DiCaprio Joining Robotech Movie?

Buried in the Latino Review Star Wars casting report was the news that Leonardo DiCaprio was in talks to join the newest Star Wars movie.

That would have been amazing.

DiCaprio is an incredible talent and I’ve been hoping we could get him into the saga for a long time now.

But, according to Latino Review, he turned it down. For the live action Robotech film.

Which is just as amazing to me.

He’s at the right age that he would make a perfect Roy Focker, to be honest, I don’t think there’s anyone else on the show he could play if they were doing first generation. I will say though, I interviewed many of the Robotech guys at Comic-Con (listen to my interview with Tommy Yune here) and they said it was too early to discuss what was going on and which generation would be making it to the big screen.

They did confirm this report about who would be directing, though, and they did say that Lawrence Kasdan has worked on the screenplay, which makes me so happy it’s sick.

So what say you? Could you see DiCaprio as Roy Focker? If not, who could you see him playing?

TRAILER: Sankarea: undying love

Some people wake up every day and think “We need more shows about necrophilia and teenage Zombie dating.” I don’t seeing as I’m a rational human being who doesn’t have such desires. But the fine people over at FUNimation, not so much.

I bring you Sankarea: undying love. Think Warm Bodies but less subtle, if that is even at all remotely possible…

TRAILER: Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Wind Rises”

Miyazaki, welcome back old friend we haven’t seen anything from you since 2008 with Ponyo. Studio Ghibli’s new film “The Wind Rises” premiers in Japanese theaters today.

This time the story is based the famous Japanese book “The Wind Has Risen” by Tatsuo Hori written in 1967 and Miyazaki own adapted manga of the same story about a World War II fighter designer.

This isn’t too shabby Viz. A lot of the big Manga titles are here – One Piece, Naruto, Blue Exorcist, Rurouni Kenshin, and Black Cat. Lots of great reads, They also have Bleach.. I await your hate mail

About the only things that I think are lacking from the lunch line up are Yu Yu Hakusho and Monster. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more in the near future.

You can find all the titles here.

TRAILER: New Lupin III vs Detective Conan Teaser

A new Trailer for the Lupin III vs Detective Conan just hit. You can see the first one here. The biggest problem I had with the TV special was that Conan and Lupin didn’t really have much of a showdown they just shared an interlinking story that had both of them walking away happy, or at least happy when Conan got off that submarine.

But this time we are looking at a movie deserving of the title VS. Won’t be long before we see the wolds most unstoppable Thief clash with the worlds most crime stopping Detective. Old school Anime fans rejoice!

TREAILER: Michiko & Hatchin – English Dub

We joke here a lot on Big Shiny Robot, but I would strangle an army of Kittens just to see more of Shinichirō Watanabe’s work. Don’t look me like that. Dude made Cowboy Bebop what do you want from me?

ANIME: Manga Entertainment Releases New Free Movies

Yesterday Manga Entertainment released two new movies on their Youtube account. Redline, First Squad, and “The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye” episodes 1-24.

This nothing new as Manga has been doing this for a awhile now to help promote their company, but Redline is one of my favourite Anime films and is a true visual treat! First squad is an interesting little Anime/documentary hybrid set in World War II about the Russians and Germans using supernatural tactic squads.

And “The Third” is a show that, I now know exists… Ya I’m really only talking about this one because it came out of the same day as the others. Well played Manga Entertainment, Well played.

Anyway head on over to Manga Entertainment’s Youtube page for some free movies.

TRAILER: Tiger & Bunny: The Rising (Also WTF Rant)

So much wrong with this.. Words escape me.. Should have sent an angry guy who watches to much Anime.. Oh shit that’s me, aaaa… grab my notes here.

But no really what the hell is this. Not to long ago I did a Tiger & Bunny Video review that can be found here. But I’ll give you the jest of it. T&B is a Superhero action show with a focus on slice of life character drama. The stories were less about taking down super villains and more about the daily life of of being a hero, and what it takes to be one in a world run by sponsors and trading cards.

But this, what is going on here. Lets ignore for a second that the story given in the trailer is just contrived and lazy. “Ow crap, we built our massive city on top of an ancient evil Indian burial ground. Anybody find it funny how that hasn’t been a problem until now?” But on top of that, I’m sorry guys your world is just not equipped to handle this kind of narrative. You laid the ground work for Technology, Secret Organizations and people not being who they say they are. You even ended the show on a cliffhanger that set up more story opportunities.

So why, Why are you going with the ancient Demigod come back to destroy all mankind angle? Although you have to give that narrator credit he’s trying as hard as he can to make the name “Tiger & Bunny: The Rising” sound bad ass.

We can only hope that this is just a bad trailer but things are looking grim. I fear I’m expecting the worst. Join me as one of my favorite Anime of the last couple years go up in flames. It’s like just watching Bleach all over again.

ANIME: Neon Alley Now Available on PC/Mac

Neon Alley the subscription-based Anime channel for PS3/360 that started a little under a year ago is now joining the PC/Mac market.

San Francisco, CA, July 8, 2013 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest publisher, distributor and licensor of manga and anime in North America, has expanded the interoperability of its Neon Alley anime channel to give members seamless online web access from Mac and PC devices beginning July 5th. Mac and PC users can now enjoy 24/7 anime content with the same functionality and features that have been available to Neon Alley members on the Xbox 360® and Xbox LIVE® and the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) gaming system and the PlayStation®Network.

This is great news for me as Neon Alley has a good show lineup and I have been wanting to give them a shot, but I hate using a Console for a media center instead of a PC. It’s like everybody is learning from how badly Microsoft’s press conference went down this year. Kind of brings a tear to your eye doesn’t it?

Viz has also announced that they will be adding some new shows this month. “K” and One Piece will premiere on the 12th Naruto Shippuden: The Lost Tower on the 28th.  Also on August 11th the one I”m most excited to see Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning. (Not to be confused with Tiger & Bunny: The Rising. which I will also be talking about today.)

Head over to www.neonalley.com for more details and a free trial.
