I love listening to vinyl. I’m totally one of those guys. I remember sitting up in front of my grandmother’s record player and listening to Star Wars soundtracks and storybooks from Disney films. I use it these days to listen to a lot of Frank Sinatra and movie soundtracks. Seriously, there’s something magical about listening to Gone With the Wind and Star Wars and Lawrence of Arabia and The Third Man on vinyl.
I recently picked up a new (to me) copy of the Return of the Jedi soundtrack on vinyl and it just sounds fantastic. No, it doesn’t sound as good per se as my digital versions, but it brings a certain level of nostalgia that just can’t be discounted. Or perhaps I’m just old and like old things.
We have the classic trilogy soundtracks on vinyl and I always felt it was a shame we couldn’t get the same experience with the prequels. Whatever anyone says about them, the music is every bit as good or better than the classic trilogy soundtracks. Seriously, between Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, and Battle of the Heroes, you’ve got three of the best Star Wars pieces ever composed.
Well, I Am Shark has picked up the license and we’ll be getting the soundtrack to The Phantom Menace on vinyl soon. You can preorder it on their website and they have a number of different pressings for you to choose from.
I’m definitely going to be picking one of these up for myself and I hope they get into Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith as well.
From the press release:
This will be part one of three, continuing on the latest trilogy soundtracks, as well as I Am Shark’s new face as an independent label for Film/TV/Game soundtracks. The release will be in 2xLP format, with limited color versions coordinating with characters through out the movies.
