UPDATE: Citizens for Batman!

 CFB

"Sometimes, you have to take a stand. You have to fight for respect. You have to let the entire world know you're here.

On July 8th, nobody will be able to ignore us. Gather at the above coordinates at the appointed time, and help us take a stand in support of Batman!

If you can't join us on the ground, we'll be providing a way for you to watch what goes down, live on this website.

Defend Gotham! Defend Batman!"

As reported in my previous post, the “Citizens for Batman” will host a major show of force in New York City, NY and Chicago, IL later today at 10:00PM Eastern and 9:00PM Central, respectively. Your guess is as good as mine as to what will happen at these gatherings. For those of us who don’t live in NY or IL, we can watch the goings-ons at the Citizens for Batman website. For those of you who do happen to live in either state the New York meeting will apparently take place around Thomas Paine Park and the Chicago meeting will take place on S. Upper Wacker Drive, about a block north of the Sears Tower, between W. Monroe Street and W. Adams Street. More to come...

Hellboy Countdown: 5 Days Left

I was going to an elaborate review of BPRD: The Dead for our second Hellboy countdown, and the book was very good and you still should expect to see a review of it.  Instead, I felt compelled to share with you three of my favorite panels of Hellboy–nee of any comic–that have ever been drawn.

Everything about this is perfect.  The timing, the composition, the motion across the panels, the expressions…  Seriously.  Everything about this is perfect.

So perfect, that I want this three panel brilliance on a T-shirt.

Best Dark Knight TV Spot Yet

If I don’t see this movie soon, I think I’m going to explode.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

I’m not one for remakes of classic movies, but I will say from this teaser trailer The Day the Earth Stood Still looks pretty damn cool.

Keanu Reeves isn’t the strongest of actors, but I will entertain the thought that he can, indeed hold his own if the script is tight enough and his co-stars are more than decent.

Granted this is a teaser, so, time will tell if the movie will be good or not; but at least it promises some stunning visuals.

Jeph Loeb Defends the Possibility of Live Action Robin

I like Robin.  He was one of my favorite characters when I was a kid and still, today, I love reading Robin comics.  I personally think they could make Robin work in the Christopher Nolan universe very, very well.  But there’s this preposterous internet backlash against the idea for some reason.

I’d been warming up to writing something in defense of Robin, but then I read that Jeph Loeb already did over at the MTV blog…

“It’s all about building the relationship between Bruce and Dick. Dick hates Bruce. He doesn’t understand why it is that he needs to do this and Bruce doesn’t understand why he’s doing it either because he’s not a parent. He doesn’t know how to be a parent,” Loeb said. “And together, they make each other better people. So that for me would be the next step.”

But for all the fans already crying out in horror just at the thought of it, Loeb isn’t actually talking so much about Robin as he is about Dick Grayson. In fact, the best Robin story might not actually have “Robin” at all.

“I wouldn’t let him become Robin until the third act, if that. I think that’s the other problem when you tell that story is that there’s this rush to put him in a costume by the end of the first 20 minutes and in that case I think it’s a disaster,” Loeb said. “So if you look at ‘Dark Victory’ Tim and I went nine out of twelve chapters before you even started to talk about putting him in a costume and he doesn’t put the costume on until the last chapter of that book.”

I don’t think I could have said it better.

And I don’t care what anybody says, if they did Robin in the style of Dark Victory, they would be doing it right and it would kick piles and piles of asses.

Citizens for Batman!

“CFB was founded as a network of concerned Gothamites who keep a watchful eye out for thugs, robbers and worse. These should be the targets of public scorn, not us. We are a peaceful organization that operates within the confines of the law and we always have. Don’t believe the hype; CFB is here to help Batman without hurting anyone, we’re here to clean up this town and we’re here to stay!

It’s like a bad dream. Gotham citizens are under attack. We’ve been attacked, robbed, knifed, assaulted, even murdered.”

The Dark Knight viral campaign rolls on with the group Citizens for Batman! Comicbookresources.com received a package yesterday from the organization identifying itself as Citizens for Batman. The contents of the package contained stickers, a T-shirt and keychain, along with a small note from a Brian Douglass. The letter stated as follows (click picture to view bigger):

You can visit citizensforbatman.org, where there is a countdown clock and a blog tracking the Batman’s activities. This comes on the heels of Comicbookresources.com receiving a prior package which contained a letter and a rubber Batman mask, you can view their story on the first package here.

What will this “major show of force” be? How many people will subsequently be arrested due to this? We will keep you updated as information becomes available!

UPDATED: 3 Hellboy Promos!

OK, for only being 20 seconds long, this first video made me laugh for about 3 minutes straight. You gotta love a film maker like Del Toro who can see an opportunity to poke a little fun at his product. The Chuck video is funny, but the Gladiators one didn’t do anything for me. Apparently there are more coming that will tie in with NBC shows including The Office, Law & Order, and Heroes. Hellboy & Hiro? Sign me up!

007: Quantum of Solace Trailer

I am a big fan of Bond movies and Daniel Craig was a suprisingly fresh and pleasant addition to the Bond roster. Personally, I can’t wait for the Quantum of Solace, it should be interesting considering it picks up where Casino Royale left off… not exactly a regular thing in the Bond universe.

Quantum of Solace is the 22nd Bond film and opens Nov. 7th.

UPDATE: Here they are in glorious Quicktime.
