The first trailer for “The Fault in Our Stars” debuted this morning on the “Today Show”, and it’s one of the many highly anticipated films set to premiere this summer.
Based on the book by John Green, “The Fault in Our Stars” is a story of two teenagers who meet under rather dismal circumstances.
The IMDB summary says: “Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.”
Hazel Grace Lancaster is played by Shailene Woodley, and you’ll also be able to see her in “Divergent” when it opens in March. It’s also based on a very populary young adult book, so I expect we’ll see her star rise a bit higher this spring/summer, provided at least one of the films does well. Both are expected to.
Ansel Elgort is Augustus “Gus” Waters. Interestingly enough, though his acting resume is short, he is also appearing in “Divergent” this year.
A few additional cast members should be familiar faces to many of us: William Dafoe “Spider-Man,” Laura Dern “Jurassic Park,” and Sam Trammell “True Blood.”
A co-worker told me I had to read this book, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. There’s been so much hype surrounding it, and I knew going in it was going to be sad, but I wasn’t prepared to be hit in the gut by the story. It’s a quirky story with quirky characters, but it’s also very moving. I hope the film adaptation is faithful to the source material.
“The Fault in Our Stars” hits theaters June 6.
