REVIEW: Slime Blower Winston

Oh Matty, I have such a love/hate relationship with you. Earlier this year, Matty announced Slime Blower Winston followed by an uproar from the Ghostbuster fan base. Below is a picture of the earlier prototype.

Why the uproar? Well this Winston isn’t exactly “screen accurate”. The slime blower itself is a lot smaller than in the movie. The tank should tower over Winston’s head. The body is the same as previously released figures, where as in the movie the slime blower is attached to a full chest piece. To most fans, it felt like Matty was trying to pull a fast one and make an easy buck.

Matty did the smart thing and pushed back the release of this figure and started from scratch on the chest. Below is a photo of the final product I received.

As you can see in the photo above, this is much more movie accurate. Bigger tank. No mustache. Basically an all knew figure (as it should be) instead of a recycled body scuplt. I’m pretty sure this is my new favorite Ghostbusters figure. Great quality and highly articulated… too bad it’s sold out.

Ghostbusters 3 in 2013

The road to Ghostbusters 3 continues to be a rollercoaster ride. The latest news comes directly from Sony at the Licensing International Expo. In the Licensing Trade magazine was the following spread:

The blurb of interest reads as follows:

“…plus Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has a licensing program targeting the Ghostbusters core fan base of the relaunch of the movie franchise in 2013.”

What does this mean? Sony is still invested in making some money out of the Ghostbusters franchise. This isn’t a green light for the third movie, but it does mean they are pushing forward with it. The term “relaunch” is kind of interesting. Does this mean if Bill doesn’t hop on board they just move on with a whole new crew? Or am I looking into things too far? Sound off below!

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime DLC

Surprising everyone, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is dropping some new downloadable content for their game today. A podcast or two ago, I had reviewed this arcade title giving it some pretty unkind marks. Overall I felt let down as the game seemed to be a cash grab.

At first I wondered if I was alone in this feeling. Maybe my expectations were too high? But that would seem odd since I went in with the knowledge that this was an arcade game. And then I started reading the comments on the FaceBook fanpage regaurding this game:

The risks of Social Marketing… You are on the front lines. It’s hard to hide those black eyes when your fans give you a good right hook in front of the world wide web. Especially when it’s not just one fan, but the majority.

Hook & Ladder 8 on Closure List

A very sad day nerds. The Hook & Ladder 8 is on a list of New York fire houses up for closure. For those not privvy, this is the firehouse used for all of the exterior shots in Ghostbusters 1 and 2. The New York Daily News has the list posted up on their site.  Unless some money finds itself, it looks like this historical landmark will be shut down.

What does this mean? Will it get sold? Should I start saving my money? Maybe demolished for some shitty condos? We’ll stay tuned and let you know what happens.

Thanks to Proton Charging for breaking this news.

IDW Ghostbusters Monthly Comic Series

Ghostbusters News got a note from Tom Waltz with a teaser image:

It looks as though Dapper Dan will be doing all of the art, which is really great. We’ll make sure to post up any more information as it becomes availlable.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime Xbox Avatars

Happy day! I’m (obviously) really stoked about this. You can now purchase some Ghostbusters themed items for your Xbox Avatar. The screenshot above breaks down the pricing. I think the jumpsuit itself is set at a fair price, most costume themed Avatar items are closer to 400 points. Try it out here.

Thanks to Ghostbusters News for bringing this to our attention.

Ghostbusters News Interviews Atari

Ghostbusters News had the luck of interviewing Atari about their upcoming title Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. Out of all the wonderful input they got, I’m most excited about the Avatar Awards.

GhostbustersNews.com> X-Box fans felt a little left out with Playstation Home outfits being released a few years back. Can we expect to see any clothing/props for our 360 Avatars?

Atari> We’re working on some several items including a slimmer pet, stay puff pet and an ecto-4WD remote truck, among others.

For the rest of this interview, head on over to GhostbustersNews.com.

Hot Wheels 1/43 Elite Ecto-1

Holy crap! Hot Wheels website put up these photos of the 1/43 scale Elite Ecto-1. With how much detail they put into this little guy (a few inches bigger than most Hot Wheels), I can’t wait to see the 1/18 scale. Here is the official blurb from their site:

The Ecto-1 is the legendary vehicle that the Ghostbusters used to travel throughout the city busting ghosts. The vehicle used for the Ecto-1 was a 1959 Cadillac professional ambulance, built by the Miller-Meteor company and converted by Universal Studios. “GhostBusters” is the famous 1984 American comedy film about three eccentric New York City parapsychologists-turned-ghost exterminators. Ready to live an incredible experience thanks to this car collection?!

Murray talks Ghostbusters 3 with Howard Stern

On Monday, February 21, Bill Murray was on Howard Stern’s radio show. Of course Ghostbusters 3 came up, here’s what Bill had to say:

Howard Stern: Is it true that there is a Ghostbusters 3 and that you’re the problem and you will not sign off on this? Do you know about this?

Bill Murray: Yeah, I guess I’m the problem. Before I was an asset, [but] now I’m a problem. There’s a script somewhere [on my desk], but I haven’t read it yet.

Robin Quivers: So you have no interest?

BM: Well, I’ll get to it… I gotta get to it – I feel bad. I got a message and I think people – I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings – it’s not the foremost thing in my mind, so I don’t think about it.

You know, the studio gets excited every 10 years or so. What they’d really like to do is recreate the franchise. I remember when the new Ghostbusters was going to be Chris Rock, Chris Farley and Chris Crane… Kris Kringle… someone [laughs] – that had it together.

HS: Is that a threat to you? In other words, did they try to threaten you by saying we’re going to put together a new Ghostbusters and therefore you guys will have to go do it?

BM: It’s not a threat, it’s sort of businesslike – they’d like to keep it going. There are still kids today that watch this movie and love it, it’s still very popular. They still sell a lot of toys and everything.

So there you have it. Although it doesn’t seem as though Bill was quite as stand-offish as in the past. At the end of the interview Murray jokes that he’s going to go find that Ghostbusters 3 script. Below I’ve embedded the first part of the interview on YouTube. Thanks to GhostbustersNews.com for letting us know about this.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime

Releasing on DLC this March, the press material flood gates for this game have opened up. Let’s start with the cover, featured to the left. Nit-pickers will notice the recruit is holding the proton wand upside down and apparently it now has a gun grip. But really, who cares? Let’s start with the press release:

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime brings arcade style gameplay to the beloved franchise. Strap on your proton packs for an all new ghostbusting adventure! Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime brings paranormal activity to Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and PC Download! With 4 new playable characters and a whole new team of Ghostbusters, get ready for a fast-paced battle against the evil spirits that lurk in New York City to take down Dumazu the Destroyer!

Game Features
•12 levels of arcade-style Ghostbusting fun with an all new cast of Ghostbusters
•Immerse yourself in the fight against the paranormal – battle ghosts in NYC’s sewer tunnels, cemeteries & more
•Explore the unique powers of 3 different ghost fighting weapons
•Ride through the city in the all new ECTO-4WD as you battle evil ghosts while in transit
•Up to 4 player co-op multiplayer – combine weapon attacks with your teammates to increase the power of your attacks

It should also be noted that the original four ‘busters will be in the game. They will be featured in comic cut scenes between missions. The latest ghost outbreak is so out of control the fab four had to hire some recruits to help. These recruits are named Allan, Bridget, Samuel, and Gabriel (a woman Ghostbusters? Next thing you’ll tell me they can vote too). IGN.com described the gameplay to “Castle Crashers with proton packs”. Which excites the hell out of me. Check out IGN’s thoughts below:
