monsters, Inc.) costumes so far. But I can recognize a few more in the limited screen shots available. I definitely see Pumbaa and Nemo, plus the one-eyed pink monster that Mike likes but whose name I can’t remember. Levels are Disney worlds, as expected. Clearly designed for families, the game is not limited to four year old difficulty, nor will it be too difficult for your youngling. The game features a difficulty auto adjust, shifting the challenge level based on how well the player is doing. Considering the family nature of the game, I’m shocked it’s not coming to Wii. It is coming to PC, 360, and PS3. I may not be the target demographic, but I’ll be playing it anyway.

At long last, Australia is possibly creating an adult rating for video games, R18+. The country has been notoriously stingy with adult themes in games in the past. While some games were neutered to allow the censored version to be sold in the country, many others were simply banned. The initial draft guidelines seem pretty reasonable. It’s still technically possible for games to be banned, mostly for overt sex of a pornographic nature (but not simulated sex) or violence that “offends against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that it should not be classified.” This could be construed as vague, but it’s also the general standard for films. Slowly slicing a child into pieces won’t be allowed, but other graphic representations of death typical to gaming is acceptable. The Australian government will vote whether to recognize these guidleines and create the rating when it reconvenes in July. Good news for our Aussie friends, like Pas from the Big Shiny Robot! forums.

EA’s remake of Syndicate seems to be all but confirmed with the recent leak of some of the script. I won’t be reading it or spoiling it here, but if you feel you must, you can see it over on Siliconera. Obviously we won’t have release dates or schedules until an official announcement from EA or Starbreeze Studios.

With E3 coming up in the second week of June we’re hitting one of the hottest times of the year in gaming news. As expected, studios are starting to make small announcements to build anticipation for the three day, press only event. Ubisoft, celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, has already announced the featured games. It’s quite the list too (and I hope you like colons): Assassins’ Creed: Revelations, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Driver: San Francisco, From Dust, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Rayman Origins, and Rocksmith.

While Ubisoft is taking the glass haf full approach, Hideo Kojima is only announceing what you won’t be seeing at E3, Metal Gear Solid 5 or the NGP port of MGS4. He did say to expect some surprises at the pre-event. The most likely games to be seen from Kojima-san’s studio will be Metal Gear Solid: Rising and the unnamed NGP game.

I’ll close today’s edition with that pre-E3 info. Expect more on Tuesday and stay tuned for more news on the big event. We’ll do our best to keep you up to date on all of the major happenings and I’ll recap anything we missed in VGQH.

TRAILER: Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time 3DS

The full Japanese trailer is out for Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. Despite having played this game many times on my Nintendo 64, I have to admit that this trailer has me excited to play the game again on the new console. The graphics have been fully re-mastered and enhanced (and look great!). You’ll also have the new option of controlling Link’s slingshot with the gyro-sensor function on the 3DS. Master Quest will come included, so you can scale up the difficulty level if you only had the chance to play the original version back on the N64.

Watch this stunning new trailer from Nintendo:

The Japanese release date is set for June 16th, 2011 at 4,800 JPY (About USD $50). The US Release date is June 19th and it looks like our retail price will be USD $40. Pre-orders are already available at local retailers and Amazon.
