STAR WARS: Michael Fassbender’s Geekdom

I’m an unabashed fan of Michael Fassbender. He’s one of my favorite actors to watch these days and he’s moved higher and higher on that list. His turn in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds was my first introduction to him and I was sold.

I was fascinated to find out, after that performance, that Fassbender had all on his own performed a stage play version of Reservoir Dogs at his high school. It was an interesting bit of geek trivia.

Then, when he played Magneto, he took the character so seriously and took him to such dizzying heights, I was sure the man was a geek. He had to be. No one got into Magneto that deeply without some secret deep cred.

I found my proof not long ago.

On a press appearance for the upcoming Prometheus (where he plays an android named David) he told a radio station that he loved playing with Star Wars toys as a kid.

Monsters and Critics had the story:

He told Absolute Radio: ”Star Wars’ was really the only sci-fi sort of fascination I had as a youngster. I collected and I’ve still got the AT-AT and the Millennium Falcon and the Ewok village.

‘I suppose they are worth a bit of money. I sort of passed them on I think, and also I took them out of their box.’

I like this guy even more. And I’d like to have a beer with him. As long as it wasn’t in Germany or South America.

In an odd coincidence, those are all the same original toys I’ve got from when I was a kid. And I still love and cherish them, too. That Ewok village holds so much nostalgia I can barely stand it. Seeing it just puts a smile on my face.

Here’s hoping Fassbender gets a chance to play in more geek movies.
