Not too much to say about today’s first look, except that Mr. Lodge is a decadent hypocrite. He has a totally green house in one story, and in the next he converts a 6-car garage into a den? Well, I guess he’s still being green if he doesn’t actually use a garage for cars, but still. I’m just jealous. Enjoy the previews!
BETTY & VERONICA DOUBLE DIGEST #191
“Going Green”
When Mr. Lodge introduces his environmentally friendly homes, he agrees to let the gang live in one to try it out! But how will they react to being watched 24/7? In the end, they not only show how the house saves the environment, but they get a song out of it.

If you’re like me and you’ve been sucked into True Blood, then you’ll be just as excited as I am that the Season 4 Trailer has arrived today from HBO. Admittedly, I have a pretty strong love/hate relationship with True Blood in that sometimes I enjoy it immensely and other times I want to give up because the characters are just so extreme. Despite my frustration with some of the characters on the show (mostly Tara), they always keep me coming back for more. It also leaves me wondering if there are any good (by this I mean not-so-corrupted) people living in the town of Bon Temps? (I think Hoyt is perhaps the only one.)
This season we’re going to see even more supernatural forces creep up on the little Louisiana town of Bon Temps. Necromancers arrive and it is rumored that they can perhaps control vampires since they are technically dead. Sookie has to deal with more drama and death popping up all around her, and we will soon see if she will choose Bill or Eric (or maybe Alcide the werewolf) as her next lover.
Give the trailer a watch and tune in to HBO on June 26th to see the Season Premier.
The Archie people were gracious enough to send us the solicitiations of the books they’re shipping in August. There is some interesting stuff coming down the pike. A few standouts include The Best of Archie softcover, a cheap trade with a bunch of classic stories inside with a whopping 416 pages! We also have the return of The Man for R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E. For video game fans, we see the continuation of the Sonic: Genesis storyline which continues to have awesome throwback covers. Over in Mega Man, we get the first appearance of Time Man, who previously had only shown up in the Mega Man: Powered Up game for the PSP. These things along with the usual Archie suspects means we’re going to have an Absolutely Alliterative Amazing Archie August!

In “Ball in the Hall,” Archie and Sayid search the school for the prankster behind the dangerous bouncing ball. Jughead races through a hotdog contest in “Comp-Eating” only to walk away when he’s almost at the finish line. Even though Archie wants to win, ol’ Jughead is in it for something else entirely. It’s hard to make it in the comics business, and as Chuck and Archie learn in “E-Con-Nomics,” you have to stay away from the merchandise if you hope to profit from your own. Be careful, Archie. With the arrival of his new smart phone/“best friend” in “Phone a Friend,” it might not be long before there’s no one left in Riverdale to call.

Brace for the harrowing adventure as Knuckles comes face to face with the dreaded Dark Legion and has his first encounter with Enerjak.
Funny story, a few weeks ago I was talking to someone of twitter about what would be done when Steve Rogers took back the name and costume of Captain America. I joked that Bucky would also be Captain America, but would then franchise the name out to others, much like a certain Grant Morrison-penned series over at the Distinguished Competition. It was a silly and snarky joke to make, but it seems it actually had a bit of merit, because we’re getting a book titled Captain America Corps! Granted, from the looks of these preview pages, the Captains all come from different points in the timestream,so it’s not exactly the same. Plus, Roger Stern always gets the benefit of the doubt from me. If nothing else, I want to pick this up just to see why the Watcher looks so bored!
Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Captain America Corps #1 (of 5), from legendary writer Roger Stern and artist Philippe Briones. When bedlam breaks loose in a dystopic America, the Watcher calls together the nation’s greatest team to save our nation and the world! Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, U.S.Agent, American Dream, and Commander A must band together to cut the American public loose from the malicious control of Americommand. But can the Sentinel of Libertys, led by Steve and Bucky, work with one another before it’s too late? Find out this June when Captain America Corps #1 (of 5) hits comic shops everywhere.

Archie #621 has a few things going for it. First, it’s the first issue with a retro style red band on the top. I think that’ll make the book stand out nicely on the stands. Also, we are teased with the promise of a Lost Land full of dinosaurs and Archie becoming king of said land. While the preview pages below just tease it, I’m hoping Archie gets a bump on his head, declaring himself Ar-Chee and finds himself in a love triangle with two native girls, Mira and Manee. Ah career planning, that dreaded time in every teen’s life where they have to decide where to go after high school. In this tale, it seems that Juggie is contemplating the life of a fireman. That’s all well and good, but I believe Jughead is fighting his destiny by not being a restaurateur. In Life with Archie, he’s a great cook in not one, but two possible futures! Oh well, to each his own. Along with the lead story, you get a total of 160 pages of Jughead goodness. Check out the preview, if you like what you see, your local comic shop is just a phone call away…
JUGHEAD DOUBLE DIGEST #170 “Food for Thought” and “A Matter of Taste”
In “Food for Thought,” Jughead tries to decide what he wants to do for a career. How does his decision bring together two business rivals? Finally in a “Matter of Taste” Jughead accompanies Betty and Archie to the county fair. While he was there he decides the food booths are much more fun than the games, until he finds a way to combine the two.

In this issue: Betty takes a big step to being Riverdale’s hottest librarian (just ask Reggie), and then B&V try to convince Nancy not to be a stereotype. I kid of course. The book is full of laughs and jokes, and stories. Despite the solicitation text below, I am rather sure that since this is a double digest the page count is actually 160 pages. Now, if they could just do something with that incredibly cumbersome title…
