Clone Wars Countdown: 1 Day Left

I kind of screwed this up, getting busy with my work schedule and all, but there’s a graphic novel I want to turn a lot of you on to whip up some of that frenzy for Star Wars that I know more people than just me have.

Written by Mike Kennedy and Drawn by Carlos Meglia, Star Wars: Underworld – The Yavin Vassilika is a fun, even madcap, adventure set between the events of Episode’s III and IV.  It focuses on all of your favorite characters, the Hutts, Han, Lando, Chewie and all of the Bounty Hunters, especially Boba Fett.

It’s a hell of an adventure and a swift, interesting read and the art is really, really good looking.  I don’t know how familiar you guys are with Carlos Meglia, but  you should really check out his stuff, especially if you like Humberto Ramos.  His take on the Star Wars universe is uber-stylized and really fun to look at.

So, be sure to check out this trade while you’re waiting in line for Clone Wars.

UPDATE: Catwoman Casting Rumor

There has apparently been an update since my last post about Angelina Jolie interested in being Catwoman in the next Nolan Batman Film if they write the character in.

Imdb is reporting the following:

Angelina Jolie has been asking for advice on taking the role of Catwoman from an unlikely source – porn star Tera Patrick.

The Lara Croft star is said to be keen to sign up for the part if the Catwoman character is resurrected in a future Batman sequel by Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.

Jolie has even been tipped for the role by Julie Newmar – who played the original feline villain in the 1960s Batman TV series.

And the sexy star has been discussing her possible portrayal of the character with porn star pal Patrick, who is a huge fan of the role, according to New York gossip column PageSix.

A source tells the publication, “They are friends and keep in touch via e-mail. She and Angie have a girl-talk thing going.

“After seeing reports that she’ll land the lead role, Jolie asked Patrick what she thought. Tera had such insights into the role that Jolie cracked, ‘You should do it!’ “

Now, I would like to point out that at this point, this is just a rumor that is running wild. There has yet to be any confirmation of this. Also, there is no third film yet. Period. There’s no script, there is no contract for a director, there is not even a story yet.  And while I doubt that Warner Bros. wouldn’t do a 3rd movie after The Dark Knight has surpassed the $400 Million mark to become the 3rd highest grossing domestic movie of all time,  they haven’t even began working on it… take all of these with a grain of salt.

Clone Wars Countdown: 3 Days Left

I didn’t plan on making really any of these videos, but I saw this one and realized that it was good. And to be honest, this is one of the best stop-motion animations I’ve ever seen. How they coordinated all of the camera moves over their kitchen table is honestly astounding to me.

So here it is, Boba Fett doing Flashdance.

Prince of Persia Movie

JoBlo posted a set pic on their site.  I used to play this game as a kid on my 486, but I have no real afinity towards the series.

It looks like shit.  Feel free to discuss below because I have no desire to do so.

Clone Wars Countdown: 4 Days Left

Welcome back.  4 days left until the movie event of the Fall.

I present the following Star Wars fan-film without further comment:

Clone Wars Countdown: 5 Days Left

tagandbink.jpg

In honor of Friday’s release of the first theatrical Star Wars endeavor since 2005’s stunning “Revenge of the Sith”, I’m starting a countdown of Star Wars stuff that both hard-core fans and passive fans alike can enjoy.

The first graphic novel is Kevin Rubio’s hilarious Star Wars parody “Tag and Bink are Dead”.

It’s the same idea as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, but where these side characters told the story of Hamlet from their perspective, Tag and Bink tell the Star Wars saga from theirs.  Rubio, who you may remember as the father of modern fan films with “Troops”, wrote this series with a dry wit that even the most ardent Lucas-hater will find funny.

The graphic novel contains both series’ chronicling their involvement in both the classic trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy and is certainly something to check out. I picked mine up at a Con for 5 bucks at a nick-and-dent sale, so I know you can get it cheap.

Check back tomorrow for day four of our Countdown to my most anticipated movie of the year.

TRAILER: Wonder Woman Movie

It looks really good, actually.  I mean, for a Wonder Woman cartoon movie.

Click here to check it out.

The voice cast lined up (Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Rosario Dawson, Alfred Molina and Virginia Madsen) is pretty good, too.  And it looks as though they’re going the whole Greek Mythology sort of route which was always cool and interesting stuff to me on other iterations of the Justice League characters.

It’s set to hit shelves February of next year. Which is cool.

The Dark Knight Returns Movie – Could it Happen?

TDK Returns

Hey everyone, just wanted to point you to a great article newsarama.com did that you can check out here. In the article, they discuss the realistic chances that the third installment of the new Batman franchise will be based on Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. They really explore a lot of hints and ideas in depth, it’s certainly worth the read!

HALO Movie: What’s Going On?

HaloPic

I’m sure most of you Halo fans remember a while back when there was a lot of speculation about a Halo movie; there were even some people and a studio attached to the project: FOX/UNIVERSAL, Peter Jackson, Neil Blomkamp, with the script by Garland and rewritten by DB Weiss. I’m also sure that most of you are well aware that this project is now dead, everyone previously attached has picked up and moved on to other projects.

But yesterday latinoreview.com broke the story that while the previous incarnation of a Halo Movie is dead, there is another version floating around that is very much alive, with concept art and all. The script has been written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral, Derailed, 30 Days of Night, & Australia as well as the upcoming G.I. Joe and Spy Hunter movies) and is based on the Halo novel The Fall of Reach. Now, I love the Halo games as much as the next guy, but I haven’t gone as far to read any of the Halo fiction, but here is a summary of the 2001 novel from amazon.com:

“As the bloody Human-Covenant War rages on Halo, the fate of humankind may rest with one warrior, the lone SPARTAN survivor of another legendary battle . . . the desperate, take-no-prisoners struggle that led humanity to Halo–the fall of the planet Reach. Now, brought to life for the first time, here is the full story of that glorious, doomed conflict.

While the brutal Covenant juggernaut sweeps inexorably through space, intent on wiping out humankind, only one stronghold remains–the planet Reach. Practically on Earth’s doorstep, it is the last military fortress to defy the onslaught. But the personnel here have another, higher priority: to prevent the Covenant from discovering the location of Earth.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the soldiers seem to have little chance against the Covenant, but Reach holds a closely guarded secret. It is the training ground for the very first “super soldiers.” Code-named SPARTANs, these highly advanced warriors, specially bioengineered and technologically augmented, are the best in the universe–quiet, professional, and deadly.

Now, as the ferocious Covenant attack begins, a handful of SPARTANs stand ready to wage ultimate war. They will kill, they will be destroyed, but they will never surrender. And at least one of them–the SPARTAN known as Master Chief–will live to fight another day on a mysterious and ancient, artificial world called Halo. . . .”

Latinoreview.com claims that this is legit and that they have gotten their hands on 5 pieces of concept art by conceptual artist Kasra Farahani (Wolf Man, Hancock, Spider-Man 3) that they will be debuting every Monday for the next 5 weeks (including this last Monday) so be sure to keep checking in over the next four weeks to check out more concept art!

As far as this bot’s feelings towards a Halo movie? Eh. Could be good, could suck, no one really knows. Maybe if this actually gets picked up and has a director and studio attached to it I may have feelings one way or the other, but until then this is all speculation. Check out the concept art below and click the picture for a bigger version!

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote

I’m sure most of you have seen the tragic documentary “Lost in La Mancha” which documented what was perhaps the worst time any one has had filming a movie ever.

Terry Gilliam’s production of “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” looked to be fantastic, but everything up to and including Acts of God canceled his production.

Good news for you then, it seems as though he’s been able to get the script and Johnny Depp back and cameras are supposedly set to roll sometime next year, so reports the IMDb:

“As far as we’re concerned, it’s on. When Johnny’s ready, we’re ready. We’re just talking about dates to film.

“Basically it all depends on his schedule but otherwise we’re set. It will be next year some time, before next summer anyway.”

Which is excellent news.  Seriously, I think the most heartbreaking thing about watching “Lost in La Mancha” was that I knew I wasn’t going to be able to see the movie that was to come out of it.  But now I have a renewed hope.

If you want an early look as of to what it will look like, here are the 6 minutes of the film that were already completed:
