The classic rock songs that have been showcased in the trailers and TV spots for “Guardians of the Galaxy” have perfectly fit into the vision that James Gunn is creating on the big screen. In fact, the songs have worked so well, that some fans have remade trailers for other classic movies (like “Star Wars”) using the same techniques and music as “Guardians”.
While many know that all of these songs are part of Star Lord’s mix tape he has in the movie, some may not be aware that it was based on an actual collection of songs that James Gunn handpicked and gave to Chris Pratt to prepare him for his role. Unfortunately for Pratt, he listened to them pretty much non stop while they were filming, so while we are excited for the soundtrack, he probably never wants to hear any of those songs ever again.
Interestingly, when James Gunn released the track listings for the soundtrack, he was quick to point out that the number of songs only represented a very small selection of the ones on Star Lord’s “Awesome Mix Tape Volume 1”, so it makes one wonder whether there will be multiple soundtrack releases, or if we will have to wait for “Guardians 2” to hear the rest of that awesome mix tape.
Here is what you can expect to find on the soundtrack, which releases on July 29:
1. Blue Swede – Hooked on a Feeling
2. Raspberries – Go All the Way
3. Norman Greenbaum – Spirit in the Sky
