TRAILER: Doctor Who: Season 7
By Bryan Young on August 22, 2012 in Movies News TelevisionThis trailer gave me the chills. This is one of my most intense geek pleasures these days and I’ve been dying for new episodes of Doctor Who.
The series will be premiering on September 1st, a full week earlier than the September 8th some outlets were reporting. With our luck, since time is a big ball of timey-wimey, we’ll all wake up tomorrow and find that the premiere was actually last week.
Christopher Eccleston Joins Thor 2
By Bryan Young on August 2, 2012 in Comics Movies News TelevisionIt is being widely reported that Christopher Eccleston, the tenth Doctor, has been added to the cast of Thor: The Dark World as its villain.
Or a villain, anyway.
He’s playing Malekith the Accursed, a Dark Elf.
Walt Simonson (one of my favorite artist/writers on Thor) did some very cool things with his creation during his tenure. At one point, Malekith took control of the casket that was the object of power in the first Thor film and covered the Earth in a deadly frost.
The reason I say a villain, is because in the comics, Malekith struck a deal with Surtur on behalf of Loki. We know that Loki is in this film and speculation has run high that Surtur might be a part of this film. The one piece of art other than the logo I’ve seen for the film seemed to imply a lava setting… And Surtur is a giant fire monster…
In any case, I’m happy to see Christopher Eccleston do more genre work. I adored his work on Doctor Who and, as a giant Thor nerd, I’m very happy to see him cast. Malekith is a crazy character, unbalanced perhaps, and I’m sure Eccleston’s take will be incredible.

Doctor Who: New Companion Revealed
By Jeremiah Lupo on March 21, 2012 in News TelevisionIt was announced this morning that Jenna-Louise Coleman will be taking over as the new companion for the Doctor starting with this year’s Christmas special. We have found out that 6 episodes of Doctor Who will air this year, including the Christmas special, and 8 will air next year. Revealed last year that Amy (Karen Gillen) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) would be leaving the show in the next series, now we have more details on how that will come about and when the Doctor’s new friend will show up. These tweets were taken from the official Doctor Who twitter as the news Coleman’s arrival was announced this morning:
“I want to get started already” says Jenna. “I’m a huge fan of the show”. Of her favourite companion “Between Billie Piper & Karen Gillan”
“Matt Smith did my audition with me. It was fun and I felt like we were in it together” says Jenna.
Steven: “We saw a lot of brilliant actresses. But Jenna was the only person going faster than Matt – he had to keep up!”
Matt Smith had to keep up? If that is the case and they’re not blowing smoke up our asses I am definitely interested in and already ok with the new companion.
Following this picture of Jenna-Louise Coleman are details regarding Amy and Rory’s departure from the show. It is very spoilery, so don’t proceed if you don’t wanna know.
As announced via twitter Amy and Rory will leave the show in the 5th episode of the series in a final showdown with the Weeping Angels. Showrunner Steven Moffat also said “Not everyone gets out alive, and I mean it this time.” Since the original announcement that the couple would be leaving the show and it would be heartbreaking I have had one theory and I’m standing by it. I believe that Amy is going to die and leave Rory alone. One thing is for certain, it is sure to be a roller coaster of emotions on Doctor Who this year!
Biggs on Doctor Who!
By Bryan Young on March 13, 2012 in Movies News Star Wars TelevisioniMediaMonkey is reporting that Garrick Hagon will be guest starring on Doctor Who, which is currently filming in Spain. Rumours are that they’re shooting an old west episode in the same areas Sergio Leone filmed his Spaghetti Westerns.
Hagon played Biggs Darklighter in the first installment of Star Wars in 1977.
News broke of the guest stars casting via organisers of Spain’s FreakCon convention, when they wrote on their Twitter feed: ”Garrick Hagon, our guest at FreakCon, is currently shooting in Almeria, filming a series of Doctor Who.”
Though Hagon is best known for Star Wars, he also played in Tim Burton’s Batman and Richard Attenborough’s A Bridge Too Far.
To be honest, I’m just excited that we’re getting more Doctor Who. They could have cast someone as terrible as Megan Fox and Jon Voight to be in an episode and I’d still be as happy as a clam. That they’ve contracted an actor from Star Wars whose performances I happen to adore, it’s just that much better.
Doctor Who – Benedict Cumberbatch to land Masterful role?
By Jeremiah Lupo on February 28, 2012 in News TelevisionIt is being speculated that the star of the BBC’s Sherlock series and villain in the upcoming Star Trek 2 could be appearing on Doctor Who in this upcoming season, which marks the 50th anniversary of the long running show. The current showrunner for Doctor Who, also is the co-creator of the critically acclaimed Sherlock for the BBC. Cumberbatch is said to possibly be playing The Master. The Master is the arch nemesis of The Doctor, most recently played by John Simm in the Russell T. Davies era of Doctor Who. Here is the original article posted on the Express’s website:
Programme insiders say the 35-year-old actor is likely to lock horns with current Time Lord Matt Smith, 29, when the series marks its half-century next year.
Ironically Cumberbatch, who has won plaudits for his portrayal of the modern- day Sherlock in the hit BBC1 series, has often been linked with the role of the Doctor himself but has played down the prospect in the past.
Writer Steven Moffat is currently at the helm of both the Doctor Who and Sherlock shows on the BBC.
“It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” we’re told. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’.
The Master was last portrayed in the series by John Simm during former Doctor Who star David Tennant’s time in the role. The character, who is a renegade Time Lord, has often been described as the Doctor’s biggest enemy of all and has appeared in the show in various guises since 1971.
Cumberbatch has also been cast as a currently unnamed villain in the forthcoming Star Trek film.
“Benedict has often been asked about whether he would like to play the Doctor so it will be ironic if he now
ends up being The Master instead,” we’re told.

Doctor Who to Board the Enterprise in Comics Crossover!
By Tyson Huber on February 14, 2012 in Comics Movies News TelevisionThe sci-fi series I lovedgrowing up, and the sci-fi series I am currently loving are finally meeting! Could this be awesome, or will it be more akin to that awkward moment when a current girlfriend/boyfriend meets the ex? (Relationship humor? Check. This officially counts as my Valentine’s Day-themed post for the day.)
IDW has announced that this May, The Doctor will be joining forces with the crew of the Enterprise to battle the combined threat of the Borg and the Cybermen in an 8-issue mini-series called Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2, written by Scott and David Tipton and Tony Lee with artwork by JK Woodward.
While cross-overs such as this always come with cautious optimism, I think the creators are off to a good start by selecting a nemesis from each universe that are quite similar. Both the Borg and the Cybermen are all about assimilating beings into their collective, so their goals are pretty aligned. Maybe we will even see some sort of Borg/Cybermen hybrid? Generally I steer clear of cross-overs (I’m looking at you Star Trek/X-Men!), but I can’t resist at least giving this one a shot being that both of these sci-fi properties are easily among my most beloved. However, I’ll definitely be picking this series up with a reasonable level of expectation.
What do you think? Does the idea of Captain Picard and The Doctor teaming up to battle the Cybermen and Borg sound appealing to you? Or will this crash and burn like the Enterprise in Star Trek: Generations? Sound off in the comments below!
