Game of Thrones Episodes to Be Longer This Season

If you’re like me and you have the “Rains of Castemere” on your playlist, then you’re probably as anxious for the third season of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones to premiere as I am.  The wait ends in a  little less than three months, with the follow-up to the action-packed second season airing on March 31, 2013.

And the best news?  JoBlo is reporting that the episodes will be slightly longer this year:

“There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” says showrunner D.B. Weiss “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.”

That much additional time means even more political intrigues, dragons, swordfights, murder, and frozen wasteland.  Will Arya ever have her revenge on the people on her list?  (She should enlist the aid of Beatrix Kiddo).  Will the war between the Starks and Lannisters end?  Will Daenerys ever reach her destination?  Fortunately (or unfortunately), I’ve read the books, so I have prior knowledge of what this season and future ones hold.  I think I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, don’t get too attached to anyone.  You’ve been warned.  George R.R. Martin and Joss Whedon just don’t know how to give some characters a happy ending.  If you watched season one, though, I think you’ve learned that lesson by now.

For an extra bit of fun while you watch the show, keep an eye out for the upcoming Game of Thrones beer.

Winter is coming!  (In March).
