Be Our Guest Restaurant to Offer Alcohol in Magic Kingdom

The grand opening is finally here!  After what seems like forever, the Be Our Guest restaurant will soon open in the expanded Fantasyland section of Disney’s Magic Kingdom on November 19.  This restaurant recreates the famous ballroom from Beauty and the Beast, complete with chandeliers and 18-foot-tall windows.  There’s also the Rose Gallery, where a music box of Belle and the Beast twirling in dance provides a centerpiece (available for lunch only), and the forbidden West Wing.

But perhaps even more exciting is the statement on the Disney Parks blog:

And just for dinner, select wines and beers will be offered that complement the French-inspired cuisine.

“As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine,” says Stuart McGuire, Beverage Director, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “The wines focus primarily on France’s famous wine-growing regions, including Champagne, Alsace, Loire, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux.

“We’ll also offer the leading French beer, Kronenbourg 1664,” says McGuire. “And, staying in the general region, we’ll also offer Belgian beers.”

Yes, you read that correctly.  Wine and beer will now be available in the Magic Kingdom, which has always been an alcohol-free park.  Judging from the comments on the blog, Disney fans have mixed feelings about the change.

I am all for keeping the spirit of Walt’s vision alive, but I also wouldn’t mind a glass of wine with my dinner at the Be Our Guest restaurant.  It sounds like a lot of work and creativity went into this experience, and it’s designed to be more upscale and adult-oriented than the typical eateries at the park.  Perhaps not quite on par with Victoria and Albert’s at the Grand Floridian, but certainly evoking the romance and enchantment of what I consider to be one of the best animated films ever to grace the silver screen.
