What Beavis and Butt-Head Would Look Like In Real Life

If you’ve ever wondered what Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head might look like in real life, well, you can stop wondering and start having nightmares.

Makeup effects artist Kevin Kirkpatrick (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer, The Avengers) created these sculptures of these icons and there’s little denying that, while these are certainly creepy, he nailed it.

TRAILER: Capcom Announces ‘Resident Evil 6’

Today Capcom officially announced that Resident Evil 6 is in production. The tentative launch date is November 20, 2012 and the game will be releasing for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The trailer itself looks absolutely incredible! The combat system seems to have some added action-heroesque maneuvering that could put a real spin into the franchise. The HD announcement trailer is 2 minutes of heart-thumping awesome. I hope this game hits on time, and I hope it lives up to buzz and expectation, could make for a Holiday blockbuster like no other.

A blog on Capcom Unity had the following quote to describe the upcoming title.

“It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”

More information is on the way, so be sure to follow @RE_Games on Twitter as well as the series’ Facebook page. Pre-orders are already underway in the Capcom Store (360, PS3), with Amazon, GameStop and Best Buy details coming very soon

Excited? I sure as hell am. Thoughts below!

Anonymous Responds to Removal of Megaupload

Anonymous has quite the reputation on the Internet, and its members have been very busy today.  In response to the US Government’s shut-down of file-sharing site Megaupload.com, Anonymous has launched an attack on the Department of Justice website, as well as The Universal Music Group, MPAA,  copyright.gov, and there have been claims that whitehouse.gov is next on their list.

According to Neowin.net, Twitter is actively removing any tweets related to #oppayback and #opmegaupload.  An example of the limitations of freedom of speech?  Or the prevention of criminal plots?  No doubt the original founding fathers had no idea that such a thing as the Internet would exist when they wrote the Bill of Rights.  But where to draw the line?

Megaupload.com is one of the world’s most popular file-sharing websites, but the site is now down with several of its employees arrested and others at large.  What makes this site so unique is the endorsements it received from celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Alicia Keyes. Artists are the ones most heavily affected by piracy, so it would seem surprising that they would endorse it (though Keyes’ husband is listed as CEO).  However, the site claims that the “vast majority of Mega’s Internet traffic is legitimate.”  What is also intriguing is that this shut-down occurs the day after many high-profile websites shut down in protest of the law that would allow this type of action—SOPA.

And now there’s war on the Internet.  The government vs. Anonymous vs. pirates vs. people like you and me who just want to surf in peace.

This story continues to develop as the net cast by Anonymous seems to capture more and more websites, and who knows what the coming days hold?  It would appear a gauntlet has been thrown.

‘Twilight’ May Not Be Over After ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’

It appears that Lions Gate isn’t going to be done bleeding the Twitards of all their money after the final movie, Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits theaters later this year on November 16.

F$&%.

Lions Gate CEO Jon Feltheimer had this to say to the Los Angeles Times:

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so.'”

One person close to the acquisition deal but not authorized to speak publicly suggested that because Lions Gate, unlike Summit, has a television production unit, it could adapt “Twilight” for the small screen.

Double f%&$.

Of course, financially this makes sense to Lions Gate to continue on with a franchise that pulls in hundreds-of-millions of dollars – but it doesn’t disappoint me any less as I was hoping to see this awful franchise just die off after the last movie. Why not keep shoveling film making garbage adapted from literary garbage down the throats of those who want it if it means truck loads of money for the studios (the “fresh rating” of the Twilight films in order on Rotten Tomatoes are 49%, 49%, 28% and 25% respectively)? And of course, what other female role model is going to be available to young girls than one who wants to just kill herself if she can’t be with the glittery vampire she loves if this franchise comes to an end? Remember girls, you are nothing if you don’t have a man who loves you, impregnates you with a mutant baby, and gives you a c-section with his teeth.

In any case, The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, is directed by Gary Ross, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.

Mexicus Prime and Arse-bot’s Random Comic Review: Flaming Carrot Comics #25

Mexicus Prime is back to writing duties here at BSR after a hiatus of spending six months on a beach in Cancun in a tiger speedo (an actually speedo made from a tiger pelt), drunk off of mojitos! A few times each month Mexicus Prime will be teaming up with another member of BSR to review a completely random comic. Top or bottom of the pile; first, last or middle issue of a story arc – literally anything he can get his hands on!

DARK HORSE COMICS

FLAMING CARROT COMICS # 25

ART & STORY: BOB BURDEN

Mexicus Prime-

Wow! What a funny comic book! Flaming Carrot Comics #25 has the same quirky comedy that can be found now-a-days in a DEADPOOL MAX (Deadpool & Hydra Bob buddy comic) title, but without the profanity or sex. From the beginning page of the book, you read about the Flaming Carrot and how he got to be a super hero (well sorta). Next you’re given a small glimpse into Raphael’s (TMNT) life studying, or rather trying to, and deciding to go out on the town to learn about “Adult Behavior”. From there on out you have a very fun, buddy-comic that may be immature to the casual reader, but really funny for those who can appreciate brainless comedy.

I didn’t mind the artwork, but I wouldn’t say it drives the story; black and white with minute details here and there. At times the bunched panels had arrows to direct the reader on where to go next – a small gripe, but again, I’d like to stress that this was very enjoyable and I’m kicking myself in the ass that I haven’t collecting these comics in the past!

Arse-bot-

I didn’t believe Mr. Prime when he first handed over issue 25 of Flaming Carrot Comics and told me that it was incredibly funny. The prior week we had stumbled upon this issue – which is a cross-over with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – and thought it looked like the dumbest thing we had ever seen. A guy with a giant flaming carrot “mask” on wearing flippers teaming up with Raphael from the TMNT?! Seriously?!

Oh how wrong we were. There are few comic books that I have read that have made me audibly lauch as I read them, Flaming Carrot Comics #25 is now on that list. The very first page explaining the Flaming Carrot’s origin story had me completely hooked:

Having read 5,000 comics in a single sitting to win a bet . . . . . This poor man suffered brain damage and appeared directly thereafter as – – – – THE FLAMING CARROT! CHAMPION OF JUSTICE! . . . MASTER OF ADVENTURE! . . . DREADNOUGHT OF CHICANERY! . . .

This cross-over adventure follows Raphael as he ventures out to find out what it means to be an adult and stumbles across the Flaming Carrot. An adventure of course ensues and Raphael ends up coming down with a case of amnesia, so the Flaming Carrot gives him a new superhero identity, The Dark Avenger – armed with toilet plungers and a utility belt made of band-aid cases sewn together. Much like Mexicus Prime, I don’t want to give too much of the plot or punch lines away, as I think this comic is at its best when you don’t know what to expect and I would hate to rob the readers of that. I assure you though, this comic book is hilarious and very much worth your time!

Burden’s art isn’t “amazing”, but his style fits this story very well in black and white. Really, if I were to name my only complaint about his style it’s that the Ninja Turtles’ eyes look perpetually closed – but that’s just a nit-picky gripe. Burden pens a story filled with humor that is both subtle and slapstick that is sure to make you laugh out loud right from the start.

Flaming Carrot Comics #25 is the first issue in a three-issue arc and both myself and Mexicus Prime encourage you to scour your local comic shop to find these issues and pick them up!

Bone Gets a Writer and Director

One of my favorite comic book properties is Bone. Jeff Smith’s indie comic sensation is one of the single best examples of simple, elegant sequential storytelling that somehow bends influence equally from sources as widely different as Calvin and Hobbes and The Lord of the Rings.

It’s a fantastic story for kids and adults alike, charming and epic in equal parts, it’s like a Pixar film. It works on every level for every audience.

They’ve been trying to make movies from the material (and it would take at least three) for a while now. The most notable attempt was when Nickelodeon was trying to do it and idiotic studio execs decided they wanted a Britney Spears song on the soundtrack to help in marketing. This was quite firmly nixed by the creative types and we haven’t heard much about the project since.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has acquired the rights and has assigned Patrick Sean Smith on script duties and PJ Hogan to direct. Hogan has directed the live action Peter Pan film from about 10 years back, as well as a bunch of other stuff that doesn’t exactly scream “He’d be perfect for Bone!”

The writer is behind a show called ‘Greek’ for ABC family.

The story follows the three Bone cousins, chased out of their hometown, but looking for a way back. In the meantime, they get drafted in a war that’s been slowly coming to a boil for a generation. I can’t recommend the books highly enough.

There’s no word in the article whether or not this is a standalone film or a proposed trilogy, as it should be. There’s also no word whether or not it will be animation, live-action, or a hybrid of the two. After seeing dreck like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Smurfs coming out, I think studios might be placing safe odds on the live-action/animation combination, not realizing that this source material demands a lot more reverence than those franchises. It also has a much wider appeal.

I hope it comes out well. This is one of my favorite series and I like it more than the source material of Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia combined.

If you haven’t read this series, now is the time. You can get the one-volume black and white edition for $25 on Amazon, or you can get the colorized Scholastic versions for about $7 each (there are 9). Either way, you’re in for a treat.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Birthday

Stories of revenge have always stirred my dark heart, and one of my favorite Edgar Allan Poe stories is “The Cask of Amontillado.”  But his genius does not stop there.  Poe is master of the macabre, and his tales have entranced readers for over a century.  Today marks what would have been his 203rd birthday, and I think we should all have some cake in his honor.  (After all, what is a birthday without cake?)

This year is a bit more exciting than most, however.  Poe will actually appear in the upcoming film The Raven starring John Cusack.  It is a fictional depiction of the late author, and the plot centers around recent murders that have been based on some of Poe’s darker stories.  The trailer looks incredible, and I hope that the best parts of the movie haven’t been shown already.  It seems it’s a blend of horror, mystery, suspense, and period drama.  There may even be some romance, as well.  Combining Poe and a mystery is a logical move—his “Murders in the Rue Morgue” is known as the first detective story.  Without Poe we may not have had Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew.  The horror . . . the horror.

One mystery that may never be solved is that of the person known only as the “Poe Toaster.” Each year on Poe’s birthday (with the exception of the last two years), a man dressed in black wearing a wide-brimmed hat leaves three roses and cognac at the author’s grave.  This tradition has taken place for decades, but the identity of the man remains unknown, as well as why he hasn’t returned.  Also unknown is whether a single person has performed the “toast” all these years.  Poe fans will stand vigil one last time, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mystery man, but if he fails to show, then they plan to acknowledge that he is “nevermore.”

Even the exact cause of Poe’s death remains unknown.  Over the years I’ve heard theories from rabies to opium to binge drinking, but his final days are shrouded in shadow.  No matter how he died, his stories continue to endure, shocking and horrifying us with their vivid imagery and dark content.  Happy birthday, Edgar.

PREVIEWS: The Clone Wars 4.15 – “Deception”

This episode looks to be very dark. One of the best things this show has done over the years is show us Anakin’s slow slipping to the dark side. Losing his master (as all the trailers have intimated) would do more to cause than anything I can imagine short of the events of Episode III.

From the press release:

When the Jedi learn of a Separatist plot to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine, one of them must go deep undercover as a hardened criminal to extract information from the conspirators. To alleviate all suspicions and fit seamlessly into a high security Republic prison, a Jedi must die! But not everything is what it seems in The Clone Wars. Witness the “Deception” – an all-new episode – which features the return of the series’ most memorable villains behind bars: Cad Bane, Boba Fett and Bossk, airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT Friday, January 20th on Cartoon Network.

Blackout SOPA Begins Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the protest of Congress’ proposed SOPA and PIPA vote. This legislation brought forward by a special committee to enforce the policing of piracy, would also almost certainly infringe on our free speech. To show solidarity against this type of legislation websites such as BigShinyRobot! are blacking out for 12 hours. Although voting on SOPA and PIPA has been delayed it is still legislation that exists, and has a great possibility of being made law. This is an act of fear from our Congress, a knee jerk reaction to a product they simply do not understand. The people have a voice and allowing ideas like SOPA and PIPA to be entertained among our elected “leadership” is one step away from giving them full control of all media resources.

SOPA is a guise to gain control over one of the few truly free areas of expression we hold. SOPA is the perfect example of fixing an issue that is simply misunderstood. Piracy is not a legal problem, it is a customer service problem. Companies like Valve, Apple, Amazon, and many others have come to realize that digital distribution is more affordable, more convenient, and in higher demand than physical format. If more companies would have this realization and join the future of media delivery this discussion would not be entertained.

We here are BigShinyRobot.com have been given the opportunity to share what we love with the world freely. We spend our time discussing comics, movies, video games, and anything that we can tie to our nerdy lifestyles. SOPA stands to threaten what we have built into a livelihood and lifestyle. Tomorrow along with our blackout you will assuredly see Facebook updates and tweets sharing our beliefs. Many sites will be joining us in this blackout, and if you run or write for a site that is undecided please join the protest. We encourage you our readers to share your voice and utilize the hashtag #blackoutsopa to support this movement.

Please note we are not alone in our blackout.

Wikipedia, Reddit, and many others will be joining us.

Some things are worth fighting for, and this definitely is. See you on Thursday.
