Trailer for Hulk Redux So Bad Ass it Gets it’s Own Trailer

Oh Em Gee! The  Hulk Redux – excuse me, The Incredible Hulk trailer will premier this Wednesday on MTV at 10:00 PM! The movie is to be so cool that the trailer gets it’s own trailer that is so good I got off.

Oh, who the fuck am I kidding? I will be the first to admit I’m a comic book nerd and film geek. I mean, I’m writing scathing reviews on trailers on an internet website like these assholes. However, are we so rabid and pathetic that we need trailers for our fucking trailers? Sadly, (and I’m not speaking for me, or any of the other robots on this site) the answer is yes. Our fun book loving asses have become so rabid that many of us are so eager for a taste of the movie they make they’re own, shitty, fake trailers and photoshopped images of cast members of future comic book flicks (just do a Google search for Heath Ledger Joker). I, myself, refuse to post or even direct link to them, it’s sad and pathetic. Fanboys act like they’re living in Requiem for a Dream, needing just that quick hit, hoping to score that pound of pure. Sick, sick, sick.

But, not to condemn; I am rather looking forward to the movie, I have faith in the screenwriting and acting talents of Edward Norton, regardless of underwhelming director, Louis Leterrier (of Transporter 2 fame) helming the project. And, c’mon, Tim Roth, the gut bleeding Mr. Orange of Reservoir Dogs, as The Abomination? We know he’s gonna knock it out of the park.

Dave Stevens R.I.P.

It always sucks when one of your heroes passes away. Today is one of those sucky days. Dave Stevens, creator of the Rocketeer, died today of leukemia at the age of 52. Super-sucky indeed.

I can still remember picking up Mike Grell’s “Starslayer” comic from PC Comics. “PC? There are cool books coming out from companies other that DC and Marvel?” My young mind was still trying to wrap around that concept when I got a glimpse of the backup story. The Rocketeer was different. The art was a throw-back that grew on me instantly. I loved it. I still put the 1991 movie adaptation right up there as one of my all-time favorite “comic movies.” I might just fire it up tonight and think some good thoughts for Mr. Stevens. Thanks Dave.

Assault of the Murderous Solanum Lycopersicums!

 Yes, It’s true…

An adaptation is being written to bring back the 1978 cult classic movie, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! I remember watching the cartoon as a kid, and then seeing the movies later in life. Like it, love it, or hate it, people should be excited to see this… at least in contrast to some of the other shit that get’s released into theaters.

Anime Sucks. There, I said it.

So, with movies based on anime/manga sagas coming out such as Speedracer and Dragon Ball I felt this needed to be addressed.

Anime blows. This is not without reason or support and I know there are many out there who will argue this with me, but this is one robot’s humble opinion. First, the anime that are broken up into several episodes, or “sagas”, such as the popular DBZ, Samurai X, Big O, Gundam, etc. As a young kid, I used to love watching Toonami on Cartoon Network, specifically DBZ (I know, fanboy). But as I watched episode after episode I realized that only like 1/5 of the episodes were worth watching. Come on, a whole episode of Goku ‘powering up’? Literally, 30 minutes of him floating in the air screaming with lightning around him…lame. As I began to watch other shows I noticed a pattern, they were all like this, too much feined substance, not enough actual action. It’s boring. Now, you have all the typical arguements: that these are meant for adults/young adults, all the detail is amazing, the stories are deep and insightful, you have to watch the actual Japanese versions, not the edited American ones. No they aren’t and no you don’t. Anyone who says this is grasping at straws. Now, I’m not saying that there  isn’t an occasional episode or movie that is somewhat interesting, but these are not the end-all, cutting edge, deep, insightful, and poignant works of art that people claim.

If you find this type of entertainment amusing, that’s great, enjoy it, I did for awhile and I can understand, but to you animeniacs that try to cram all this “deep meaning” bullshit down other peoples throats and treat these works as the standard that all entertainment should be held to, go to hell. It’s a cartoon. I would put the 1990’s Spider-Man cartoon up to any anime any day of the week, that was entertainment, that was good stuff.

Now they are making this stuff into live-action movies? Really? The media acts like they are taking classic masterpieces and turning them into live-action blockbusters. No, you are taking mediocre cartoons and turning them into worse live-action dribble. Speedracer is probably going to suck, same with Dragonball. I will post a formal apology if I am wrong.

“AKIRA!”

Out Today on DVD 3/11

No Country For Old Men tops the list for DVDs coming out today. Buy it. Want a review of it? Here’s one. If there was one film this year that could have beat There Will Be Blood at the Oscars it was this one. Pretty much everything about it is right on.

Other notable releases? I, Robot on Blu-ray, Fletch on HD and Sam and Max: Freelance Police on regular DVD.

Sam and Max is very interesting to me, despite the fact I’ve never seen it. Sam and Max was one of the coolest video games Lucasarts put out in the early nineties and I’m a little disappointed that we haven’t seen a newer game. How about a Sam and Max game for the Wii?

Well, anyhow, there you have it: the new DVD Tuesday column. Trust that it’ll get better as the weeks go by.

Bone at Warner Brothers

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Brothers has snatched up the rights to one of the best, most beloved comic series of all time. That’s right, it’s Jeff Smith’s Bone.

Now, most of you will remember that Nickelodeon (and Viacom) had their hooks into this at one point and Jeff Smith held the project up until it was canceled because they wanted *yikes* Britney Spears to do the music. Smart move, Mr. Smith.

My recommendation and hope? Now that Warners has sucked New Line into it’s fold, that’s where this project should go. They should do it as a live action/cgi blend a’la Lord of the Rings and get Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Films to produce.

The Bone Trilogy would be one of the greatest, most heartwarming, most epic film since the Jackson/Tolkien epic. And it would have all the weight and heart of those films, too. Seriously, the Lord of the Locusts is every bit as evil and scary as Suaron. Rockjaw is as evil and formidable a foe as Shelob (more so if you ask me). The order of Veni Yan is even cooler than the elves. The stupid, stupid Rat Creatures can be just as scary as the Nazgul. The Great Red Dragon is a great as Gandalf the Grey. And the Bones are at least as charming as the Hobbits and twice as funny. And the stakes in their world are just as high.

And the first film should end with the last frame of the fourth graphic novel.

Seriously though, I’d kill to get in on the adaptation team for this book.  Long story short, this could be a great thing for comic-book fans and fans of good movies.

And if you haven’t read Bone, and have no idea what in the hell I’m talking about, go start reading Bone….  You will not regret it.  And if you do, I’ll have to punch you in the balls, and then you’ll really regret it.

(also, here’s a link to the official Bone website.)

Harvey Dent Viral Marketing Campaign Active

Keep an eye on your cellular phones if you registered at www.ibelieveinharveydent.com. I received a automated phone call from an unknown number earlier this evening with a message from Harvey Dent saying that I should vote for him as Gotham DA. Harvey Dent Campaign

First Look at the Watchmen

Here’s a first look at the Watchmen characters. I want to see this movie, even though Zack Snyder isn’t very good. I mean, at least 300 wasn’t. Dawn of the Dead was okay.

But, aintitcool posted these up.

Everything thing I see about the Watchmen looks good, but the same thing happened with 300 and he dropped the ball with that one.

I really, really like the look of the Comedian, Rorschach and The Nite-Owl… Ozymandias looks like Chris O’Donnell in Batman and Robin… Silk Spectre looks hot.

Seeing this also makes me realize why Tom Cruise would have been the perfect Ozymandias.

Oh well. We’ll see how it turns out.

First Look at Sabertooth…

Sabertooth

Here’s your first look at Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth.  Despite Gambit being in this movie (and we all know how hard Gambit sucks) this looks like it might not be too bad.

Indiana Jones DVD Re-Release

Predictably, the powers that be (Paramount and the Great Bearded Ones) have decided to release another edition of the Indiana Jones pictures on DVD in the feverish days leading up to the release of what will undoubtedly be the greatest film of 2008. (That’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for those of you a little slow on the uptake.)

And I, for one, am glad. Even though I bought the other box set. Why? Because it was severely lacking in the special features department and this set seems to take solid steps in remedying that situation. I mean, the fourth disc in the original package had a good documentary on it, but it wasn’t as extensive as most of us would have liked.

This is good news for film nerds.

It is, however, also bad news for those of us who can’t stand the bitching of countless geeks who seem to think that Lucasfilm is putting a gun to their head and forcing them to buy a new version of their movies.
