CBS Releases Trailer For Elementary

After the success of Sherlock, the modernized take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character, CBS decided “Hey, we could do that.” We heard about it last year, snippets of casting and location. Lucy Liu would be Joan Watson and Johnny Lee Miller our Sherlock. Nothing so bad there, female Watson could be interesting, although surely CBS will make it a sexual chemistry thing. It’ll take place in Manhattan, which is where CBS lost me. Sherlock Holmes has an encyclopedic knowledge of London, it helps him solve crimes and is part of the character. So either CBS would give us an American Holmes or one transplanted. Mostly I just figured CBS wouldn’t be able to recreate the quality of the BBC version. They have a million police procedural shows, why take a beloved character and force him into a mold he doesn’t fit?

Now that you’ve seen it what do you think?  A few things really make me wonder. Firstly, Sherlock being fresh out of Rehab seems a bit odd. In the books he occasionally used drugs and even had a bit of an opium habit, have they made him a recovering heroin addict? Secondly, he doesn’t seem very confident. Shaky voice and just a bit of a frightened look. Thirdly, they seem to have directly taken his coat and scarf from the BBC version. Super nitpicky I know but it bugged me a tad. Lastly, the tattoos. I have plenty of them myself and I have no issue with them but for me they just don’t fit Sherlock. Watson being hired by Holmes’ father to be his Sober Buddy doesn’t quite fit for me either, his brother would make more sense. I know it’s only a trailer and I because of that I think I may give it at least one episode possibly two to change my mind but right now it isn’t looking so good.

Am I being overly critical? Is there things about this you liked or other things that may turn you off of this? Let me know in the comments.

TRAILER: Revolution

Revolution is a drama coming out on NBC this fall and it stars Giancarlo Esposito. For those of us in the know he is one of the best actors on Breaking Bad (if you haven’t been watching you should). This new show has some titan executive producers behind it such as J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and Eric Kripke (The creator of Supernatural). The lengthy trailer has hit the internet and clocks in at 4:20 and it looks like it’s going to be pretty fantastic. The basic premise is that suddenly all electricity around the entire world has fizzled out all at once and the story starts 15 years later after the world has now gotten used to no electricity of any kind. The pilot is directed by Jon Favreau. Here’s the trailer for anyone interested. What say you internet? Look’s like it might be pretty good.

DC Nation Continues to Bring us Amazing Original Shorts on Cartoon Network

If you haven’t been tuning in to watch DC Nation every Saturday on Cartoon Network then I am going to tell you right now that you are missing out on the best Saturday morning cartoon block to be featured on CN in years. (What is DC Nation you ask? Well, DC Nation is an exciting one-hour block of original programming and exclusive content on Cartoon Network that’s based on the DC Comics library of legendary characters, and it airs Saturday mornings at 10a/9c!) Not only do you get the stellar Young Justice and the new Green Lantern: The Animated Series, you also get to see the very creative and entertaining original shorts that are being created by different artists and writers each week.

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I was when I realized DC Nation shorts would start to feature lesser-known DC properties. My favorite addition to the mix has been the Animal Man shorts (he’s my favorite!). The ones that have aired so far have been incredible, and I honestly just wish they were longer! If you haven’t seen the ones that have aired so far here they are for your viewing pleasure – the first segment features Captain Cold – another lesser known DC villain that I’m pleasantly surprised they’re giving some attention to:

And here’s a quick preview of the Animal Man short that’s coming to us this weekend (unfortunately only featured on Facebook at this time. Sorry about that!):

Lastly, I wanted to share with you one of the newest Teen Titans shorts to air during DC Nation. I’m so happy they continued to feature these characters AND keep their original voice actors. It really makes me miss the show!

Dead or Alive 5: Lovely as Ever

Have you checked out these videos for Dead or Alive 5? If not, you should. Spoiler alert: Ayame spins around a lot. (more…)

TV SPOT: Avengers: Cap to Hulk: Smash!

With each new television spot, my excitement for the Avengers grows that much more. It’s like pain making the Hulk stronger.

This whole spot just made me happy across the board. I really do feel like Joss Whedon most likely knocked this film out of the park. Each of the Avengers was on base with their own films and Whedon is stepping in to hit a grand slam.

This spot features Captain America giving Hulk some orders and I squeed in delight.

The Avengers hits movie theatres in just under a month.

PREVIEW: Aliens: Colonial Marines

20120405-090233.jpg

Yesterday brought a plethora of new content surrounding Aliens: Colonial Marines. Hoping to overcome what I considered to be the one-sided multi-player of AVP, Gearbox has released a few multi-player and single player videos discussing the new angle. I think ditching the overpowered Predator was a good idea, and even though the multi-player looks like the standard FPS offerings, I think this will shock and surprise many, check out the video below folks!

Gamespot Preview:
This video covers what Gearbox is aiming for and also shows how much they love the Alien movies. The single player looks absolutely stellar.

IGN Multiplayer Preview:
The multiplayer looks very Left 4 Dead, instead of a Tank you get the Crusher, and the tension built by the motion detector is palpable, cannot wait.

Go Go Gadget: Google Project Glass

Today Google’s secret lab, Google[x] announced Project Glass. This a project that has been in development that implements an augmented reality and a new UI in new prototype glasses. Your phone is integrated for some features like messages and video chats.  You can also do things like look out the window and look toward the sky, with this action the temperature and weather will automatically pop up for you to see. They show alerts with subways being shut down and then will provide you a heads up walking navigation to get to your destination.

This is what they have to say on the Google+ Page:

We think technology should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.

Chances are that they won’t work as seamless as the video shows, not to mention how big of a clown you will look like without lenses. Could be interesting if integrated into prescription glasses or sunglasses.

What do you guys think? Innovation? Or a another project flop for Google?

PREVIEW: Transformers Prime – “Loose Cannon”

We here at BigShinyRobot are fortunate enough to have exclusive images from the upcoming episode of Transformers Prime airing tomorrow 03/24 at 8:30 P.M. Eastern time on The Hub!

Being a Transformers purist, I find the art style to this to be extremely fitting. Seeing the computer animation helped me feel a better connection to the bots than I have in generations after the initial series. I’m also loving the voice of Frank Welker ( Megatron) in the series. He voiced a huge portion of the cast in the original series including my favorite Soundwave.

Exclusive art is here below, be sure to tune in tomorrow and sound off below!!
