“The Clone Wars” is coming to Netflix and it’s coming a lot faster than you’d think. March 7, 2014 is less than a month away.
Lucasfilm announced a deal this morning that will bring us not just thirteen episodes of the so-called “bonus content” episodes that were to comprise season six, they’re giving us the entire “Clone Wars” saga as well as the movie on Netflix, making this incredible show available to a whole new audience.
This is the first time any official “Star Wars” content has made its way to Netflix, and lets hope it’s just the beginning. This is a big deal for Netflix. It’s getting harder and harder for its competitors to characterize it as a wasteland of content that no one wants to watch and straight to video releases. They have a track record of seeking out the best of the best and this is just one more feather in their cap.

In these eagerly anticipated episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force are revealed. An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits, and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy. Fans will not only be able to watch the thrilling finale, they’ll be able to see more of Star Wars: The Clone Wars than ever before as Netflix will also stream the director’s cut of seasons one to five.
“Stars Wars is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer. “The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”
Now, the important thing to note here is how many episodes we are getting. Thirteen “lost missions.” Add to that the four episodes that Darth Maul was to have appeared in that will now be coming through Dark Horse Comics, and there’s still plenty of potential content unaccounted for.
I wonder if there’s still more we’ll be seeing, though it just won’t be via Netflix.
