Has Rob Liefeld Seen 8 Minutes of Test Footage for an R-Rated Deadpool Film?

As of late there hasn’t been much talk of a Deadpool movie from FOX. In fact, the last I remember hearing anything about this proposed film was back around April of last year when it was rumored that Tim Miller was attached to direct (a rumor I can’t recall ever being confirmed, but according to IMDB seems to be), and there is a script floating around.

However, at the Amazing Arizona Comic Con which took place over the weekend of January 6-8, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld brought this film back into the news with this little tidbit:

They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.

They may or may not have wanted to shoot eight minutes to see how it would play. And all I can tell you, it’s close. It’s closer that it’s even been to going, or going Naaah, that’s too scary a proposition to make a R Rated Deadpool movie.

[Bleeding Cool]

So has FOX at least shot some test footage for a Deadpool movie? Sounds like a definite “maybe”. I’d imagine that Liefeld has some sort of inside information on a character he co-created and would have a stake in this film being made – and made well.

There are still a lot of questions left unanswered though. Ryan Reynolds who portrayed a bastardized version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been attached to this film since day one, but is currently working on R.I.P.D. and then may have not one, but twoGreen Lantern sequels to film (despite awful reviews and a poor box office performance), so where would he find the time to do a Deadpool movie? Also, would FOX actually be willing to do an R-Rated Marvel film? Obviously fans of the character know that the only way to do this character justice is with a violent, funny movie with an R-Rating, but would John Q Public flock to an R-Rated superhero flick when their only exposure to the character thus far has been the version in the PG-13 rated X-Men Origins film?

Personally, I want to see at least a good attempt at a Deadpool film, completely disregarding the character from the Wolverine movie, and there has been some talk that thisversion of Deadpool would have no relation to the one that appeared in the previous film*. Ryan Reynolds would make a good fit for this character, as we saw briefly in X-Men Originswhen he was just Wade Wilson, pre-transformation (and even as his turn as witty vampire hunter Hannibal King in Blade Trinity), but if his schedule is just too busy perhaps there’s an unknown actor out there who could fill the Merc-With-A-Mouth’s shoes just as well. In the interest of full disclosure, Deadpool is my favorite character in the Marvel Universe, so perhaps this is all just fanboy wishful thinking that a proper Deadpool film will ever get made.

*Fun Fact: There was an older story regarding the script to this Deadpool film in which he breaks the fourth-wall regarding X-Men Origins: Wolverine andhis displeasure of the portrayal of himself in the film. I hope this would actually make it into the film, classic fourth-wall breaking humor Deadpool is known for.

Disney XD to Have an all Marvel Programming Block

Disney have just announced that they are going to have a block of all Marvel comics programming on Disney XD starting on April 1st. The animation block, called “Marvel Universe,” will feature the Marvel animated shows. At this time they’ve only said that the upcoming “Ultimate Spider-Man” cartoon will be a part of it, but one can assume that the returning “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” will also be included. This now means that there will be full nights dedicated animation from the big two, DC announced their “DC Nation” block of programming for Cartoon Network late last year which will include Young Justice, the Green Lantern Animated Series, and a slew of short spotlighting other characters in the DC Universe. Below is the full press release from Marvel/Disney:

Disney XD will launch Marvel Universe, a dedicated Marvel programming block, with the new series “Ultimate Spider-Man” as its centerpiece, on SUNDAY, APRIL 1, it was announced today by Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California. Marvel Universe on Disney XD will be the ultimate place for fans to find exclusive Marvel content, including new animated short-form series, live-action interstitials and the series return of “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”  The block will be home to Marvel’s biggest superstars, such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and many more to introduce dynamic stories of action, adventure and heroism to a whole new generation.

Marsh said, “Iconic Marvel heroes and villains and stories with core values of accomplishment, discovery and growth make Marvel Universe a perfect complement to Disney XD and a destination for parents and kids to experience together.”

“Marvel Universe block is an incredible animated ride filled with fantastic action and adventure,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television. “The spectacular team of writers and animators capture stories with all the dynamic fun you can imagine. Disney XD is the perfect place for families and Marvel fans of all ages to come together every Sunday.”

Acting as the keystone of the Marvel Universe block, “Ultimate Spider-Man” features a teenage Peter Parker juggling the typical growing pains of high-school with the not-so-typical growing pains of being a Super Hero.  As the newest member of Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, Peter finds himself on a team with four other teenage Super Heroes.

Produced by Marvel Animation, the series’ award-winning creative team includes Joe Quesada (Marvel’s CCO), Paul Dini (“Batman: The Animated Series,” “Lost”), the creative powerhouse Man of Action Studios (creators of “Ben 10” and “Generator Rex”), comprised of lauded creators Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle; and Brian Michael Bendis (visionary behind Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comic series).

The voice cast includes Drake Bell (“Superhero,” “Drake & Josh”) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chi McBride (“Boston Public,” “Pushing Daisies”) as Nick Fury, JK Simmons (“Spider-Man”) as J. Jonah Jameson, Stan Lee (“Spider-Man”) as Stan the Janitor, Clark Gregg (“Iron Man”, “Thor,” “The Avengers”) as Agent Coulson and Steven Weber (“Wings”) as Norman Osborn.

Disney XD is a basic cable channel and multi-platform brand showcasing a compelling mix of live-action and animated programming for Kids age 6-14, hyper-targeting boys and their quest for discovery, accomplishment, sports, adventure and humor. Disney XD branded content spans television, online, mobile and VOD platforms. The programming includes series, movies and short-form, as well as sports-themed programming developed with ESPN. In the U.S., Disney XD is seen on a 24-hour, advertiser supported network that reaches over 78 million households via its basic cable and satellite affiliates. Marvel utilizes its character franchises in entertainment, licensing and publishing.  For more information visit http://www.marvel.com/

I haven’t seen any footage myself from the Ultimate Spider-Man show, but I have heard that it looks like a very fun show. However the most important bit of news, to me, from the above press release is that Clark Gregg will be playing Agent Coleson in the animated universe. This makes me very excited!

Additions to the Nerdorium

Welcome to the January edition of Additions to the Nerdorium. As you can imagine, I got a lot of pretty awesome stuff over the holiday break. This month I will be talking about two Hot Toys I picked up.

Captain America

Hot Toys: Captain America
$169.99 sideshowtoy.com

I’ve been super excited to get this bad boy. I loved the movie and couldn’t wait to add this guy to my Hot Toys shelf.

Captain America Large

PROS
• The likeness to Chris Evans is uncanny.
• Wonderful accessories: a pistol, machine gun, extra leather strap with pockets, and of course Cap’s shield.
• His suit is recreated perfectly. I can’t give enough praise to how awesome this doll looks.

CONS
• The only con I can think of is his shield. It looks awesome, but it’s some form of plastic. I was really hoping it would be metal.

Superman

Hot Toys: Christopher Reeve’s Superman
$209.99 sideshowtoy.com

While recently a lot of other companies have picked up the likeness rights of Christopher Reeve, the Hot Toys is the definitive version. The detail goes down to every pore. The particular version I purchased comes with some Kryptonite, just incase he gets out of hand.

Superman Large

PROS
• The articulation of this doll goes a notch above the rest: even the cape has articulation built in.
• It doesn’t get much better than this. Especially with the crystal base from the Fortress of Solitude.
• Lots of extra hands and a base with a transparent pole to make Superman look like he’s actually flying.

CONS
• From certain angles where the costume meets his hands can look a little funky. I realize how petty this sounds.

Between the two, I think Captain America is my pick. As awesome as the the Christopher Reeve Superman is, I’ve never been a huge Superman fan. Next month I will be covering a bunch of figures I got for the Holiday, including Vigo, the Scourge of Carpathia.

Miss Mecha’s Anime Picks of 2011

Hey there fellow anime-watching robots – Happy New Year! I hope your 2012 is filled with lots of fun adventures and great anime! Without further ado, I present to you my must-see anime picks that aired (and/or released on Blu-ray/DVD) in North America in 2011. If you haven’t checked these out, you might want to give them a chance soon – many of them will be back with more episodes in 2012:

Baka and Test – Summon the Beast (Series) – This series tries to break the mold of high school drama by adding in some innovative twists – namely, the fact that the students summon their respective knowledge as little cute avatars that battle it out for top scores (and a better class rank). The show is a crazy blend of high school comedy and drama; rpg-esque, summoning-based video game themes; and mayhem. It’s a fun series and though it falls prey to many over-used anime conventions (boys + girls = nosebleeds abound), it’s a good watch and I really enjoyed the first and second seasons. The protagonist is hilarious to watch (as he fails and fails again) and his counterparts in class F are equally amusing in their own way. Watch as Class F tries to battle their way from the bottom to the top – and attempt to earn the best classroom in the school with a private snackbar, lounge, air conditioners and laptops.

 BakatoTesttoShokanju

Season one of Baka and Test released on DVD and Blu-ray in the US in early 2011, and season two is soon to follow. You can still catch episodes on several streaming sites around the internet including Funimation’s site and Hulu.

Bunny Drop (also called Usagi Drop) (Series) -based on the beautifully written manga by Yumi Unita, this heartfelt story really stood out amongst the other series of the year (you can read my review here). When Daikichi learns that his grandfather had an illegitimate child, Rin, he ends up being the only one in the family with the heart and will to take care of her (despite being a single Tokyo salaryman with no time and absolutely no knowledge of how to raise a kindergarten aged child). The series is grounded in true-to-life locations and characters that breathe life into this well crafted story. Even little things like Daikichi’s long daily commute on the trains and the Japanese system of “Emergency Daycare/Nursery School” are addressed with a remarkable amount of accuracy and straight-forwardness. The animation is stunning and I give this series my highest marks.

 rin-and-daikichi-3

Season one was Simulcast by Crunchyroll and Anime News Network. You can probably still find Usagi Drop streaming somewhere on the net, and it should be releasing on DVD and Blu-ray soon. There’s also a live action film for those interested in seeing the story told in another medium.

Dragon Ball Z: Kai (Series) – the classic series returns with an entirely new edit and all new dubbing (for those of us watching the English version). Kai cuts out all the filler and focuses on the action of the series. As much as I love the original series, I found Kai to be really enjoyable and honestly refreshing since it allowed a whole new generation to enjoy the Dragon Ball universe in its most concise format. Also, I have to admit, it’s kind of nice to skip over some of the really unnecessary filler like Gohan wandering around the forest alone for two episodes (Was it really necessary to the story anyways? Probably not). Kai follows the manga much more closely, giving die hard fans of the original story a satisfying watch.

 Dragon_Ball_Kai_Poster_Art

The entire run of Kai aired on Nickelodeon from May 24, 2010 to December 23, 2011, and can now be found on Broadcast TV, streaming online, and on Blu-ray and DVD.

Eden of the East ( Series and two movies: 2010/2011) and Eden of the East Movie 2: Paradise Lost (2011) –

Eden of the East was arguably the breakout series of 2010/2011, and it was definitely stood out to me as one of the more original series to come out in many years. It didn’t get a whole lot of hype before it came out, but became extremely popular after its release. The concept behind the show – that a rich, anonymous individual can force 12 people to become “saviors of the world” or die by his hand – makes it one of the best series to come out in many years. Some people call it a Bourne Identity rip-off, but I say look a little closer and you’ll really enjoy this series.

 Eden_of_the_East_DVD_volume_1

Eden of the East: Complete Collection just came out on Blu-ray and DVD on December 27th, 2011.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Series/Re-imagining) – fans of the original manga should be sure to check this one out – it’s a re-telling of Fullmetal Alchemist with focus on telling Hiromu Arakawa’s story. Those who didn’t read the manga may not know that the first Fullmetal series had a lot of story added in that was quite different from the manga. I think everyone should give this series a chance because it’s just as excellent (if not more) than the first series. You can still find Brotherhood streaming around the net and it’s also available on Netflix Instant streaming.

Hetalia: Axis Powers (2010) and Hetalia: World Series (2011) – What can I say – Hetalia is one of those shows that has to be seen to be believed. What started as little shorts for cell phone subscribers turned into one of the most inexplicably popular anime around the world. Called racist by some and idiotic by others, Hetalia is one of those shows you either love or hate – and I just can’t get enough of it. I first watched the show in Japanese and then gave the English dub a chance – to my surprise I found the English dub even more hilarious and far more funny considering the English voice actors were doing their best to portray stereotypical versions of their characters (accents and all). Keep in mind, folks, that this show is insensitive to everyone…so it’s not really discriminating, right? Check out this scene from the first season:

You can find both series streaming on Hulu and Funimation’s website. It’s also available on Blu-ray and DVD. If you’re attending any anime conventions this year, you’re bound to see hundreds of Hetalia cosplayers and lots of fun meet-ups / photo shoots. Which reminds me, I’ve got to get to sewing my Hungary dress for this year’s Anime Boston!

High School of the Dead – High School of the Dead is fun zombie mayhem mashed up with anime high school antics. (You can read my review here.) The story surrounds a group of high school students who manage to escape when a zombie apocalypse comes crashing through the gates of their Fujimi campus. I can only assume that the writers have included a lot of stereotypical, high-school-drama characters in hopes of making this show somewhat comical for anyone that’s watched a lot of teen drama anime. You’ve got a badass girl who was captain of her Kendo team, a military-fanboy otaku who manages to fashion himself a nail gun to fend off zombies, a fairly average guy and girl who are set up to be the “romantic couple” right from the start, and a wide array of other characters who seem almost too much like ones we’ve seen from other series. Overall, I’d say give this one a watch if you enjoy anything zombie related, but don’t expect it to follow ” Romero zombie cannon” …it breaks the “rules” and I’m okay with that. Definitely give it a watch if you feel like you’ve seen too many high-school anime and need to see some of your favorite (or least favorite) character types fight off zombies! That aspect of the show is just plain fun!

https://youtu.be/IDcQc5NG-Ho

You can find the series streaming on both Hulu and Funimation’s website. High School of the Dead is also available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Summer Wars (Film) – Summer Wars first premiered in Japan in 2009, and was an overnight success. Since its Japanese premier, it has won several awards including the coveted 2010 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. The film is directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who is well known from his prior award-winning film “The Girl Who Leapt through Time.” The film is awesome – definitely my favorite anime feature film of 2011. I picked it up on Blu-ray and was hooked in the first ten minutes.

The story centers around mathematical genius Kenji and his geeky friend Takashi, who spend their time working as the maintenance “code monkeys” for the OZ virtual realm. Their friend Natsuki comes into the story when she asks Kenji if he wants a job, and subsequently drags him off to her home in Ueda (near Nagano) to pretend to be her fiancé. Once there, Kenji solves a mega math problem on his cell phone that frames him as a criminal hacker who brings chaos to the virtual space known as OZ. You can read the rest of my review of Summer Wars here.

27_summerwars20Summer Wars can be found on Blu-ray and DVD.

X-Men ( Series) – a fantastic series done by Madhouse Animation Studios and Marvel. Fans of X-Men and Anime alike seemed to really dig this series in 2011. I thought it was a great crossover and you can read my review here.

Marvel supporting SOPA, Fans turn against The House of Ideas

If you haven’t heard of the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, you might not spend enough time online. But recent exposure of Marvel’s support for the bill has outraged fans across the internet on major comics news sites, blogs and forums and Twitter, calling for retaliation against The House of Ideas.

I understand why Marvel would support the bill. First, and most importantly, being an owned subsidiary of The House of Mouse (Disney/ABC/ESPN, etc) they now have to toe the corporate line. Second, comics are incredibly pirated products. Just doing a search on major bit torrent sites and you can. . . .well, pretty much download most every major Marvel comic from the last 70 years and fit it on a large external hard drive. That’s pretty terrible if you think about it. And, let’s be fair- DC is pro-SOPA as well, at least inasmuch as they are a part of the larger Time Warner family of corporations.

Let me state again, for the record, that we at BSR are ANTI-piracy. We are pro-comics, and piracy is a major problem with the industry today, just as with all entertainment media. We respect the rights of creators who put their genius into delivering greatness into our hands every week, every month, and respect their rights to get paid. We even point you to some of our favorites in the realm of digital comics– one of which, I would like to point out, is about Marvel digital comics on sale. We love comics, we are anti-piracy and pro-digital distribution. Absolutely.

But, just as categorically I can state that SOPA will not help one bit. The bill will allow any person to make a claim against a website (say BigShinyRobot. . . or Google. . . or YouTube. . .or Flikr) that it is hosting copyrighted materials, and without an investigation, without a warrant, without any probable cause– just a complaint– the host ISP has to shut the ENTIRE SITE down. Take, for example, the image I’ve used to in this post. This is one of my favorite comic book covers from books I collected when I was younger. I’ve added the “This is what Wolverine does to Pirates” which makes my use of this image fall under “fair use.”  But if someone were to complain, they could– and shut down the entire site without any adjudication by any legal authority. Not only does SOPA violate basic principles of due process, it uses a nuclear bomb to strike at a gnat.

The real target, proponents say, is the plethora of sites that host torrents which contain copyrighted material. Unfortunately, a lot of these are offshore and not subject to US law, SOPA or otherwise. The bill tries to target them but in reality will do nothing to stop overseas hosting of copyrighted material, much less the ability of people to use peer-to-peer sharing to move these files.

SOPA’s roots are also questionable. The titular sponsor and proponent of the bill is Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, but the bill was, in fact, written behind closed doors by a lobbyist for the media industry. Surprise, surprise, his single biggest campaign contributor is ClearChannel, and the biggest industry to give to him is media (so much for Hollywood being run by liberals, right?) giving Smith a nice $1.3 million in his campaign warchest. . . despite as of yet having any challengers in the 2012 elections.  (As a matter of full disclosure, I REALLY hate Lamar Smith. He is behind Texas’s current gerrymandering efforts which were ruled to violate the Civil Rights Act and disenfranchise minority voters in Texas, and I am literally a hair’s breadth away from being his constituent– if I lived just a half mile west of where I do I might be in his district.)

As if this bill weren’t as dumb as it already is, we’re also ceding the next generation of internet sites, a sector America currently dominates, to developers in other countries. Youtube has stated that if SOPA were the law of the land 10 years ago, it never would have survived to become what it is today.  Imagine hosting the next generation video, social networking, or media sharing site and then have it shut down before it even has the chance to fully take off because someone uploads copywrited material to the site. This is what we are facing. No wonder huge media conglomerates like Time Warner, Comcast, and Clear Channel are for it– they can stamp out the competition by crying wolf.

So, SOPA is a terrible idea. What do we do instead? Well, as much as I dislike Lamar Smith, I also really dislike Darryl Issa of California and Jason Chaffetz of my old hometown of Provo, UT. But, they have an alternative bill, the OPEN Act, which citizens can see and make suggestions about online at http://www.keepthewebopen.com/ . It’s much better, and AOL, eBay, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Mozilla, Twitter, Yahoo, and Zynga agree: “This approach targets foreign rogue sites without inflicting collateral damage on legitimate, law-abiding U.S. Internet companies by bringing well-established international trade remedies to bear on this problem.”

As much as changing the law to target overseas rogue sites, the key to defeating piracy is simply to change the business model. Let’s talk about Napster and the RIAA. Napster was eventually shut down and changed their business model, but in the meantime people started using BearShare, Limewire, KaZaA, etc, etc, and the RIAA went about suing individual users. . . .until along came iTunes. It gave people what they wanted (mp3s) in the way they wanted to buy it (purchase a single track or an entire album). Music piracy has not stopped, but far more people use iTunes than download music illegally these days.

The same is true for pirating movies and tv shows online. Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, Amazon, iTunes– all of them are far preferable to torrenting a movie or show. And people use them. And while film piracy has not gone away, it’s hard to say that it is cutting into Hollywood profits that extensively. As we reported a few days ago about the most downloaded movies of 2011, most of them were #1 at the box office for at least some point, and most of them made over $100 million dollars.

Marvel, we get it. We understand why you have to do this. But don’t expect us to take it lying down.

As I previously recounted, I got a Nook Tablet this Christmas— largely because of their deal with Marvel Comics.  Well, with the new software update taking away my ability to root the device, and my ability taken away to load the Marvel and Comixology apps. . . .well. . . . I’m not so happy. My workaround has been to read Marvel Digital Comics online through their site, which is a little clumsy, but I’m willing to do until Marvel and B&N actually get an app ready for us.

But this is the last straw. I will GLADLY pay the subscription fee to Marvel’s all-you-can-eat digital comics releases, and I will pay for individual issues as they come out if I like them enough. But not if this is how you treat your loyal customers.

As of the end of my next billing cycle, I will no longer subscribe to Marvel Digital. I’m not saying whether or not I’m going to start pirating comics, but you can bet I’m going to go to my local public library and check them out instead.

Let me also leave you with these bits of wisdom, first from, of all places, Star Wars: “The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”

The recent success of Louis CK’s comedy special and Radiohead’s In Rainbows album, both of which allowed a download from their website on an honor system/pay what you want, show that fans will reward creators of content– But when given freely first, and the small minority of pirates be damned.

And lastly, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Marvel, you are powerful. Your fans care about you, and you have a brand loyalty that even Apple would kill for. Rescind your support for SOPA, support the OPEN alternative.

And for the rest of you loyal robots– call your Congressman and Senator and tell them NO on SOPA. (But don’t call until next Tuesday because Dec 30th and Jan 2nd are federal holidays) Believe me, I work in politics and advocacy professionally: your calls REALLY DO matter. And 2012 is an election year. With Congressional approval ratings at 9%. . . your Representative and Senator better damn well listen to you, or maybe start looking for another job is 2013.

Pinball FX2: Marvel Vengeance and Virtue

It’s been a while but Pinball FX2 released a pack of pinball tables, so if you’ve yet to try this game out this would be a good place to start. For 800 microsoft points on the Xbox of $9.99 on PS3 you can get 4 marvel tables. The pack is called Vengeance and Virtue and it contains the tables Ghost Rider, X-Men, Moon Knight and Thor. I played each table through about five times and these are my thoughts on each one.

Out of the four tables Ghost Rider was the table I initially found I was best at. The thing which came naturally to me with this table is that there are a lot of times in which you can activate the ball saver so if you happen to make a mistake you’re doing fine because it seemed to be pretty hard to lose a ball. One of the other nice things is there is a pretty easy way to get a random bonus and I’ve gotten the extra ball almost every time I’ve played. Having four balls over three really improves my overall score. The multiball is somewhat easy to get so I tend to be able to get at least one every time I play. One of the things which I must warn about though is there is a moment where Lucifer will give you an option to go for 500,000 points or 5 million points. If you choose 5 million you have to hit your shot or the ball is gone, as I’ve only been able to hit it once I always choose the lower option because it gives you a ball save in case you miss. It was a little hard to figure out how to start the missions so once you get the feel of the table make sure to go into the help and options and then rule sheet to figure it out. The other way I have been able to get as many points as I have is because it’s easy to get the bonus multipliers up and so just keep doing that, the highest I’ve gotten it up to is x15. Ghost Rider was one of the first comics I got into as a kid and I even now have a good collection of the really early Ghost Rider so this table was definitely my first choice when deciding what to play.

The X-Men table was a bit trickier for me to figure out. It’s mostly learning all of the ramp shots so it takes being calm and making the right shots. I found doing a different view then normal helped with this one and holding onto the balls by holding them in the flippers helped me to make the ramp shots. The most important part of this table in my mind is the UNITE ramp, hitting it six times allows you to add a member of the x-men to your team. Each of them have special bonuses and I found the ones which are just essential for me are Jean Grey and Nightcrawler, because with each of them you get outer lane saves x3. Those pesky outer lanes are what have been leading to the most balls out for me. As you get to know this table get to know which of the x-men correspond to which ramp, when you get that down doing the missions and multiballs tend to get a lot easier and that’s when you really start racking in the points.

In preparing to write this I decided I needed to give every table a fair shot and Moon Knight was one I didn’t expect to do very well on. I had tried it about 3-4 times and gotten very little in terms of scoring. I’ve always thought Moon Knight was a cool character but I’m not at all familiar with his story and so everyone on his table was completely new to me. Well suddenly I got into a rhythm with the table and I got closer to Wizard Mode on this one table then I ever have on any other table I’ve been on. I completed all four of the missions and I was very close to finishing all of the side missions and I even pulled off about 5 extra balls while playing the table. It was crazy, in one play through I had upped my score from a measly 20M up to just under 100M. Once you get the hang of this table is it non stop, and there are a lot of things to do. When I started this I expected to come out saying Ghost Rider was my favorite table but now unless Thor wows me, Moon Knight may be my favorite.

Finally we have Thor, and after giving it a fair shake I am baffled by this table. I had a very hard time with this table, though a friend did tell me this was his favorite table. The nice thing about this table is it’s very easy to start missions, what was really hard for me is when shooting the ball I would constantly hit something instead of a ramp and it would bounce right into the middle and I would lose the ball. The Thor vs. Loki mission was the only one I had any success with and it gave me a good amount of points so I do have a decent score, I just left it feeling a bit frustrated. It seems this will be one I’ll have to practice quite a bit before I can get.

So my personal favorite is Moon Knight. Ghost Rider comes in a close second, and then X-Men in third and Thor in fourth. It’s a good pack, it’s pretty cheap and it is hours of fun.

Also if you have not heard yet, anyone with an iphone can go to the apple store and search for Zen Pinball, if you download the app for your iphone there is one free table included on it so you can get your pinball fix in on the go.

Spider-Man XXX Winning Awards?

Who knew that pornos and comic books would go hand in hand?

Axel Braun did. I have to hand it to the guy, he knew there was a niche for it and he filled it up with a lot of sexy movies with superheroes in them.

If I were Marvel and DC and anyone else, I’d be trying to cut him an under the table deal to license him officially and take a cut of the money, because he shows no signs of stopping. I have been vocally uneasy with supporting something that seems to so blatantly infringe on the intellectual property of these companies, but he’s doing something right because they haven’t been able to touch him.

But the news today is that the Spider-Man parody has been nominated for 16 AVN (Adult Video News) Awards.

From their press release:

“I knew we had struck a chord when several famous comic book writers and artists, and even a much-celebrated mainstream director, contacted me out of the blue to tell me how much they enjoyed the adult movie parody. The word was definitely out that this was worth watching,” says Braun. “Even though I spoofed the iconic upside-down kiss from Raimi’s first movie, I wanted to stay with and spoof the comic version, and I guess that’s why adults in the comic book community responded so positively.”

The parody was launched in July of this year by Vivid Entertainment, the world’s leading adult film studio. Word about Braun’s masterful directing, his fidelity to the characters and his legendary attention to detail quickly spread through both the comic and adult industries.

“The word of mouth and Internet buzz about the parody movie have been incredible, and of course we are all thrilled with the AVN Awards recognition,” noted Braun. “I’m particularly happy, not only because Spider-Man was my favorite character as a kid, but also because I am really proud of how the movie came out, thanks to my amazing cast and crew.”

“Axel kept me posted during every step of production and he was definitely on fire with enthusiasm. Every aspect of the movie got his perfectionist eye, including a great 8-page, 4-color, XXX comic book that we packaged with each DVD,” said Marci Hirsch, VP Production for Vivid. “Axel keeps raising the bar with these parodies, proving that quality is still the key to success in the entertainment business.”

Braun credits much of the success to a wildly talented cast that included XRCO Best New Stud Xander Corvus in the title role; Vivid Girl Capri Anderson as Mary-Jane; Brooklyn Lee as The Black widow, Ash Hollywood as Gwen Stacy, and Professional MMA fighter Aaron Brink, aka Dick Delaware, in a career-defining role as the hi-voltage super-villain Electro. The supporting cast includes Sara Shevon, Tara Lynn Foxx, Lily La Beau, Seth Dickens, Tyler Knight, Michael Vegas, Peter O’Tool, James Bartholet and Award-winning director Rob Black in a hilarious, scene-stealing non-sex turn as JJ Jameson.
