Marvel Preview Friday 09/12

Each week, Marvel is kind enough to provide us with a pile of comics for early preview and review. Every Friday we bring you previews of a few select comics from what Marvel sends us. Enjoy this weeks Marvel previews!

Age of the Sentry #1
Two tales for the price of one! This mini series kicks off with Scout, Lindy-Lee, and Watchdog having to travel back in time to find out how Rob Reynolds became the Sentry to save his life! Also, two of the Golden Guardian’s villains team up to devise a way to steal his powers of a million exploding suns! This is so action packed Marvel only let us show you 4 pages!

Marvel Apes #2
*Sigh* Yeah. They did a second issue, looks like they are going to finish this thing out. But hey! At lease Marvel is redeeming itself by that kick-ass noir series later this year! We’ll see if my morbid curiosity and occasional self-hatred will bring me to read the second issue and bring you a review on Sunday…

Mighty Avengers #18
More Mighty Avengers/Secret Invasion goodness in the latest issue! Nick Fury continues to gather his new team of secret warriors to kick a lot of Skrull ass! Enjoy this six page preview and then go pick this one up!

Moon Knight #22
The Death of Marc Spector saga continues in issue #22! The Thunderbolts are on his tail, they know who Moon Knight is, they know where he lives, and Norman Osborn is leading the charge! My guess is that if you check back here on Sunday Swank-mo-tron will have an awesome review of this one for you!

Uncanny X-Men #502
The team starts a full on assault on the Cult for the fate of San Francisco! Also, find out about Nightcrawler’s extracurricular activities and if you’ve ever wondered what Wolvie listens to while working on a car, you’ll have to wonder no more!

That’s it for Marvel previews this week! You can pick up all these at your local comic shop on Wednesday, September 17 along with much, much more good stuff coming out! As always we keep you up to date on our New Comics page of what’s arriving on Wednesdays!

Because vending machines are robots too!

What is This Mysterious Image?

I have no clue either, but I guess we will find out sometime tomorrow after Marvel makes their presentation at the Diamond Retailer Summit tonight! We will certainly keep you posted!

The Merc With a Mouth is back in his own ongoing series in Deadpool #1 as he dives right into the middle of Secret Invasion! Be sure to check this badass out as he kicks some Skrull balls (if they have them, I guess).

Civil War: House of M #1
Ever wonder exactly how Magneto came to power in House of M? Well, you’ll now be able to find out in this new limited series chronicling the events that lead to Magneto’s rise to power culminating in a fight against Apocalypse for leadership over all mutants!

Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers #3
The Runaways and the Young Avengers are split up, but can they come together to help stop the invasion? Find this out along with the fate of Hulkling in the climax of this mini-series!

Ultimate Origins #4
Ultimate Origins continues on and answers even more questions in the Ultimate Universe! How did Nick Fury become Nick Fury? How did the Hulk become the Hulk? And what does young Peter Parker have to do with it all? Be sure not to miss this one!

That’s it for Marvel previews this week! If you are interested in any of the titles previewed they will be available at your local comic shops on Wednesday! Have a good weekend!

MAD Magazine Political Coverage, Sarah Palin Edition

This originally appeared on the Huffington Post, where Swank-mo-tron is a contributor:

The usual gang of idiots over at MAD Magazine have once again offered Huffington Post readers the first look at some of their political coverage from the issue that hits stands October 14th.

Last month they gave us a look at movie posters featuring Obama and McCain, but this time they’ve set their sights squarely on Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Just in time for her speech at the RNC, Sarah Palin is laughed at by the editors of MAD and the readers of Huffington Post:

Be sure to check out the fine print on the posters. It’s all a disgustingly accurate laugh-riot.

Marvel Preview Friday – 8/29

Every week, Marvel is kind enough to provide us with a pile of comics for early preview and review. Every Friday we will be bringing you previews of a few select comics from what Marvel sends us. So, without further delay I’m proud to give you Big Shiny Robot’s first Marvel Preview Friday!

Secret Invasion: Front Line #3Secret Invasion: Front Line #3
The Secret Invasion is happening all around them, and you can experience it through their eyes. Join the average people on the streets as they struggle to survive as mayhem happens all around them!

Venom: Dark Origin #2
We continue to witness the evolution from Eddie Brock to Venom in this limited series. Issue #1 got off to a little of a slow start, so hopefully we see a little more action as Eddie pursues a hot news tip from the Sin Eater! Catch an early review of Venom: Dark Origin #2 right here at BSR! on Sunday!

Marvel Apes #1
Since I already hate this, I have already ranted about this in previous posts. So just know that all this “feces flingin’ fun” (Marvel’s words, not mine) goes down next week and you can come back here to BSR! on Sunday for a roundtable review.

X-Men: Manifest Destiny #1 (of 4)
With the mansion in Westchester destroyed the X-Men are moving to San Francisco! Find out what changes, besides locale, are in store for the X-Men as they move across country! Each issue will contain multiple stories about the X-Men adapting to their new status quo!

Daredevil #111
I’m not sure how many times we’ve mentioned here at BSR! that you need to be reading Daredevil right now, but you should be. Brubaker’s work on Daredevil makes any Crime/Action/Drama show on TV look like it belongs on the Disney Channel, it’s that good. The mysterious Lady Bullseye comes into the picture in this ish and I’m sure it will be awesome!

That’s it for previews this week! Hopefully you got a little taste for something you may not have picked up and are now interested in checking out! All of the comics previewed above will be available at your local comic shop next Wednesday, with the exception of Daredevil #111 which is an advanced preview, it won’t hit shelves until September 24. Be sure to be back here on Sunday for reviews of some of the titles previewed today, along with possibly a few others. Have a great weekend!

Game Demo Reviews “Bionic Commando” “1942” “The Force Unleashed”

I downloaded a few game demo’s from PSN tonight, and I thought I would just say a few things about each game.

First up is “Bionic Commando Rearmed”

This is a direct remake of the original Bionic Command, except for that it is 2.5D HD graphics and they have added something called challenge rooms. The Challenge rooms are basically the same thing as MGS VR trainings, your complete times for each of the challenges are sent to a leader board. The two challenges on the demo were really fun and simple, I can only assume they get better with the full version.  If you got the time, I recommend buying this, at $10 it is cheap and fun.

Next up, “1942 joint Strike”

This is another remake of the original, but it has enhanced graphics (2.5D looks HD quality), more game play, difficulty settings, and options for aircraft and super bombs. I loved this game as a kid, and it is even better now. By the time I finished the demo, I had already decided to purchase it, it is also $10, this is what video games are all about.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Well I hate to admit it, but this game actually seems pretty fun. Sort of a mix between God of War and Soul Reaver. You play a sith apprentice to Darth Vader. Like most things Star Wars, I am going to start out with what I don’t like about it. The first thing I don’t like is that your character looks so ordinary. The next thing I don’t like was the slogan in the game trailer “May the force blow your mind.”
I think if I had more free time I would actually want to play through this game. The controls are deceptively easy, and you get to kill a bunch of people, in a bunch of different ways. (The death animation is nowhere near revolutionary, in fact it is kind of a let down how lame it is.) It seems to be surprisingly challenging for a Star Wars game. All in all it looks good and is fun, I would by it if I were rich and bored.

Last up, and most unfortunately “Hail to the Chimp”

I downloaded this game on a lark. I said to myself, it will be funny to review a demo of a game called Hail to the Chimp. Turns out, it is just stupid and boring, not even worth one laugh. Essentially you pick an animal, and run for president, there are several different mini-games (That are all almost the same, the main objective in all of them is to literally collect clams) and you play them to become president. This is worse then a direct remake of pong, and I say that with a heavy heart. You see my robot father was an Atari 3000.

PREVIEW: Mighty Avengers #18

Marvel has provided a preview of Mighty Avengers #18! Check it out when it hits shelves on September 17th!

The blockbuster comic book event of year continues as fans, retailers and critics agree—Secret Invasion is a smash hit! Secret Invasion has everyone asking “Who do you trust?” as the fate of the Marvel Universe lies in the hands of the shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls. Join Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors as they take the fight to the Skrulls in Mighty Avengers #18! Months ago, an underground Nick Fury saw the oncoming threat and gathered a secret team of heroes to stop the invasion all together! Join critically acclaimed writer Brian Michael Bendis and rising star artist Stefano Caselli (Avengers: The Initiative) as they rewind back to unveil the covert training of Nick Fury’s new Secret Warriors and they learn what it takes to make a hero! Plus, a stunning new cover from amazing artist Marko Djurdjevic!

With the Invasion at large, do Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors stand a chance? Hopefully, being trained by the greatest secret agent in the world helps! You don’t dare miss Mighty Avengers #18!

PREVIEW: Kick-Ass #4!

Marvel Comics has been gracious enough to give us a last minute peek at Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass #4 which hits comic stands tomorrow. Look for a review from a few of the robots later tonight.

PREVIEW: Wolverine #68

Marvel is continuing to bring us only the best with Wolverine #68! Old Man Logan and Hawkeye’s adventure continues and it’s now bringing them right here to Salt Lake City, Utah! That’s right!
