Citizenbot’s COMIC CON Day 1, Part 1

Not enough for a full blog post, but here’s what Citizenbot is up to so far…

Let me echo at how much better organized this comic con is. I was also incredibly happy when I went to the press pass line and explained that I had a regular pass, but I did write for BigShinyRobot! but hadn’t finished my press pass application on time, but…. And she just reprinted my pass with the press label on it.  Thanks guys!

I decided to forego the madness that is Hall H and Ballroom 20 to go to some of the smaller panels.

My first one up was How to Break In to Comics the Marvel Way.  Guess what? They read the internets. If you want to get a job in comics, just start drawing and writing. Self-publish. Do a web comic. That way, if you run into someone and ask them to read your work, they can already see if you’ve got talent or not.

Next I headed just next door to the room I’m going to spend almost the rest of the day in, Room 6bcf, for Battlestar Galactica: So Say We All. Richard Hatch was here, it was all right, but a little pedestrian. With no spoilers or footage from Blood and Chrome, I was a wee disappointed. Also, without Ron Moore, it’s just not the same.

Next up was the Blizzard panel talking about swag for Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. This was really a disappointment. They made it clear up front that they would have no information about Diablo III, future WoW expansions, etc. And then they were stingy with the swag! I mean, why make it so only the first person to log on and enter the code gets the in-game digital swag? Jerks.

Next was Street Fighter x Tekken, and in the first 10 minutes I had more fun than with Blizzard. BIG NEWS for fans of street fighter: Street Fighter: The Third Strike will officially be released Aug 23 on PSN and Aug 24 for XBLU. Included in this will be online gaming and a direct to Youtube direct recording and upload, begging the question, what took the gaming industry this long? Look for the next Leeeeroy Jenkins! to be born soon.  They also had a great picture of Hello Kitty as Chun Li to hint at a possible future collaboration. And then came Street Fighter x Tekken, available to play at the Capcom booth here at SDCC. Anyway, these games look amazing and made me wish I was any good at fighting games. They also featured a hilarious video of head Street Fighter designer Yoshinori Ono vs head Tekken designer Katsuhiro Narada engaging in a series of challenges- from eating hot food, drinking Coke, arm wrestling, samurai sword fighting, hot dog eating, and so on. They also brought a parade of cosplay Poisons up on stage- 3 cute ones, and then three dudes with varying amounts of body hair and body fat. The game looks great, the panel was fun, and I’m not even that into Street Fighter or Tekken. Great job, Capcom!

Next up is Star Wars: The Old Republic (which I’ll also get a chance to play tomorrow), Clone Wars Season 4, and Beavis and Butthead, which I’ll get to individually later.

More later.
