Toy Story 3 Ken Doll to be voiced by Batman

That’s right. Michael Keaton will be voicing a Ken Doll in the upcoming Toy Story 3. IMDB had this to say:

Batman actor Michael Keaton will star in the forthcoming Toy Story movie.

Keaton will voice Barbie’s boyfriend Ken in the animated Disney film, which is slated for release in 2010.

A source tells Britain’s Daily Star newspaper, “There’s an embrace (between Barbie and Ken) but not kissing. Toy executives want to keep Barbie’s squeaky clean image.”

I Love You Phillip Morris

This comes via Jim Carrey Online. We see the first publicity still from the upcoming comedy “I Love You Phillip Morris”, a film that sees Jim Carrey go to prison and fall in love with his cellmate, Phillip Morris, played by Ewan McGregor.

I thought you guys would all want to see the picture.

UPDATE: Ghostbusters the Game Script

Proton Charging’s latest post reveals a little more of the plot for the new game. As well as ties to the original Ghostbusters 3 script. Winston has finished school and has a PHD in Engineering (this is a little bizarre since the game takes place just a few years after the second movie).

This makes you wonder what else Akroyd is salvaging from the Ghostbusters 3 script for us in the game. From what I understand, the first draft of script for the third movie was very technical. More of an emphasis on props and theories than gags. The script followed Winston, Egon and Ray on their way out as Ghostbusters. They’ve turned their small business into a franchise.

Basically Hell starts to fill up. It is represented by an alternate dimension of New York, called “Manhellton.” Hell is run by a Donald Trump style mogul named Mr. Siffler (Lou-Siffler?). Of course the boys in grey aren’t going to stand for this going down in their town. Egon creates some portal technology which they use to bust into Manhellton gangbusters style.

Although I haven’t read this script myself, I wouldn’t mind tracking down a copy to review. We should all keep in mind that this was a first draft that only Akroyd had touched. The previous films were in the hands of Akroyd, Ramis and Reitman before they were filmed. One particular scene that really caught my attention was an army of Ecto-1s crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. How cool would that be? As well as a large truck called the Ecto-50 which was used as a portable containment unit.

Newspapers Now Spreading the BatSh!t

The UK’s Telegraph is officially reporting on “claims” from “studio executives” that fucking Cher is going to play Catwoman in Nolan’s next Batman film, tentatively titled “The Caped Crusader” WTF, which is supposed to start filming in “Vancouver early next year”.

It also says, without apology, that Depp is playing the Riddler hands down.

This is madness. It does no good at all to put this stuff in print.

Update: I just checked Google, and MULTIPLE news sources are running the piece. What a crock…

Superman Gets the Reboot!

It’s official! Superman is getting the reboot! Jeff Robinov, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President did an interview with the Wall Street Journal in which he had this to say:

Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes — known as “Batman vs. Superman” — after the $215 million “Superman Returns,” which had disappointing box-office returns, didn’t please executives. “‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009,” he adds. “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.”

With “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League” stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. “Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own,” Mr. Robinov says.

Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

It’s looking like DC is attempting to make a turn around. I have always been apt to read and relate to more Marvel characters, but there are a lot of DC Universe characters I think are just fantastic. I really hope we see some success come from other movies now that they seem to have hit their stride with the Batman reboot. One quote did kind of bother me though, I actually kind of liked Superman Returns, or maybe just hated it less than most, but Robinov stated, “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.” Really? I didn’t see ANY regard to a Superman and Batman movie at all in Superman Returns. As with most things, we will just have to wait and see what DC decides to do with their expansive library of characters!

Nicolas Cage is “Kick-Ass”

Or he’ll be in “Kick-Ass” at least.

According to this Hollywood Reporter article, Nicolas Cage will be subjecting the world to another comic book movie, this time though (thank Christ) he won’t be the hero. He’s playing an ex-cop.  Two other roles were cast as well, including the titular (their word, not mine) “Kick-Ass”…

Written by Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., the Marvel Comics’ Icon imprint book centers on a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. Things change when he eventually runs into real bad guys with real weapons.

Johnson plays the dweeb and title character, while Fonseca plays the object of the teen’s infatuation who believes Dave is gay. Cage is a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon.

If this movie is half as cool as the comic, then we’re all in for a fucking treat.  Also, in case you hadn’t heard, McLovin from Superbad is the villain in the film.

No lie.

The only thing dissapointing about reading these cast reports is that I’m learning tidbits about characters that I didn’t exactly want to know about until I read the book.

Iron Man 2 Begins Production

Serious.

No lie.

I read it over at JoBlo, and then checked out the actual LA Times article they quote.

I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn’t been an formal announcement on the sequel to “Iron Man,” he’s begun developing it. “We’re working on it now,” he said, “which hasn’t been officially announced. It will be released in 2010.”

The rest of the article is an interesting read, too.  Favreau is working with Schwarzenegger to get tax incentive credits in California so he can shoot Iron Man 2 at home.

REVIEW: Clone Wars

A lot of people will instantly discard my review of this film, knowing that I have what some might call a blinding love for all things Star Wars.  That’s not exactly the case.  I can nitpick Star Wars, there’s a few things I’d have done differently, there’s some “corrections” to the Special Editions that piss me the fuck off.  But overall, I love it all.  Is that a reason to discount my opinion about anything Star Wars?  Only if you’re a particularly stupid person.

Anyhow, on to my thoughts:

I’ve been on and off about this cartoon for a while.  I’ve been excited for it for a long time, but the reviews have been pouring in and people have been taking big, smelly shits on this movie.  It had my expectations down a little bit.  I went into this film wondering what it might be like to not enjoy a Star Wars theatrical experience.

Thankfully, that didn’t happen.

This film sets a tone right at the beginning that let’s you know that it’s a kids movie.  The opening crawl is replaced with a war-film-like narrator, bringing the not-yet-able-to-read-that-quickly-audience like my son up to speed on where this occurs in the timeline and doesn’t really let up from there.  It seems as though a lot of reviewers of this movie were expecting an animated Empire Strikes Back and wrote reviews based more on their dissapointment of what the film wasn’t instead of their joy at what it was.  This is a kids movie, through and through.  And it’s done in some very smart ways.

I thought that I would be annoyed by the idea of giving Anakin a sassy young padawan (who will by the end of the TV series no doubt meet a sad and horrible fate) but this is a stroke of brilliance to rein in an age demographic that hasn’t been specifically served by a theatrical Star Wars movie since Phantom Menace.  Ahsoka is what every young Star Wars fan wants to be, a padawan learner, and she’s every bit the reckless padawan Anakin deserves.  And it’s insinuated in the film that Obi-Wan and Yoda planned this padawan purposely in order to temper Anakin into the Jedi he should have been.  I can’t imagine him losing her before the end of the Clone Wars will help his descent to the Dark Side…

But this film is a really, really accessible kids movie for all ages.  It’s not as good as a Brad Bird kids movie, but it’s certainly ahead of the curve on childrens entertainment and made me thirsty for more.  I’m quite pleased with the idea that I’ll be able to tune in to new installments on Friday’s.

This set the tone for how I imagine the series will run and the Clone Wars is an almost endless well of short stories to cover in a 20+ minute format.

Also, Jabba the Hutt’s son didn’t bother me.  There’s not much to argue with there.  I heard a lot of people were pissed off about it, but seriously, people who’d be pissed off about something that trivial is obviously a douche-bag.

The animation took a little getting used to, but by the time a third of the film had gone by, the animation seemed great.  The stylizations of the characters were really cool, the action sequences well coreographed and the Clones were absolute bad-asses.  I can already hear a lot of people groaning about how they turned the Battle Droids into clowns, but the audience I saw it with (admittedly, the median age was 11) ate it up.  The movie as a whole really entertained the kids and Star Wars fans like me and even drew applause from the harder-core Star Wars fans dressed as Boba Fett, Plo Koon and others.

It was pretty good.  Will I see it again? Definitely.  Will I see it again this weekend?  Most Definitely.

Should you see it?  If you’re the type of nerd who can appreciate kids entertainment, yes.  Bring a kid, yours, a niece or a nephew or something if you want to see it but you’re the jaded prick sort of nerd.  I guarantee you’ll like it a lot better and enjoy it a lot more watching it with and through them.

But don’t expect the animated version of Empire Strikes Back.  It doesn’t even try to move in that direction, though I would bet there will be episodes of the show that might be able to pull of that sort of mood and timbre.
