Yesterday Samsung unboxed their latest piece to enhance their foothold in the Android marketplace. With mountains of hype building up to what could have been the release of the year the S4 was released to mixes of reactions from the press. One thing’s for sure though, it’s packing some serious hardware.
The Galaxy S4 will have a 5″ Super Amoled display and will be .8mm thinner and a touch narrower than it’s predecessor.. This is accomplished with an insanely narrow bezel, and bit more height from the unit. It will be released with different processor’s regionally varying between a quad-core and an octa-core. The differences could go as far as to change between carriers, my guess is the battery conscious U.S. will most likely receive a quad-core while the international models will receive the octa-core, or both. Speaking of battery it will also pack an impressive 2600 maH battery to keep it pumping your email for days on end. Backing up this monstrous processor consumers will have the choice between 16, 32, or 64 gigs of onboard memory which will be expandable through a micro sd slot. It will also pack 2 gigs of ram, a 13mp rear-facing camera, a 2mp front facing camera and be running Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.2).
Aside from the smart pause, the added features to the device seem a touch useless to the average consumer. For me a video pausing when I’m interruped will be key seeing as in my day to day I’m interrupted 4000+ times a minute, but the smart scroll and eye recognition seems to be technology that needs much more development before reaching full potential.
I can definitely say that I’m not concerned that the GS4 is constructed similarly to the other members of it’s family. Samsung is definitely keeping safe with what they know works, and what they know sells. I will however say only this, after 20 minutes with the new HTC One, it will be hard for me to see the Samsung in as good a light as it’s predecessor. We’ll let the jury decide closer to the end of April. You can read the full specs HERE.
