CONVENTION SKETCH: Carter Reid – Zombie Batgirl

Convention Sketch: Carter Reid – Zombie Batgirl

Happy Halloween everyone!

We have had some pretty cool convention sketches this week and I hope you have been enjoying them as much as I have. I started off this special batch of Halloween sketches with one from The Zombie Nation’s Carter Reid and thought I would cap it off with one more from him.

This sketch comes from Nicole, who at this year’s World of Horror convention, had Carter sketch her a zombified version of Batgirl. The sketches Carter does at these conventions are, as you can see, pretty sweet; however, you don’t have to track him down at a convention and stand in line to get one for yourself. All you need to do is head on over to www.thezombienation.com and, for a measly $20, you can commission one from Carter. You can even shell out a bit more and get a zombie portrait of yourself! While your at the site, check out his web comic, The Zombie Nation, as well as other fun stuff in his store including bookmarks, posters, stickers, and decals. Hell, even sketch pads. The prices are reasonable so what are you waiting for?!

CONVENTION SKETCH: Ryan Ottley – Zombie Catwoman & Zombie Vampire

Convention Sketches: Ryan Ottley; 1) Zombie Catwoman and 2) Vampire Zombie

Today is a double dose of awesomeness from Invincible artist, Ryan Ottley. The above mentioned sketches have been in our personal collection for quite a few years. I cannot remember exactly what event we got them at, but most likely it was at a local store signing here in Utah. The first one is a zombified version of Catwoman and the second is some kind of a vampire zombie. Ryan did such an amazing job on these pieces that I know he would do one hell of a great arc on the Walking Dead comic. For our final piece in the Halloween edition of the Convention Sketches, pop in tomorrow!

CONVENTION SKETCH: Mike Mignola – Hellboy

Convention Sketch: Mike Mignola – Hellboy

At the 2012 World of Horror Convention, I had the privilege of working at the Dark Horse Comics booth along side Dark Horse editor, Scott Allie, and Mr. Hellboy himself, Mike Mignola. Both were great guys who had some wonderful stories about the comic industry. Mike was very laid back; he seemed to be enjoying the fact that he was at a convention where he could actually walk around and check things out. He told me that at most other conventions he is stuck behind a table signing autographs all day long. It was pretty amazing to sit next to him for a couple of days and talk shop.

I have been a Hellboy fan for years, so I tried hard to keep my inner fanboy in check. On the last day of the convention he drew this quick sketch of Big Red himself. Plus, get ready for Hellboy’s return this December in Hellboy in Hell. This new series marks the return of Mignola. He will be completing both story and art on his most beloved character, something which he hasn’t done since 2002’s Conqueror Worm.

CONVENTION SKETCH: Carter Reid – Zombies in Love

This is the first in a series I will be posting daily until Halloween. Enjoy!

I met local Utah artist Carter Reid at this year’s World of Horror Convention. Carter publishes the online web comic The Zombie Nation. It is about a boy named Lovecraft who gets bitten by a zombie and is living the rest of his days out during the zombpocalypse.

Earlier this year, Carter published a print edition of his online series that is available to buy at www.thezombienation.com. The book is packed full of zombie hilarity and has quite a few pages of beautifully drawn images of familiar celebrities as zombies. Michael Jackson zombie? Check. Charlie Sheen as a zombie? Oh yeah, it’s in there.

There are even some popular zombified cartoon characters as well. Carter was kind enough to draw a sketch of my wife and me as zombies. When he presented it to me, I was blown away (the wife loved it too)! Do yourself a favor and go check out Carter’s work over at www.thezombienation.com.

CONVENTION SKETCH: Tim Odland

Hey everyone! Vagatron here with another convention sketch!

This week’s sketch comes yet again, from another local Utah Graphic Artist and Illustrator Tim Odland. It is a pretty sweet picture from Free Comic Day 2011. Looks like the Creature from the black Lagoon is coming for you! If you live in Utah you may be lucky enough to pick up his comic Curse of the Raven that he did during 24 Hour Comics 2010. Also, check out his blog at timodland.blogspot.com. I’d like to thank Thomy for getting this sketch to me so I could share!

Convention Sketch: Ryan Ottley

Hey everyone! Vagatron here with another convention sketch!
This week’s sketch comes, once again, from local Utah artist Ryan Ottley. It is a wonderful picture from 2011 Wondercon depicting Poison Ivy finally getting the best of Batman! If you haven’t checked out the incredible work he does on a monthly basis for Robert Kirkman’s book, Invincible, you should do your self a favor and check it out. He also did a stint (too short of one I thought) on the first story arc of Haunt with Todd McFarlane. This guy is at the top of his game and just keeps getting better.

CONVENTION SKETCH: Daredevil

Hey Guys! Vagatron is back with another sweet convention sketch. This weeks sketch is from the wonderfully talented David Mack. You may know him from his work on his creation Kabuki. But He has done work in other comics as well. He has teamed up with Brian Michael Bendis on many projects like New Avengers, Alias and Daredevil. My wife Erin was lucky enough to get him to ink a picture of the devil himself at Wonder Con back in 2011. Enjoy! Do yourself a favor and go pick up one of his books. His art will amaze you and you will not be disappointed.

CONVENTION SKETCH: Kitty Pryde by Gabriel “Gabo” Bautista, Jr.!

Hey guys! Vagatron is back, after disappearing for a few weeks (and Arse-bot allowing this to get buried in his inbox…), with another convention sketch!

This week’s comes from artist Gabriel ‘Gabo’ Bautista Jr., who draws the web comic, Jesus Christ: In the Name of the Gun. His work has also been featured in several issues of the wonderful series, Elephantmen. This is a sketch of Kitty Pryde from the X-Men (one of my favorite X-characters) that my wife had him draw for me back at Wondercon ’11. Enjoy the awesomeness!

CONVENTION SKETCH: Ryan Ottley Vampire Joker!

Hey everyone! Vagatron here with another convention sketch!

This week’s comes from a local artist signing at Night-Flight Comics in good old Salt Lake City, Utah back in 2004. Ryan Ottley was kind enough to give us his version of The Joker as a vampire! Check out his amazing work every month on Image comics’ Invincible!

CONVENTION SKETCH: Eric Jones Zatanna

On Sundays in the past we have featured a convention sketch from our own collections from various conventions over the years. Today we are bringing that back with a sweet Zatanna sketch by artist Eric Jones from Wonder Con 2011! This particular piece comes from Vagatron’s wife’s collection, check it out!

If you have a piece of convention art you’d like us to feature, send it over to us with some details (artist, what convention it came from, year, etc.) to editor@bigshinyrobot.com!
